I think the reason that Debbie could forgive Liz, other than because she was a real sweetheart, was that she recognized that Eddie took advantage of Liz's grief over the death of her husband. He probably had the hots for her the whole time and just took advantage when the situation presented itself. I also think that Debbie realized that Fisher was a cad and that she was fortunate to be rid of him.

I think later on Debbie realized that it was probably for the best because their marriage at the time was already vulnerable obviously and Eddie Fisher and her wouldn't have lasted anyway if the whole scandal didn't happen. Plus it would have hurt the children more, then again, she wouldn't have married that gross shoe salesman guy in the 60s..... hmm In an alternate universe Debbie should have married her first boyfriend, Robert Wagner. Being athletic, there would have been no way she could have drowned.

Oh but she did its History, good luck to her, it prolonged her career and Liz kept her in the news, Good Luck to her, , you are entitled to your opinion. You can't make someone stay with you if they don't love you, Eddie had a lovely voice, and was according to a lot of people a really great guy, Ann-Margret, Connie Stevens ,Bobby Darin, Andy Williams, Frank Sinatra, MM, I could be here all day, Good Luck to Debbie she became a sort of star, she had a very limited talent, read what Gene Kelly said about her. Like most marriages its 6 of one and half a dozen of the other, and normally no ones business, unless you milk it. I liked Debbie, she was always good on a talk show.

Debbie is a beautiful example of how you shouldn't ever let any man ruin your life-long friendship. If I were in her shoes, I'd probably be mad at both Lizzy and Eddie, but what she has done was a generous and kind hearted, but also intelligent act. Imagine if she dumped Liz and stayed with Eddie as if nothing happened - yuck! It's rather rare to see the cheated side behaving like that - many people will even forgive their disloyal partners and instead direct all of their anger at the "other woman/man", as if it wasn't their partners fault in the first place! And, shall something like this ever happen to me (God forbid!), I hope I'll be smart enough to dump my SO and never look back, instead of trash-talking the other woman as if she's the culprit! Yes, I agree that it's not nice to steal other people's partners, but cheating on YOUR partner is much worse and much more cowardly. As someone nicely put it, "you cannot break a happy home unless someone hands you the keys".

Eddie Fisher was a small time singer and minor movie actor. He married Debbie first, and dumped her about 4.5 years later for Liz. When LIz dumped him for Richard Burton, then he married that cute girl lead in Phillips 66 and had 2 fine daughters with her. His main claim to fame was he married 3 great women. Liz made most of her money in perfume, the girl from Highway 66 from cosmetics and Debbie had less, due to her bad taste in men. She made by far the most movies, did the most performances and stayed at it the longest of any movie queen I can recall right now. She had roles that made people feel good and happy. Liz and Debbie who were friend in Hollywood for maybe 5 years from age 17, started speaking again about 45 years later. Liz left Debbie a fine set of her Jewelry. Liz had about 400 million dollars and Debbie about 60m. Carrie had 6 million. Not so much by Hollywood standards.

When Mike Todd died, Elizabeth Taylor almost went crazy with grief. Eddie Fisher was also devastated by the loss of Mike because they were very good pals and Eddie looked up to MIke, he almost kind of hero worshipped him. Mike's death left a huge hole in the lives of both Elizabeth AND Eddie. Elizabeth later said that this shared grief between her and Eddie Fisher played a big part in both of them getting together, and I think that this is understandable. Each of them knew what the other one was going through. Grief can be a very lonely thing, and when you have someone close by who knows EXACTLY how destroyed you are feeling....well, I guess feelings start to develop. I feel that Eddie got a bad press from all of this, but the truth is that he adored Elizabeth and she was the love of his life. Very few men could have resisted Elizabeth Taylor in her prime.....she was beautiful beyond words. Of course it was terrible for Debbie too......she was betrayed by her husband AND her close friend. Eddie Fisher said in his book that he remembers the day when he knew for sure that Elizabeth was strong again. It was on the set of 'Cleopatra' where she was to meet the SECOND great love of her life (after Mike Todd)....Richard Burton. Eddie said that she walked on to the set dressed in a gold costume and everyone stared in awe at the incredible vision that was Elizabeth Taylor........Eddie says that this was the moment when he knew that Elizabeth no longer needed him. Elizabeth always knew that she had wronged Debbie and they were later able to put it all behind them and become friends again......and it certainly helped Debbie's career because she lived off of the Eddie-Debbie-Liz-Biz for the next several decades.

She was a lover of men for sure. She cared about her own needs over the opinions of anyone else. She needed Eddie at that time to get over Mike Todd. She got more out of men then she did from a female friendship and she was true to her own needs. I admire her a lot. Debbie got the love and support of the media and people and Elizabeth didnt care for that. She didnt care what people said about her. Both were very beautiful in different ways.

Debbie was a brilliantly talented entertainer and the industry never really recognized her appropriately. Unfortunately she is more often remembered for the Eddie/Debbie/ Liz scandal or as Carrie's mother. I'll never understand why she sent Eddie to comfort Elizabeth after Mike Todd's death anyway. You don't send your husband to be with a lonely widow considered at the time to be the sexy and most beautiful women in the world. I don't care how innocent Debbie appears.

Apparently their marriage was already messed up, maybe she was "testing" him so that if he did mess around with Liz, she could get a legitimate divorce. But the real truth is she was that innocent and Elizabeth was a good friend at the time, I don't think she ever thought in a million years her good friend was just going to have an affair with her husband. In a sad sort of way, I think Elizabeth also used Debbie's innocence to her advantage and used Debbie. She wasn't a very good person in that respect until she got a little older and matured a bit.

They were both beautiful, but not Eddie. He was a little Weisel of a dirt bag. Not even a man of good character or values. Pleaseeeee, her husband had just died. And that was supposed to be his best friend. Of course she was devastated and vulnerable, so he took the opportunity. Lost his wife and children. ...not just any wife, but Debbie Reynolds (loyal movie star). Thinking he has the power to hit back .... marries Elizabeth Taylor and says SHE IS THE LOVE OF HIS LIFE. Elizabeth not loyal because she's been married before and knows he is a little Weisel, divorces him later. Boo hoo hoo for the little Weisel.

Debbie was never a 'beauty' but she was cute (she always nice teeth/a nice smile), and she aged amazingly!!!!! I suppose she had a really good plastic surgeon. In that clip from 1988, she was 56 years old, but her face was completely smooth. And in the clip from 2000 she was 68. She looked absolutely incredible for those ages.

After reading Eddie's book, sounds like Debbie was a dead piece of ass. As far as a singer Eddie could out sing them all. Maybe not Bing with his smooth voice, but watch that video with Andy Williams and Bobby Darin and he had the voice. He had 5 times the voice that Elvis had.

it kept Debbie Reynolds career going for the rest of her life, with her limited talent, Elizabeth was beautiful, talented, and who could blame Eddie, LIz was the love of his life, most beautiful woman or girl scout? if it had not been for the publicity of this marriage breakup and the name Elizabeth Taylor, you would never have heard of Debbie Reynolds again, most of the films she made bombed at the box office anyway.

Leave Eddie alone,,

It was so obvious from the photographs I've seen, even before Mike's death, that Eddie was desperately in love with Elizabeth. Debbie was no fool, she must have suspected something and probably she no longer cared about Eddie. I admire Debbie for not holding a grudge, it takes class to behave that way. RIP now Debbie.

I think in that instance, its just to have a grudge. What is admirable is that, as Debbie admitted, she later forgave Liz for what Liz did. Sure Eddie is responsible for starting it, but Liz could have refused Eddie. In either case, in the end, clearly Liz divorced Eddie and it is possible also that Liz was remorseful and Debbie saw that - so it made forgiving her easier. Either way, Debbie stands out as the heroine.
