Floating islands added to Lake LaVerne to improve water quality
The first of 3 vegetated floating islands was installed on Lake LaVerne on May 2nd. A team of faculty and students from the College of Design built the islands, and outfitted them with native grasses and flowers. The islands are designed to improve water quality by using plants to absorb nitrogen, phosphorous and other contaminants from the water. Water samples will be taken throughout the year to measure the impact the islands have on the lake.

I do remember watching the island being put up two months ago on compass about , and not thinking much of it . I must say, now, that this is really brilliant stuff. Also good job on the proper thinking.
