Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Indian policymakers are aggressive with their alternative fuel policies, Indian cars are already running on E10 Fuel, and by Next year all vehicles will be running on E20 fuel. Still, before filling up your tanks you should know what the hell this is E20. here in this video, we will take a deep dive to understand what is this flex fuel, how it work and what are the pro and cons of this

Totally agree. There is a major disadvantage of sugarcane is it consumes lot of water about 10x as compared to other crops. If we promote sugarcane then it will lead to create another problem esp ground water. If we promote ethanol but other than sugarcane then it will successful.

Quite eye opening. I think hydrogen fuel (for trains, trucks and buses), hybrid and electric vehicles (for passengers) should become part of transition. Govt should promote hybrid vehicles more than flex fuel vehicles and since we have already found lithium reserves in our country, I think transition towards hybrid and electric wouldn't be difficult. The idea of flex fuel seems bad for our environment, especially northern states who are already running out of ground water, neither are these vehicles efficient. We might succeed in becoming self-sufficient but not at the cost of environment and something which will become a huge problem for our future generations. Middle east might have huge oil reserves but they don't have fertile lands and enough fresh water sources. We should think smart and proceed.

Finding and actually mining those reserves is another ball game. Not to mention the environmentally sensitive areas of ladakh will suffer a lot if lithium was to be mined there. Hydrogen fuel cells are still not viable on a large scale and hydrogen combustion based engines are not a good idea : ) . Not to mention the pollution generated in the production of such vehicles and the electricity itself can only be balanced with the emissions generated by regular ICE cars if they run for at least 5-6 yrs, which is becoming increasingly rare considering our ever growing use and throw mindset. The only viable solution is to turn to efficient ICE engines, encourage public transportation and get out of the current consumer mindset.

water consumed per litre of ethanol is not 2850 L at minimum but is 2000 Litre on AVERAGE. average sugarcane production in India is 97-98 ton / hectare. in north India, sugar content in the cane is nearly 4 - 4.5 % & south India ( mainly Tamilnadu ) it is 5 - 6 %. leaving 4 months if sowing & harvesting , irrigating it 8 times , 10 cm of water each time, LEADS TO 100×100×0.8 m³ of water per hactare. if you add water required for industrial production etc then should also compare the requirements of oil shipping, refining & allied processes.

A couple of points to note: 1) More ethanol is needed right now because the engine is the same. The calorific value of diesel is also low compared to petrol, but the engine's design makes the difference. More compression or something like that could solve this problem. Then only we can comment on the mileage. 2) Prices might be comparable today but for the future, we can't be sure. But what is certain is the limited fossil fuel, it is a non-renewable resource and it will only deplete. Hence, making fuel from your crops will always be a better option because, in this way, every country can be self-sufficient to some extent like they are with cereals or grains. 3) Lastly the problem of excessive use of groundwater for irrigation. That is a real problem, not just for the production of sugarcanes but for other crops as well. And to solve this problem, we need to revolutionise wastewater treatment methods. Treated wastewater coming out from STPs should be so good that it can be directly used for irrigation, hence lowering groundwater consumption. We will always need water for crops but we can choose what type of water we use.

Process for making for 1 litre ethenol takes around 2800 litre of water, too much water wastage and also food prices bound to go up as well. We have the example of Brazil. For us common people nothing will change as prices likely to remain same Govt will take all benefits.

Finally faida to government and car makers and nuksaan to customers. This is how any country works. Not only the running costs will be higher due to less energy density but maintenance and engine life can also be a concern. Dont understand why government can’t subsidise strong hybrids before ev takes over for passenger segment. Hydrogen can be a good solution for commercial and public transport system

Govt is averse to hybrids , maybe because they are practical and will get popular too soon ultimately hurting petroleum taxes .Cant think of any other reason.

Transition means cost, which we need to bear in any kind of transition so the best solution is to invest on long term sustainable transition. Ecosystem will adapt the cheapest fastest and most sustainable change and government should plays as catalyst.

Btw food inflation is somewhat needed for the survival of farmers, otherwise we may end up always paying subsidised things to farmers which is clearly not working since the last 20 plus years.

The extra sugarcane we export right now can be shifted to ethanol production. So how is ground water depletion going to increase? If currently also we are producing sugarcane and exporting it, then redirecting it to ethanol won't increase water consumption right? Need exact figures to check.

Ethanol has much lesser energy density than petrol, that's why it'll be a bit problematic to use. We should also give a try to e fuel made by Porsche.

One thing you forgot to mention is that many politicians from Maharashtra including gadkari and many UP politicians have personal interest in this because they own sugarcane mills. It's lobbying by these politicians that is making gadkari push ethanol. It will make cars unaffordable for us.
