    I’ve been flying this model like crazy in Realflight 9.5! I love how easy it is to land. Buying Realflight 9.5 was the best decision regarding how to start again with RC planes. I just with there were more recent E-Flite models such as the June Nite P-51, the new FW-190 and the larger EDF’s like the 80mm F-16 and 90mm Viper.

    After the maiden and a second battery about a month ago, this was without question the best plane I’ve ever bought. It was my 3rd EDF and it blew away my expectations. It sat for 4 months after the build. I didn’t think I was ready. I don’t know if things have finally clicked after 4 1/2 years in the sport, or if the AS3X just makes me look good, but the a-10 was easy to fly and land. It’s difficult to choose my favorite purchase of 2020. It started with the Twin Otter on floats, Conscendo Evolution over the summer, and I ended the year with the Eflite a-10. All three planes are just awesome. Again, they make an “Advanced Intermediate” like me look good. The only people more happy with my purchase of these 3 planes (actually 5. I bought two Evolutions and a Twin Otter used with the wheels) will be the folks at Horizon Hobby’s Replacement Parts.

    Being a former Major in the USAF and an A-10 pilot I absolutely love this plane. I accidentally stumbled across this channel by chance because all I seen was A-10 and thought it was a real plane so silly me. I'm going to buy this just to hang up in the Squadron room. Thanks for sharing the video Horizon Hobby. You said that this is not a first time EDF plane, why so??

    He isn’t kidding! I have been flying for over 15 years and built an A10 from a GWS kit years ago no LG so I-hand launched and belly landed on grass. Back then twin brushless was super expensive so I fiberglassed glassed my airframe (for those belly landings) and mounted a 480 brushless out runner in the tail for power!! No EDF for me back then, (too costly)it was powered by a 11 to 12 inch prop that made it a climbing monster and it was pretty fast to by the days standards. Not as fast as this EDF but it would climb forever!! What a blast!! Today I have the little one (2cell config) by e flight and got my eye on this 64MM one for the future. Don’t delay guys, buy this plane, you will LOVE it!!!

    Slow flight of a edf always blows my mind! I ordered the havoc today for several reasons, love my viper not enough flight time. Love my f15 eagle not enough flight time lol. But the havoc can take a variety of 6s packs and up to 12 minutes of flight time plus flaps and a huge flight envelope for slow flight and fast. So hopefully it will be my go to jet.

    I really want to buy one of these but I've never flown an RC plane before however I have flown a drone with stability control. When I bought the drone the recommendation was the same, to buy something small to practice with that first before spending big money on a bigger drone. I thought long and hard about this and ended up ignoring that advice went out and purchased the drone I wanted, the Yuneec Typhoon Q500 4K and I'm so glad I did because the stability and the size of that drone made it so easy to fly and after I got use to the drone I found myself flying it around like a plane. It was awesome to do flybys. Base on the videos I've seen of the E-flite A-10 leaving it in safe mode will make it a lot easier to fly for a beginner like me and I like that you can fly it at slow speed while you get use to it and that it doesn't have exposed propellers, the thing that is most likely to get broken on landing. I understand the principles of flight like lowering the flaps to lower the speed, adjusting the ailerons to angle the plane and make go up and down and the rudders to turn and I also understand most of this is done automatically when you are manoeuvring the plane. I feel if I go out and buy a smaller plane to start with it's actually going to be harder to fly and I'm going to end up destroying it because it doesn't come with the safe mode that is a feature in this plane. Maybe because I've flown a drone with stability control I feel more confident in stepping directly into one of these with safe mode. Any advice? Am I crazy for wanting to step directly into buying one of these?

    This is the answer to EDF’s as the Conscendo is to prop driven planes for fun and ease to fly. The Conscendo Evolution is the first plane out of the truck to warm up. The Eflite a-10 is every bit as easy to fly. The plan was to maiden in Safe, get it dialed in and use AS3X on the 2nd battery. 2 laps in Safe, a good amount of up trim and AS3X for the rest of the 2 batteries. I’m fall in the “Advanced Intermediate” category. I’ve crashed more planes than I currently own, and I have 27 planes at the moment. This in my opinion was very similar to flying the Twin Otter. The a-10 on takeoff flaps was easy to land in AS3X as well.

I can’t get much help. First ‘tuber to help will get my orders 😁. I flew the a10 64 one time. It was awesome! My landing was great too. But I didn’t notice a little clay mound, like a small ant hill. I hit it as I slowed down. Snapped my nose gear retract pin. I ordered eflg349 to fix it. But that darned E clip inside the retract is a bloody nightmare to get to. Can u tell me how to get that E clip off and then back on? It’s been 3 weeks now I’ve been posting in forums and such with no help. First KZreadr to reply gets my order of eflites umx a10, extra 300, and ultimate 3D. And the extras i keep ordering. :)))) I’m in cancer treatment. Don’t have too long. Yes! The updated version that was released last year ( www.horizonhobby.com/product/a-10-thunderbolt-ii-twin-64mm-edf-bnf-basic-with-as3x-and-safe-select/EFL011500.html ) now includes a Spektrum Dual 40A Smart ESC and AR637TA receiver that allow you to enable and use motor/thrust reversing. Our newer models with Smart ESCs now allow you to enable the reversing via forward programming through the transmitter, but this dual ESC requires you to program both of the ESCs using the programmer: www.horizonhobby.com/product/smart-esc-programming-update-box-avian-and-firma/SPMXCA200.html

    As noted starting around the 4:20 mark in this video, we do not recommend this as a first EDF jet. We recommend starting with the E-flite Habu STS 70mm EDF (especially if you have never flown RC airplanes before), the E-flite F-15 Eagle 64mm EDF, or the E-flite Viper 70mm EDF as a first EDF. After you master any of those, this could be a good choice for a second EDF model.

    Can I use a DX6 with this model and have all the functionality?

  • @HorizonHobbyProducts

    @HorizonHobbyProducts

    Yes! The only catch is if you would also like to use SAFE Select you will have to combine it with the flap channel (as outlined in the manual...when the flaps are down SAFE Select will be on). If you'd like to have retracts, flaps and SAFE Select on separate channels you'll need at least a 7-channel transmitter.

    @@youngbungalo6874 Yes! If you unplug the retracts from channel 5 of the receiver after they are extended, they will remain that way. Then you can use channel 5 to turn SAFE Select on/off independently of the flaps! Or, as outlined in the manual, you can assign SAFE Select to the flap channel so it's on when the flaps are down and off when the flaps are up (then can still use the retracts on channel 5).

    Can i run safe on a seperate switch on my dx6e or do i have to run it off of flaps/gear. Or is there a way to combine flaps and gear to free up a channel.

    As outlined on page 10 in the instruction manual (www.horizonhobby.com/pdf/EFL01150-Manual-EN.pdf), you can assign SAFE Select to the same channel as flaps so when they are fully deployed SAFE is on (and off when they are not fully deployed).

    @@HorizonHobbyProducts thats great. But not even remotely what im asking. Can i put the flaps and gear on a y and have a switch just for safe select? Or can i run safe on constant? I want to be able to have safe on without having flaps deployed.

  • @HorizonHobbyProducts

    @HorizonHobbyProducts

    @@clayrc2591 If you bind with SAFE Select enabled and don't assign it to a switch it will ALWAYS be on. Or, you could possibly put the flaps and gear on a Y-harness then assign SAFE to a separate channel/switch, but we have not tested and do not recommend this. Most people will want to use SAFE for takeoffs and landings with the flaps deployed (which will also work for "bailouts"), hence how we have tested and recommend to do it with a 6-channel transmitter.
