Igbo is not a dialect, but a language, like Yoruba, Hausa, French, English, Russian, etc. It means that it has its own grammar, vocabulary, linguistics, phonetics, mechanisms. In fact, in many universities across Europe and America Igbo is taught, as well as Yoruba, Hausa, Fulani, and many other African languages. A dialect is a variant of a language.
