    To help anyone with the 'How to draw' book by Johanna - she has a series on KZread called Inky Art School where she goes through the book and shows you how to draw the elements in the book, which is wonderful if you need an extra visual. I think it's 10 videos. Hope that helps.

    Hi Lisa! Thank you for the flip thru. I am trying to make a point of getting at least one book by each illustrator that seems to appeal to me so these flip thrus are very helpful. Being on a budget they make it very easy to figure out which may be your favorite. As always take care and may God bless you.

    Secret Garden and Enchanted Forest were my first adult coloring books I owned. Secret Garden was done in markers and Enchanted Forest was in colored pencils. Back then I did not know who to properly color just the basics and boy does it show. I cringe every time I take them out. I am thinking of buying both of them again and actually put in effort and not half-a** it like I used to do.

    When I first started my coloring book collection, I thought I was just going to have a couple dozen books at the most. I know - silly me; I should’ve known better. But I started taking all mine to OfficeMax and had them spiral bound. I believe most of the “office” type stores do this. And it’s not too expensive. Of course, I quickly gave up on that as my collection grew. I knew I would never be able to keep up. Lol. 🤣😂😅

    What do you recommend to use for colouring apart from coloured pencils. Any particular brand of fineliners? So they don't bleed and don't destroy the next page? Ta.

  • @LisasColoringCorner

    @LisasColoringCorner

    Well of course pencils work the best but any waterbased markers would work in a couple sided coloring book, even Crayola Supertips. Fineliners work. There are also a ton of inexpensive dual tip waterbased markers with a brush tip on one end and a fineliner on the other end. As far as fineliners, I really like the Arteza Inkonics as they’re my favorite and I teach for them the majority of the time. I have Arteza affiliate links in the description of the video if you’d like to use that.

    Could you please recommend which type and brand of fineliners, pastels, and gel pens you mentioned using while you were going thru the lost ocean book? I have been looking into pastels and I was going to get primsacolor art stix to do the backgrounds but they have been discontinued and nothing is really like the art stix they had. Woodless pencils aren't the same so now I'm trying to find pastels to use instead for backgrounds. I really like pan pastels but they are expensive and doubt they could be used in such small spaces anyway such as her books? If you did use pan pastels what tools did you use to get it on the background so nice and beautifully? Chalk pastels I really don't like to much cause of the mess and dust. So it would be really helpful and appreciated so very much if you could tell me the brand and type of pastels you used in the lost ocean book? It's looks really nice and I like the colors as well. I've never owned fineliners or gel pens either so if you could recommend some brands that would be great. Thank you so much. I also don't like layering too much but enjoy blending and shading with colored pencils. Your work looks flawless. Which type blender do you use? Do you just blend with pencils or do you use a blender marker or pencil? If I had to guess it looks like you used a blender marker to blend in the pics you did in the jungle book? I just found your channel and really am enjoying it! Sorry for all the questions but I started coloring again after losing all my art supplies, crafts and books 5 years ago so now I will be starting over and purchasing alot of supply's so any help with the above questions I would beyond grateful. On a side note if anyone has found a suitable replacement to the primsacolor art stix that are discontinued please let me know. Thanks!

    Oh boy, that was a long time ago. LOL. I always use Pan Pastels now and they do have some tools that work good in smaller areas. They are called Sofft tools made specifically for the Pan Pastels. Also, there are still Prismacolor Art Stix: geni.us/nmHmsN A cheaper brand that I know a lot of people use are the Myungo pastel sticks: geni.us/8892P Another thing you can use for smaller areas are the fine tipped qtips: geni.us/BEyPx For backgrounds when using the Myungo or other stick pastels, you can just scrape some color off if doing a large area like a background and rub it in. If doing a smaller area, you can use a fine tipped qtip and rub it directly on the pastel stick. As far as gel pens, there are tons of gel pens out there. I used to use all the different types of gel pens like the pastel, neon, etc., gel pens but now I only use glitter gel pens. If you need more specifics, let me know. Regarding fineliners, my favorites are still the Arteza Inkonics fineliners: geni.us/d2izRtb The 120 set from Ohuhu is also great: geni.us/zyXc And they come in their own really nice case. I hope this all helps you out. If you need anything additional, just let me know.

    @@LisasColoringCorner oh thank you so very much for all the links and very useful information. I ended up purchasing the mungyo (sp?) Soft pastels and the nu pastels..which are different from the art stix but still work just as nicely. I'm really glad you replied because I've been looking at silicone color shaper brushes to apply, smudge and blend the nu pastels and they are so expensive and the lack of description of sizes of these brushes leaves me in a bit of quandry on which size to order. So now I'll just take your advice and use those cu tips which I already have. And look at the soft tools since they are inexpensive and will get the job done as well. Also I got the ohuhu markers 60 set that have fineliners on one end and they are nice. On the other hand I ended up also getting a 20 pack of the steadler triplus fineliners and they are fabulous on cardstock. However on johannas type of paper in her books they don't work so great as the paper doesn't absorb the liner fast enough and I end up with little puddles and then it's hard to shade with them cause they are so juicy and since the paper doesn't absorb the ink to well the excess ink just ends up sitting on top of the paper. And then because of that if you try to shade with them it just ends up looking really dark if that makes sense. But on cardstock they work absolutely amazing and turn out beautiful and I have absolutely none of these issues. So now I want to take my favorite pages and scan them and print them out on some nice thick paper. It's just not enjoyable coloring with those fineliners on the regular paper her books come on. Some of the ink floats on the paper instead of absorbing it if that makes sense (kinda like watercolors do). But the colored pencils, pastels, and even a little bit of watercolor works just fine in her books if you have quality paints and just use a few drops of water to activate the watercolor pans. Anyway do you prefer arteza fineliners to the steadlers and do you think they would work much better in her books as opposed to the issue I'm having with the steadler fineliners? Also would there be a easier way of transferring her pages onto cardstock like with some type of transfer paper like they do with graphite pencils? It's going to be a real pain in the butt to go to Kinko's and scan copy and print out all my favorite pages. And ofc I want 3 copies of some of the pages cause I have a few different ways I want to do those specific pages with different medias and color palettes and blends etc. I haven't got any gel pens yet but wanted to order some next week. Could you please recommend the brand you now use. I really don't want to research gel pens for hours like I've had to do with some other art supplys. Mainly researching the tools needed to use the art supplies or trying to find color swatches of different products like gelatos for example. Those are also very nice for doing backgrounds. I've looked at some gel pens and the types and amounts they have is overwhelming. What a age we live in too have so many options.. I just want some nice gel pens that go on smoothly and are a pleasure to use. Kind of like the Sakura jelly roll pens. But not as expensive unless it's a small set..anyway sorry for talking your ear off. I just love talking to other colorists about art supplies and coloring in general since my husband and friends aren't into it. Also I have you to thank for introducing me to diamond paintings! And thank you for the great tips about them for beginners. Even my husband is enjoying doing them! Can I ask is there any other way to flatten them out besides ironing them? I don't own a iron and one of the inserts or instructions said not to use a iron on them. Im having a hard time trying to uncurl them. Also with the pastels do you use a fixative as I've heard one or two people say it messed up there art work somehow? Any whoo thanks so much for all your help and guidance. I haven't had much time to watch yt lately but am glad you gave me the answers I needed. I kid you not I've been looking at color shaper brushes online for days now trying to find out the correct sizes needed for my purposes. Thanks again.
