Robert you are the poster person immigrant of America. You see abundant opportunity and reach for it. No welfare No medical insurance No handouts . Your parents had their pride and fortitude to realize this country gave them Freedom and a future that Cuba sadly didn’t. Bravo to them and you. You just gave such an Inspirational story for all of us to reflect on. God Bless America. Merry Christmas

Don't be ignorant Cubans received a lots of help once in U.S. from the gov and from other sources. Every single immigrant get some kind of freebee even those homesteaders whom the U.S. gov gave a big chunk of land seized from the indians back in the westward immigration...and so on

@@franciscogil6798 I'm not Cuban, but I grew up in Miami, and frankly you don't know what you're talking about. I was in elementary school in the 1960s and we went from no Cuban schoolmates to lots of them as the families came over from Cuba. Typically, the parents of my Cuban schoolmates started small businesses in Miami. They were very successful and I never met a Miami Cuban on welfare back then.

@Fearless Of Freedom for beginners the fact that Cubans just for stepping into US got asylum (before Obama tried to normalize relations with the island ) That alone us a big help..now try that and you get thrown into a private detention facility. There are more examples but I rest my case

Grew up in NJ and my desire to thank this great country and love for travel saw me enlist in the USAF. Got to travel the world several times over. Now, I get in my RV every time I get an opportunity. Cubans have a reputation of being politically conservative after experiencing the Castro years, but he replaced the other end of the political extreme in the dictator Batista. Bottom line, both ends of the political spectrum are mirror images in the way they control and utilize power over their people.

You have definitely found your chosen path for life. Once again Robert, yet another excellent video!

Robert thank you for this very informative video, when I saw one of your videos with a package of La Llave coffee, I figured you were Cuban. It's great that you were able to have so many photos of you and your parents in Cuba. I'm also Cuban. My parents put me on a plane (Pan Am) at the age of 9 on July 25, 1961 to go to Miami and my aunt and uncle were there waiting for me. My parents were not allowed to leave at that time, but later individually were able to migrate to Miami. The United States is the best country, and I am thankful that we were welcomed here. I now live with my wife in the Silicon Valley area of California. I'm glad I found your channel during the "Shelter in Place" for the virus and I have enjoyed so far every video I have watched. We might buy a small used motorhome to travel and take our grand children on our trips. Keep doing what you have been doing, because I think all the viewers really enjoy your outings. Perhaps someday you might come back to California and we could meet. Alberto.

Hey, Robert, great to know you. I came to America in 1977, from Bucharest, Romania. The first video I watched was of your trip from Florida to California. Having put my wife and our two kids (then) on the plane to California, in Fort Lauderdale, I drove back to Hollywood to check out of our rented apartment and hit the road, following the same route you drove on. The first day I drove all the way to New Orleans, where I arrived at around 2 am. What a memorable trip it was! My Plymouth Fury 2 was just fine. Keep traveling, Robert. You remind me of what's best in the US of A. I'm sure you'll agree with me: it's the best country in the world! Thank you for bringing back all these happy memories!

Robert I am watching you for years. I wanted to say my son who will be 30 is alive today because of his father's accent and how he would say my name lol. My son's father in high school (we went to catholic high school) I remember they had no Christmas trees up and I thought that was soo weird. There are many Cuban areas in NJ. My son's abuelo who passed recently was a prisoner in Cuba with his brother until they were able to pay (bribed i guess) to have them released and they went to Spain for a few years before they came here in the very early 70's. My son's abuela said she would NEVER no go back. I was hoping maybe she would take my son. They were from Placetas, Cuba. I am so glad you are an American now and taking us along as you discover our country! I look forward to EVERY video. God Bless!

You see America in a way that sadly a lot of natural born citizens don't and THAT is a HUGE testament to them! I feel that they will have to experience what you and your family had to face in a communist controlled government before they can appreciate the freedoms already available for them here. One of your more impressive qualities is your patience with impatient people. God bless you and keep you safe in your travels. Welcome to the home of the brave and land of the FREE!

I followed you when you first started out on KZread. At that time your travels were mainly in the eastern part of the US. I had traveled a lot in three different RVs in the US and internationally on land tours and cruises. When I first started watching you I was getting the itch to hit the road again. I converted a Toyota Sienna in 2014 and have been into my own travels since then. I recently discovered you again when I saw your Wild West tour on KZread. I really enjoyed that one because I had followed a very similar route in my Sienna several years ago. So I went back to your site to see where you had gone since I last followed you, and I found your recent North Dakota video. I grew up ND in the forties and fifties and had been to many of the places you went, but you opened my eyes to what had been going on since I left ND in 1957, for example, the Enchanted Highway. Now ND is back on list travel list. I'm glad you did this life story video. I had suspected that's how you got to Florida, and now I see how you've succeeded since you came to the US. It looks like I'm a subscriber at least until I'm caught up on your travel videos. Good luck in your future travels. Maybe we'll meet on the road someday!

Awsome story. Glad you decided to do what you did when you did. I too left Cuba in search of freedom but came directly to the US via "los vuelos" The gov did not want my father to leave offered him a post in "Obras Públicas " even tempted him with car n driver in the mid 60's. My mother and I lived as "gusanos" but it only took us 4 years from applying to exit. We of course had a sponsor in the states, my father had a job in the works in NJ before we left Cuba, stayed 1 month in Miami and moved. Funny I wound up finishing my Senior year in Miami High. I knew when I watched the first video I ran across years ago, there was something special, something more, something deeper about their creator. Hearing your story is very emotional for me. I have 2 family members who escaped Venezuela to Colombia then were able to go on to Houston, since they had an American father, but they had to leave 2 children in their early 20’s and a granddaughter in Colombia and a husband who could not leave Venezuela. The 20-something son sold hot dogs until he could afford a better job as a translator, attempting to earn his way to America legally. Seeing your story will be such an encouragement to them all.

You’re missing something here. They had to have 3 years worth of medical care, etc. etc. I believe a sponsor. This program was for the people who had money. In the beginning of the 20th century, your ancestors and mine probably came without a dime and were welcomed to make a go of it. Robert, you are an example why most Americans welcome those who desire to immigrate here. Isn't it ironic that evil governments have to put up walls to keep their citizens from fleeing their country, while freedom loving countries need to put up walls to protect itself from the hordes of people fleeing from desperate situations. My wife is from Colombia, while she is a happy US citizen, in her heart she is still Colombian. But she does not want to ever live in Colombia again as she enjoys the freedom of the USA and the opportunity the USA has for our children.

Cubans have a reputation of being politically conservative after experiencing the Castro years, but he replaced the other end of the political extreme in the dictator Batista. Bottom line, both ends of the political spectrum are mirror images in the way they control and utilize power over their people.

Thank you Robert for an amazing and wonderful review of your journey... SWEET 👍
I truly enjoyed watching and listening to this video. Thank you for sharing your story!
I'm 7 years older than you, but, you remind me of my father. He too immigrated here and was most proud to be an American. From what I've seen/heard you are as well. I wish more people would actually appreciate the freedom and opportunities they were born with here in the U.S. I'm also envious that your "job" isn't like work to you.

God Bless!
Robert, I concur this video about your life and escaping from Cuba and coming to the United States was most interesting. I love the members videos and as soon as they are out, I immediately watch them. I want to wish you and your lovely wife a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year, keep up the great work that you do, from your KZread Friend Mark Drennen in Louisville, Kentucky
Thanks for telling your story. As an Anglo living in Miami, I’ve heard your story hundreds of time- God bless you. Cuba’s loss is our gain.

My wife and I started watching your videos a few months ago and now have seen most of the more recent ones.
I’m glad my family made that decision for me at the expense of losing everything they worked for in 1960 :-) I’m waiting for the day that I can RV in Cuba 🇨🇺

Un placer paisano.

As an immigrant first generation citizen, I have to say... This was my favorite video, thank you for sharing your story and family pics. Very great story!
