Just figured it out (Value At Time ) wearing my here's your sign now.

He’s wrong about clipping the coin to make payments. They clipped coins to go towards making a new coin . It was a regular trick . That’s why a border line became part of manufacturing to stop clipping edges . With a border line/ring you could see if it had been tempered with that made the coin useless?

Clipping coins wasn’t for making new coins. When they had gold or silver coins often they would clip bits off, use the coin for fill payment and the bits they had clipped off, save and melt down and sell in as precious metal.

+Jimmy Mangos Furthermore, selling your grandad's angel coin? What a fool, I sold my grandads gold $5 coin, worse things I have ever done. Now I buy gold $5 coins to try and atone, but no amount of them will replace my grandfathers actual coin.

It's not the goods that are being taxed, it's the service of the auction house you're paying VAT on
