The history of aviation is thrilling, fast, dangerous, and sometimes deadly. In pursuit of the dream of flight we have seen decades of determination and inventiveness and witnessed the birth of an amazing number of different and exotic flying machines. There are many different designs and types of power used to stay in the air, each has its own flying abilities but they all enable us to defy nature.
Extreme Machines is dedicated to finding out how machines work, experience the exciting and flamboyant world of aviation. Focusing on unusual aircraft and man's most extreme methods of flying, we take a look at different ways of powering aircraft from a homebuilt plane powered with a lawnmower engine to the cutting edge technology of NASA's solar powered planes. We take a close look into the world of Vertical Take Off and Landing (VTOL) planes, specifically the infamous Harrier Jump Jet with its unique manoeuvrability and ability to take-off and land from almost anywhere.

I absolutely love this channel. I only just discovered it recently. I am 22 years old and autistic, documentaries are my interest. I’m obsessed with documentaries. But Naked Science has a wide range of documentaries to watch. Thanks for this up load and channel :)

You certainly don’t want to have acrophobia in some of those aircraft! My jewels were in my throat in many of those!

What happened to the OSPREY V-22 Tilt Rotor? My ex was on the design team, so I know it exists...

Probably this show was produced when the Osprey was still classified. I believe this is a mid 1990s show from the history channel.

@@carwashadamcooper1538 You might be right. In my opinion, the tilt rotor should've been in service way before the 1980's. The cost was high but not too high, given its advantages to branches like the Marine Corps. They served superbly in Afghanistan for medevac and tactical troop deployment. In Vietnam they would've been an indispensable asset. A quick deployment of 20 to 30 fully geared troops anywhere in the battle field would've helped.

If you were to convert Hp to thrust one hp is about 75 to 110 lb /ft so a formula one car would be at minimum 60,000 lb/ft of thrust

Utah manufacturer Dick Cheney. Not to be confused with the former Vice President that shot his friend in the face when "hunting" quail with clipped wings in an enclosed area.

Only issue I see with "homebuilts" is unmonitored, amateurs in airspace reserved for professionals. Will "they" be able to control the airspace and keep inflight accidents to an absolute minimum? Time will tell won't it.

This is some History or Discovery channel TV thing from 20 years ago. Not surprising that a 750K sub YT channel running this stuff has only 3.5K views after more than a day. Up your game. It is weak.
