    Nice version of this suspension system. It's well-balanced, and the addition of the white collar on the shaft stops any wobble at slow speed. It probably adds a little friction too, but not much.

    Nice. I built a similar one years ago, but the reed switch didn't last long at high rpms. A hall effect sensor might be a good alternative.

    I think Lidmotor usually included an LED or a diode allowing for the transients (flyback) voltage spikes to be sent back to the PSU instead of possibly causing a small arc at the reed switch. Maybe the reed switch your using has a built in protection diode? Excellent video, really enjoying your content as it comes out.

    what happens to the reed switch without protection? I usually don't take it seriously to include a flyback diode.

    @@davemwangi05 If you drive the ciruit with a high enough voltage it will likely eventually spot weld the reed switch shut (I know this from doing so and having it happen to myself). If you drive with a low input voltage your should be able to get away without damaging the reed switch.... But, best practice in this case, is putting in the flyback diode. And if you want to play around with raising the input voltage relatively higher (say 5V or more) then the diode is a really good idea. You can use any diode (other than certain spec zener), even LEDs work. LEDs are particularly cool because you can see the flyback pulse as its created which is kinda cool (in my opinion anyhow). Peace

    Hi! Could you help me out with something I have been wondering about. 1. When reading about electric vehicles people always talk about the amps and not the voltage. Like this a x amp battery. The more amps the better they say. I really don't understand that. Why not talk about Watt hours? 2. This is about energy efficiency and it is a bit complicated for me to explain but I have this electric bike and a 15 Amp controller. I could either increase the amp or the voltage to make the bike go faster but what would be the best to do to make it most energy effective meaning saving the most battery power? Appreciate your help with this.

  • @heavycurrent7462

    @heavycurrent7462

    1. The amp in that sense is directly proportional to the torque the vehicle can deliver with that battery. Higher voltage can also increase the power output, but usually the motor has a standard voltage to operate on, so increasing the voltage for more power is not very suitable. 2. Both is the same. The power dissipated by the battery in the end, is the product of Voltage and Current. So if either one remains the same while the other is increased, power consumption is equal for both options.

    @@heavycurrent7462 For the motor do you mean standard voltage as in continuous power at a certain voltage without any damage occurring on the motor? For the crystalyte hub motor I have on my ebike it is set for 2000 W continuous drive. But for batteries some people speak only amps as if voltage wasn't important. However for electric bike we have 24 Volt , 36 Volt, 48 Volt and 72 Volt. Now for question 2 would you say that it doesn't matter if I change the voltage or the amps when trying to be as energy efficient as possible?

    This is caused by the rotor magnet attraction to the reed switch itself. The reeds themselves must be a ferromagnetic material in order to work. And the leads are usually a ferromagnetic metal too.

  • @maxprophet2401

    @maxprophet2401

    There isn't enough magnetic material in the reed switch to instantly stop the rotor like that. The rotor magnet did close the reed switch, you can see it bend upward slightly as the ammeter on the power supply climbs from zero. I didn't notice the power supply was even on at first and I actually thought it had been edited. For the most part I agree with ya and I'm glad you said something because I'd missed some things.
