    A neat coincidence allows this to be hung on fishing line. For a human solving a cube, it would be impossible to vertically rotate the middle column - holding bold sides still while moving the middle would generally require three hands. But it's one of the first things I thought this cube might do because it's suspended in space and now "anything is possible". Then I realized that it was dangling from a fishing line connected to the middle block, making this move impossible (even if the motors could simultaneously rotate both sides at once, which might be possible and would be cool to see). However, because humans do not generally use such a maneuver to solve a cube, this isn't the end of the world.

  • @xcavinps4539

    @xcavinps4539

    2 жыл бұрын

    Actually, many cubers use the center column moves by holding the left and right sides, and using a finger to rotate the middle layer. So you don’t exactly need three hands.

    @@xcavinps4539 It's definitely not hanging by the wire, the servos clearly have the torque to make the entire cube swing. It wouldn't be staying in place like that if it was on strings. The only place a string could be attached to is the top middle panel, which is turned when the top layer rotates. Every time the top panel moves, the string is twisted, and then the whole cube should slowly rotate to follow. Plus when he sets it up in the beginning, the string would be a pain in the ass to edit out because you can see his hands move behind the area where the string would be. Not to mention his hands are focused toward the bottom, where a string would be hooked on at the top. A superconductor is the more likely solution. It's not CGI either unless the creator is an absolute genius with CGI. All the shadows and lighting is consistent, even down to the light bouncing underneath the arm. Plus, the motors running the sides of the cube hit a corner and click every now and then, which isn't something most people would account for when making a fake CGI video.

    Obviously equipped with spin servos. But does it simply reverse the mixing order from a memory stack, or does it actually use "colour" sensors and algorithm to "solve"? And is the processing handled by components inside the cube or by wireless commands from another machine?

  • @corellioncrusaderproductio4679

    @corellioncrusaderproductio4679

    2 жыл бұрын

    I'd think it's just reversing the order, that's the simplest and most obvious way to make a self-solving rubik's cube. Although in theory, it shouldn't be hard to make an AI that would solve a rubik's cube, since it's all based on patterns and getting certain squares into a particular position.

  • @pwnmeisterage

    @pwnmeisterage

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@corellioncrusaderproductio4679 You don't even need AI. People have been solving these cubes (surprisingly fast) with known algorithms since their introduction to market. It's even been mathematically proven that methodically aligning the cube segments through logical brute force often requires fewer "moves" than exactly reversing the mixing order.

  • @corellioncrusaderproductio4679

    @corellioncrusaderproductio4679

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@pwnmeisterage That's true, but the designer most likely didn't design the cube with the most efficient path in mind. The AI would be used to determine which algorithm is most efficient before beginning the solve. It's the bridge between your algorithms and the physical positions of the corners/edges/faces. without an AI, the only thing a self-solving cube could do, is reverse the order.

  • @pwnmeisterage

    @pwnmeisterage

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@corellioncrusaderproductio4679 What I was getting at is that AI is good for solving problems and for finding solutions to problems which seem too complex to solve. But Rubik's cubes are an old problem with an old solution, we already know the (mathematically proven) quickest and best ways to solve them, we can program those instructions ourselves, we don't need to implement and educate an AI which can learn other answers.

  • @corellioncrusaderproductio4679

    @corellioncrusaderproductio4679

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@pwnmeisterage Well, the whole idea of a self-solving rubik's cube is just a novelty. anyone could solve it with a little bit of a research online and some patience. This creation isn't doing anything that a human couldn't do themselves, but it's more "what if a rubik's cube solved itself?" If you program those algorithms into the rubik's cube, is it not an AI that determines which algorithm to use based on the input (the location of each part of the cube)?
