Flaxseed from the Garden - Stories from Fall

Processing flax from the garden. Fiber farmer Terri pulls seed off the dried plants she grew, to harvest the seed and get the flax plants ready to ret on the grass.
Flax and other plant fibers have been used for thousands of years by people all over the world. It takes some time and effort to get plant fibers ready to spin - this is one afternoon in the middle of the process.
I love working with all kinds of fibers - wool, silk, cotton, and flax. I make yarn from my sheep's wool and plan to make linen from this flax. But the seeds are a bonus!

I need one of those things! What is it called? I winnow with a basket and the wind - which is fine for most things, but I never mind having a job made easier!

I bought a set of real sieves from a rock hounding store at a large price…but with all the things I grow and save seed from, it is worth it! Around $125 for the set. I used almost all of them, largest holes to smallest holes, to process these.
