As a pro ex-dancer. I know only too well how difficult it is to fill the floor/stage with just your presence, your body, your moves, your rhythm & your music. To hold the audience's attention & keep them engaged - until "the dancer becomes to dance"! Even after all these years. This is still iconic.

Also an ex-pro dancer... don't agree with op at all.. it's all got to do with charisma and stage presence.. with the right charisma you don't even need to dance to hold an audience attention.. even for a whole 3 minutes!

There are certain 80’s songs that give me an overwhelmingly painful and bittersweet sense of nostalgia. This is definitely one of them.

Michael Sembello's great song still kills. And that guitar solo just shreds so hard. Perfect. If Mike had to be a one-hit wonder, might as well be a grand slam home run like this song. Awesome.

In the Audition dance (Flashdance...What a Feeling) Marine Jahan did most of the dancing, but they also had gymnast Sharon Shapiro who does the leaps, and the break dance part was a guy called Richard Colón.

Because you had to kill the illusion. Well, you know what they say, it is better to know the truth than to live in lies.

Not so well known is that the dancing was mostly done by Marine Jahan. She didn't get mentioned in the film's credits - made for some trouble later when Jennifer Beals admitted it wasn't her dancing in the movie. If you look carefully you see the dancer's face is usually dashed past too fast to see during the complex dance moves.

Actually a pretty short time after the movie was released everybody knew that. It was common knowledge at that time. In fact there was a boy at the ending sequence in the ending dance scene doing the break dancing. Kind of a joke during that period that this girl didn't do her dancing in the movie and that Kevin Bacon didn't do his in Footloose. That was one of the reasons people were so impressed with Patrick Swazye in "Dirty Dancing" since he did all of his dancing.

This is my favorite version of this song. Interestingly enough, NONE of the dance parts were done by Jennifer Beals. When you think that it's her that is dancing, it is actually several body doubles dressed to look like her. One was Richard Colon who dressed in drag to do some of the dancing parts. One of which was French actress and dancer Marine Jahan and a few others. Richard Colon was the first person in hip hop to dress in drag to perform some of the dancing parts.
