Flite Test - Control Horns - FLITE TIP
This week the Joshes talk about trumpets and fishing? Horns and rods are mentioned but what they're referring to is control horns, and control rods. Josh Bixler shows a couple different styles of control horns, tips and techniques on how to install them properly, and explains the importance of proper alignment of your horns and rods. Josh Scott contributes this week with a musical accompaniment, as well as an excellent demonstration of a few control rod bend examples. Chad, we have some good news, and some bad news for you. The good news is you don't have to do dishes tonight...

this is by far the best explanation for control linkage geometry i have heard someone who knows their stuff will always explain things more simply than an armature pretending to be smart
@tbvdb The Link is in the description.
Answered my micro control horn questions, thank you guys!
Nice guys, keep coming the good info, you both are kindly people!
Popsicle sticks work awesome for control horns as well. Awesome video guys!
didn't knew the 2nd Z bend before so thanks for that, really easy for some of my planes!
I love these two guys
I just cut a small popsicle stick at an angle near the end and drill a hole and it works great

Yeah popsical sticks would work graet

@@Stryxxxx Don't make fun of him, he may not have the dollar fifty to buy a professional made one. Although when the drilled hole wears and he loses a plane to flutter, that would cost hundreds of control horns!!!

thanks this vid helped a lot!
HAHA I can tell Josh B paint for a living, My fingers look the same right now :). Great tip, keep em coming. Thanks to Josh S for the large easy to see bends! Jon
Good tip guy's...Thanks....
That's badass nails Josh!!

Andrés Arcos I wonder if he eats with those!?
I just received my Flight test/HK 'No you cannot fly this plane' T-shirt today, and ironically it was added to my first RC car order, the beetle, the exact same as the one in the background of this video, I got it to do some FPV when the winds are too high for flying and some night driving ;-)
good video !!!
thanks you guys for watching :D 5:20
@BMSWEB Same!
Would you recommend these plastic long control horns on something like the famout FT Mini Arrow?
Great tips that plastic horn always alignment problems
Could you do some plans on how to make them?
Perhaps a word about a heat shrink linkage for foamies using carbon rod? Probably one of the simplest and slop free linkages available using no special hardware.
@flitetest Do you guys have a review on the F-86 Sabre in the intro? I have looked but can never find it. It's also in the differential video as an animation.
I'm not sure about what make/model of RC plane it is, but the fuselage appears to be that of a model of an F-86 Sabre.
You guys haven't reviewed a Hobby King plane in a while. If you do another HK review, please fly the large Mosquito. I've been thinking about buying that one. Thanks.
Hey I have a question. I bought a plane and started building it but I wore out the screw head for the control horns so instead of screwing the control horns in can I just use glue? My plane is a P51 by FMS.
I'm subscribed but your videos don't seem to come up under my subscriptions of new videos. I only really get the notification through FB!
Do u know why they have the stryker 180 is set up for maximum throws out of the box and why they recommend u start of like that in the manual. It flys great but Im confused why would factory settings be set up for extreme acrobatics.
YOU HAVE TO DO A REIVEW ON THE HK HOVERJET IN THE BACKGROUND!!!!!
If someone is looking to buy what Josh called a "thumb drill" go to amazon.com (or wherever) and search "pin vise" - that's what its really called :)
Will you be doing a funbat tutorial how to build at anypoint ??????????????????
9 years later. Wow
I died at the end.
Is Josh B a mechanic, he has mechanic hands. Good info guys.
I want to change the control rod position on my little umx champ - those little horns are delicate and stuck in foam that could easily be damaged- so do you use the pliers to bend the rod or to bend the plastic horn ? or both ?

I feel you, they bend so easily. If you find a good solution would you mind sharing with me? I'll do same if I run across anything,

Its 4 months later and I could not get help with the subject -- so by experience - what is working for me is to use my fingers and bend the horn a little with my fingers and at the same time bend the control rod a little - being patient and keep working at it and so far - it goes in sooner or later - nothing broken or damaged as of now most recent accomplishment was to replace a broken control rod getting the rod out of the hole on the servo on the computer board was hard for me - I'm sure it gets easier with experience
@chiavernwei some control horns dont even have backs i would just either take a chance and glue it or go spend 2 dollars on new ones :)
nice idea
Can you post a link to buy the horns?
Good info, but you need to drop the “comic sidekick” routine!
i need help figuring out how to hook the servos to the receiver. this is my first time trying to build something an i own 3d printers so ive printed all the parts an i just built a simple foam board plane not really that interested in seeing this fly but trying to get everything on something an working like it should then im going to go an either print a full plane or a mixture of printed an foam parts. the foam board i have to work with is 5mm thick so not the thickest stuff and for the electronics i have cheap 30amp esc from amazon and a 2200kv brushless motor an the atm a total of 6 sg90 servos. the transmitter an receiver are also cheap from amazon but had good reviews so i tried it, but its the flysky fs-i6x. ive never had the oppertunity to be around rc planes so i have no knownledge what so ever of how they are suppose to work as far as how the controls on the controller are suppose to work, ive had the motor work with the left throttle stick an ive gotten a servo to work for each direction of the right stick, but my confusion is when u pull back on the right stick i imagined both elevators being pulled up to make the plane climb but with what im working with when pulling the right stick back only one servo moves so im not sure if im suppose to make both flaps work together an at different times with it being an intuitive feel on the controller, i can do it right not but it takes me pushing the right stick up an to the right to get both sides to do the same thing. i hope im explaining this in a way ppl understands. i know i got something wrong an ive not been able to find alot of info on building something from scratch, its always kits an they never really go through how to connect the servos to the receiver so they work correctly the transmitter

I basically watched this video
You forgot about the hole in the horn for the control wire...the control wire should be a snug fit in the hole. Do not drill an oversized hole for the control wire.
I miss the old intro too much
what is the reall job of josh blixer? i see his hands are allways black
