I find the flip locks breaking on me often.

Twist locks are very simple and fail proof.

in my experiece, flip locks are faster

Twice I have had tripods with lever/flip locks loosen up and slip on me. Once was yesterday, when it was loading with a crossbar with a 5DS R and a Macbook Pro mounted on. Even my older, heavy (and heavy duty) Manfrotto on which one lock has come loose will slip well below the weight limit, even after tightening the bolt back up. The tripod will just slowly drift down that leg until it falls if I am not paying attention. I have never had this problem with twist locks, even if they are a little slower sometimes. Have you found this to be the case, or is it simply the models I have chosen? Are twist locks sturdier, or does it just seem that way to me?

Vinny Le Pes My case is completely the opposite of yours . Never any problems with Flip locks and twist locks getting loose, having to double check all of them every time...

Tony Fabris interesting, I wonder if maybe all flip or twist locks aren’t created equal. Like perhaps they can both be good or suck. Maybe I had a less reliable design...food for thought! Now I want to go to the local store and manhandle all the tripods 😏
