Is there a rule of thumb for how much of the worm body should extend past the ends of the hook?

I dont see why it wouldn't. Traditional San Juan worm has worked for me countless times on owens river, hot creek, pleasant valley and several mountain streams where they wouldn't take any pattern I would throw at them due to them being pressured by the crowds. Great spin on this fly, especially to have in your arsenal on over cast and murky days when all else IMO

Do you have a trick for threading the micro chenille through the bead? I just spend 15 minutes on it. sigh

@@paulabradfield5893 bobbin threader or take some 6x tippet, double it back creating a loop, wet the worm, and gently coax it through the bead. Do this before putting bead on hook. I usually do a dozen before tying.
