Flight in a gyrocopter/gyroplane across the UK to a tiny Orkney island

Ғылым және технология

oxfordgyroplanes.org
Only in gyroplanes/gyrocopters is it possible to cross the entire UK, refuel at major airports and land in a field on a tiny monastic island!
We travel in formation with another gyroplane all the way to the top of the UK across the Scottish Highlands and land in a small field on Papa stronsay - the smallest island of the Orkneys and home to the Golgotha Monastery and its Transalpine Redemptorist monks ...

    Indeed. Absolutely unforgettable. Only in a gyroplane could you realistically do such a journey and land/takeoff in a 300M field.

    @@tfelicivideos of course! Hey Tom, my I ask? I’m planning on buying a Cavalon. Is there any reason I shouldn’t? Is there another gyro I should buy? I appreciate your advice.

    @@thomasrudder9639 I only have experience in flying the MAGNI M16 (and once the m24). The M16 in particular is reputed as being the most stable gyro out there with higher side wind tolerance than other autogyros. Take off roll is also shorter by all accounts at 300m to clear 50 ft at mtow as opposed to the cavalon at 400 Mt. However the cavalon has more baggage space than the m24 competitor, and higher mtow (although the m24 plus with 915 rotax has effectively caught up in that regard)

    Great video, breathtaking. One tiny quibble (⚠️)... on my one trip to Orkney I was told late at night in a pub by an Orcadian... never to call it "The Orkneys". Give us away as real Southerners apparently. 😊

    How do you feel about open-air vs closed canopy cross country flight?

  • @tfelicivideos

    @tfelicivideos

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hi David just saw your comment now. Open cockpit gives you unmatched and unhindered views, so it is far more immersive, especially when crossing dramatic terrain like the Highlands. The MAGNI m16c Also has a surprising amount of storage options and the own cockpit allowed my son to carry a rucksack on his front. However closed cockpit protects you from the cold and you don't need the extra suit. You also feel less vertigo I think when flying very high ...

  • @tfelicivideos

    @tfelicivideos

    3 жыл бұрын

    The model with most luggage space is the Magni Gyro M22. Otherwise if you are flying by yourself on a tandem seater you can fill your backseat to your heart's content (so long as it does not interfere with the control stick in the back)

    Interesting and informative with decent commentary, not over-done with theatrics. For future videos, please make added music much less obtrusive; what you are saying is more important than loud woo-wooing plinkerty-plonk "music".
