🌟 FLEET FRIDAY 🌟 FDNY SQUAD COMPANY 18

Ойын-сауық

FDNY Squad Company 18 is a 2013 m Attacker with a Squad Body on the back. It has a 1,000gpm & 500 gal water tank. There are a total of 8 Squad Companies in the FDNY. Squads respond as engine companies for their first, second and third due areas with the exception of Squad 8, Squad 18 & Squad 41 only have first and second due boxes. Responding as a Engine they go to ordinary engine company calls such as CFR Calls, Fire Alarms, Car Fires, CO and Gas Calls. When they respond as a squad they go to Confirmed Fires, Tech Rescues, Water Rescues, Subway Emergencies, Collapse, Confirmed Space, High Angel and other rescue type incidents. Basically a Squad Company can do everything a Rescue company can do with the exception of not having all the rescue company equipment and they do not do water rescue diving. Squad Companies are unique because they have the ability to be a Engine Company and have all the tools that a Truck Company has so they can operate as a truck company. All Squad Company members are Rescue Tech Level II & Hazmat Tech Level II. They go through over 300 hours of training. Squad Companies can get assigned to Hazmat Calls as a Hazmat Tech Company to assist Hazmat Company 1 on scene.
Some Special Equipment on Squad Companies but not limited to Search Ropes, Rescue Harnesses, KLSR Rope, Bottle Jacks, Rad Eye watches, Paratech Struts, Air Tools, Mustang Water Rescue Suites, Slings, Rigging Chains, High Rise Blanket, TNT Cutter, Ram, Spreaders, Holnatro Combo Tool, Subway Emergency Kits, Elevator Kits, Cribbing Caddys, Airbags, Climbing Gear, 4:1 Bags, Ludlum Screening Kit, Space Case, Cribbing, Rebar cutters, Carpenter Bag, Third Rail Indicator, Dremmel Tool, Man in Machine, Impact Tools, Drills, Saws, High Ride Window Kit, Map Gas Torch, Rigging Hardware, Battery Bag, Cockloft Nozzle, Hazmat Lion Suites, Manhole Rescue Kit, Tech Rescue & Hazmat Helmets, Boots, APR Kits, Water Rescue Bags, Yates, Confined Space Gun Slingers, 600' ropes, steel cables, confined space coms, wrecking bar, stokes, Shackles, Timbles, Fist Grips, Confined Space Cylinders 15min & 30min Scott Packs, RIT Pak, Pak Tracker, Etc

All your videos are great, but this one was awesome! I always wondered what equipment was on the Squads and you gave a great video tour. I am blown away by how much equipment they can pack on an engine body. 😆 Thanks for an excellent, very detailed tour and explanation. An A+ video all the way! 👍🏼

Thank you so much for the walk thought of the ( SQUAD) companies of the wonderful Engine 🚒😊 I like how they use wooden WEDGES on the rear hose beds. The Drivers compartment has HOSE pressure cheat sheets on the compartment door. For ME personally it was always hard to figure in my head ( Fiction LOSS) when I was a new Explorer Scout with the Fire Post I belong to. I bought a book on Friction Loss learning I was so confused. I talked to a long time Driver/service Driver, and he told me don't confuse yourself with memory, learning all that in your head. 😊 This long time PAYED FF was a great guy, always funny and a great teacher to us Young Fire Exploring scouts. I had just started being a ( Resident FF) at the main station. We did weekend Dispatch duties before we had ( 911) call centers. We still had 7 regular calls to different Fire Districts.

Again Thank you so much 😊 my FDNY information walk through Friend 😊 you get an A+ from me. I Love how they have many cheat sheets to help them refresh their memory for all the many different special calls outs that they go on. Great video as always! I love how in-depth it is with even all the smaller of the tools. It’s amazing how under looked squad company is to the untrained eye. I always thought that heavy rescue companies only did the most of the tool carrying and what not but squads seem to be the work horses of the FDNY. That is for the crazy calls. All things considered there’s more squads than there are rescues. This video gave me a lot of insight of the type of calls they would have to respond to. Thank you so much for all these great videos. They really are great entertainment for fire buffs. PS will you do a video on a USAR Taskforce rig? That would be so cool since they’re such huge caches. Thanks!

What an impressive setup the FDNY has.

Not really. The UK Fire and Rescue Service operates and is organised very differently. Due to different risks and construction principals. We also have smaller water mains. The UK extinguishes on High Pressure Hosereels for most routine fires. It also has far stricter national standard operating procedures with the use of Breathing Apparatus. Also our hose couplings are instantaneous an an appliance in Edinburgh can provide a water supply to appliance from London. A separate Ambulance Service handles medical emergencies although the UK Fire Service has better medical training they’re not EMT or paramedic trained and certainly wouldn’t be allowed to administer narcan but work closely before with the Ambulance Service due to it being ran off its feet. SCUBA is handled by the Police in the UK and is viewed more as a recovery rather than rescue effort In a nutshell the UK doesn’t operate on a Truck and Engine Basis. Generally Pump Crews (similar to engines) known as Pumping Appliances or Pumps handle most incidents and are supported by ‘specialist appliances’ which provide unique capabilities such as Rescue, Aerial, HAZMAT, High Volune Pumping, Water Rescue USAR. They are predominately geared towards structure fires but carry kit for routine non fire calls. Although UK Pumping Appliances look the same they generally have a fairly standard equipment load out although some of it varies depending on the risks and budget of the Brigade. They don’t carry big ventilation saws if this is required this is done by a USAR Unit or Rescue Unit. Same with Rope Rescue. They can handle Auto Extrication, bank based water rescue or flood wading, rescue at height using ground ladders (10.5m and 13.5m). They carry some airbags and cribbing but only for a light vehicle. They are generally closer to an Engine Company in US terms. Some Brigades operate Heavy Rescue Pumps which are similar to squad companies as they operate additional mainly Road Traffic Collision (RTC) Rescue gear for incidents which regular pumps may not be equipped for such as LGV but they’re not as comprehensively equipped as an FDNY squad due to space. London which is the most comparable to FDNY has fourteen Fire Rescue Units similar to FDNY Rescue Companies. Each has a standard set of skills but several specialise in Advanced Rope Ops, several do USAR/Water/Rope Ops, and others do Water/Large Animal and HAZMAT support. LFB also has a dedicated CBRN unit known as a Rapid Response Team. UK USAR is equipped to national standards including LFB with funding, kit equipment and training issued by HM Government. London only has eleven Aerial Appliances but they provide working at height/water tower capability with a crew of two only. Any heavy ventilation tactics would be handled by a Pump or Rescue Unit crew operating from the cage using their own tools and equipment. These are mobilised on request or as part of a specific pre determined attendance. They’re not genetically on all building fire calls like in the US.

Why does FDNY still use 10 codes, especially when the officer needs a cheat sheet to remember them all? I know that that FEMA's NIMS standard has phased out 10 codes for public safety and doesn't recommend their use to improve interoperability.

10 codes go back in the FDNY so long. Every company has the sheet there…. It’s so you don’t make a mistake…. Over 60 codes

We know that you don’t make department policy, but with all the codes and sub codes, it goes back to what the original comment stated to make it easier. And if you need a cheat sheet so you don’t make mistakes, then dispatch needs a cheat sheet to interpret what they were just told by the officer, go to plain text. That being said……..thanks for your videos!!!! It is interesting to see how the FDNY operates….!!! Somewhere, where there is always something going on.

There isn't as many 10 codes as it looks like. All the important ones are easy to remember. It cuts down on traffic for simple jobs and for complex responses you can just call a 10 code like a 10-60 with a pre determined response, instead of listing off every single unit you need (10-60 for a major emergency like a collapse brings 5 engines, 1 HMTU engine, 4 ladders, 1 SOC support ladder, 4 battalions, the rescue battalion, the safety battalion, 1 division, 2 rescues, 1 squad, 1 collapse rescue, 1 tac support unit, 1 hazmat, the SOC logistics unit, the SOC compressor unit, a vac truck, a RAC unit, the field comm unit & EMS rescue/haztac resources).

Why don’t you like the fact that a lot of departments use Quints. What’s wrong with Quints??? 😂😂 A lot of the stations the Squad is at have low apparatus bays, and I don’t think they can be retrofitted to allow a Quint, or ladder, to fit. It’s not like there is a lot of open space in NYC to build brand new stations.
