SLC-DTW: This was an unforgettable flight. As we boarded, the welcoming flight attendant saw the t-shirt by 2 year old son was wearing (had a drawing of an airplane with the words "SO FLY"). She commented on how she liked it and then asked if we wanted to go into the cockpit. I immediately blurted out "YES!". So she politely pointed us in where the captain and first officer couldn't have been more welcoming. The captain asked how we were doing and if we liked seeing all the buttons and screens. He then proceeded to stand up and offered the captain's chair to my son. The first officer said he could touch whatever he wanted, he couldn't do any damage. My son grabbed the joystick and turned and pulled on it and just looked around in stone-faced. Words cannot describe the joy I had. This was definitely one of the friendliest and happiest flights I've ever been on (the fact that my son slept most of it also helped). A huge thanks goes out to Delta and the crew onboard.
The flight was about half full. No one was in front of us and the few rows across from us only had 1 person in each of the 3-seat sections. Beautiful takeoff with clear skies that offered stunning views of the Wasatch Mountains as we flew over.
For those who are familiar with my videos, I'm a huge fan of flying through clouds. The Detroit area has scattered clouds so it was a great day to film. The clouds were quite choppy so it made for an fun descent. The winds were also gusting at the airport around 40 knots so it was a bit tipsy on landing but the pilot eventually stuck the landing.
