Stevie Nicks is one of the most creative rock vocalists ever.... the way she plays with her voice, the combination of roughness and sweetness, the gravelly warble, the wailing and convulsing.... it's so captivating to me

I TOTALLY agree Samuel! Something about her voice just makes me so emotional, it almost hurts. I just love her voice! It's beautiful and mesmerizing, even in this performance which wasn't her best due to the several technical issues and probably due to her having been crying over her best friend, Sara's death from cancer in the previous days. I love you Stevie.

Yeah, there was something wrong with her singing on that 1982 tour. Ive been doing the deep dive, something was wrong with her at that point, too much vibrato and not enough effort in the melody. But she was still fantastic, all the same. Lindsey on the other hand was off the charts on that tour. But you can see the drugs finally taking effect on all of them

The cocaine was involved at that point which also took a toll on her weight and aging. But yes the sound isn’t mixed great either. But you’re right. You got people nowadays that’ll get on stage sober as hell and sound shit.

I see elements of Stevie in performers like Maggie Rogers, Florence Welch, the Haim sisters, Paris Paloma (who will be opening for her in the UK), and even Taylor Swift (at select times, and Stevie by her own admission feels a connection with her). The new artist Chappell Roan also sometimes reminds me of her vocal technique (very very different musical style though...and I'd say she sounds more like Kate Bush & Pat Benatar, if we're being more specific). But no one has matched Stevie's presence and abilities. She is a legend for a reason.

She was so torn up over Robin’s passing that she married Robin’s Husband. 8 months later they both realized that they had reacted out of Grief and had the marriage annulled. I’m not sure but I do believe that Robin left Her Daughter to Stevie Nicks should her Husband need help with that.

Also, people stop always assuming it was coke that was affecting her performance! Her best friend was dying of cancer right during this time and my understanding from watching interviews is that it was devastating to her and she had been crying the night of this concert. I've previously posted some critical posts about this performance previously, but I will give Stevie the benefit of a doubt. I seem to recall that this festival performance was thrown in at the last minute into FM's Mirage tour schedule, and the stage sound setup was not unlike Live Aid, where 6 bands that night were being swapped out one after the other, and anything could and would go wrong. At the beginning you can tell Stevie is wildly gesturing to the sound person offstage to turn up the volume on her monitor -- she probably couldn't hear herself. Later you see her pulling something from her ear. It may have either been an ear plug -- or it may have been an in-ear monitor, because Todd Rundgren had started using them the same year, in 1982. However, back then they would have provided both stage monitors AND in ear monitors in case the musicians didn't like them. Looks like maybe Stevie didn't! So it's possible it caused issues for Stevie in terms of both timing and pitch. However, the rest of the band was clearly unfazed -- they're all playing in top form. They're all singing really well together on the choruses. Lindsey, especially, is really mixing it up and doing some amazing and playful stuff on his guitar solos. Unfortunately, Stevie apparently was trying to improvise at the end also, which was probably a bad idea when you can't hear yourself well. And then suddenly you can hear audio feedback squealing, which is probably precisely when they got Stevie's stage monitors working, and they forgot they had the volume cranked up, causing Stevie to briefly go into Exorcist eye-roll mode. At that point Stevie's voice was blown from trying to project when she couldn't hear herself. Finally, about Stevie looking pale -- during the Mirage tour, for whatever reason, she chose to start wearing makeup to make herself look whiter. A departure from her previous California Tan look. She carried that look forward to extremes up to the Dance album from that point on. I think she was getting dark circles under her eyes from overdoing.... STUFF.

You'd think the band would achieve a template concert version on a tour and play it night following night, stanza for stanza. That's not the case here. I have heard 3 different versions of this song from the 1982 tour, Memphis being my favourite. And every one of them is different. What that tells me is the musicians are keyed into each other in a way that the audience can never suspect. Yeah, Stephanie's voice is scratchy. But remember this is outdoors at night. The worst possible conditions for a vocalist.

I was at the US festivals. I was right by the stage and during intervals of the songs Stevie would walk off stage and a guy would hand her a glass of wine and a mirror with coke on it. She'd snort and drink from the glass of wine and go back out onstage. She was using substances as I was there and witnessed it.

I tend to agree with all the comments regarding the sound quality and the performance. Listening to this 36 years after the fact on sound equipment that much more advanced tends to highlight the negative however. I'll guarantee you that if you were to ask anyone who attended this concert they would tell you that Fleetwood Mac was awesome and sounded great! The news media gave them glowing reviews. Of course by the time Fleetwood Mac came on stage they were not the only ones fucked up...the audience was right there with them.

It looks like Stevie's ear piece was not working which can make it hard to sing because you can't hear yourself over all the noise. To me it looked as if she was struggling emotionally as well with the technical failure and probably was containing her anger and unable to really get into the song as she usually does. I would have been PISSED if I had been her and that happened! These guys are perfectionists and professionals. And for those saying she's "coked up", please don't assume it's drugs. I think this band has earned a bit more respect than that.

Aubrey, ear piece monitors did not exist in 1982! Bands relied on those big clunky floor monitors! You can see Stevie motion with her left hand at the beginning to the sound guys to raise the volume, then she starts pounding her fists to let them know she wants the drums louder. Her emotions were running high! As we all know, Robin had very little time left at this point! And yes, she is under the influence of cocaine AND booze! Maybe more booze than anything! You can see it in her eyes and her motions, trust me, I've been there! But, our Stevie was a true pro! That's why we love her!!!

I agree Aubrey 100%. People make such quick judgements. STEVIE NICKS would not have went on stage at all if she was so messed up she couldn't contain herself. If people realized the enormous pressure that artists face and just how grueling a world tour is to their livelihood they would have a different perspective.

First off, I adore Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks, so what I am saying is just the truth - not out to bash her. I was at that show, and I had been to numerous Fleetwood Mac shows before this one. Stevie was not herself that night for whatever reason. She went on a long crying rant about her brother being a witch.

Trust me, she was coked up...as were her sound crew...they all were. The only difference is that Lindsey Buckingham (who was only a self-styled "pot head") was sober enough to step up, with guitar in hand, and attempt to guide her along into the music, at the beginning of the "song."
