Flight in a Stearman PT-17

#aviation #biplane #pilot I was able to do a little flying (except takeoff and landing) in a 1942 Stearman PT-17, hangared at Northampton airport, 7B2. One of the owners was the primary pilot in the back seat.

There’s a Stearman at Noho!! Wow, my favorite airplane at my favorite airport! Lucky man, I flew from that airport for many years and flying a Stearman is a major bucket list item. Thanks for sharing this, what a blast!!

It is a nice plane. It is co-owned by a few guys at the airport, and is sort of the mascot for 7B2. Climb speed is 70 kts, approach speed 70 kts, cruise speed about 80 kts.

@@TheSportFlyer-xy6sn I’m jelly, wish that had been there when I was flying from 7B2. A friend here just bought a WACO biplane, it’s amazing but my heart will always be with the Stearman.

Pilot should have eye protection on.

Agree. Passanger is without a flight helmet and is constantly adjusting his headset. Mic has no noise abatement cover. Who knows, perhaps there is no intercom. Anyone with any time in one of these machines knows there blows a CAT 5 hurricane while in the backseat. CAT 2 while in the front seat. Exhaust note from the W670 is deafening above anything but an idle. Noise cancelling headset is a joke. Still .. nothing compares.
