I'm hoping they will work out OK Tom. If they do I plan to make some large ones for the mill table. Cheers Nobby

Clever clogs, what a super idea. Another time cut downwards when doing the radius, so that the tool is only cuttig on the end. Will save all that chatter dues to the surface area contact of the whole part length. Regards from Australia.

I'm still learning David. That's why I'm always greatful for your advice. Used your trick with the counter sinks. Cheers Nobby

Gday Nobby, beautiful job on the clamps, you’ve really done a nice job, making mistakes is the best way to learn even though it’s frustrating, with electronic edge finder I was always told to have it spinning slowly while touching off, sometimes the spring loaded ball is not quite centred in the unit and will mess with the results, I do have one but never used it, I must find it again now I have a mill with plenty of Z height, great job Nobby, cheers mate

Thanks for the very nice comment Matty. The electric edge finder I have has a fixed ball on the end. I was recommended not to run the mill when using it. You have to bring the ball very gently up to the workpiece, so as not to damage the end. ATB Cheers Nobby

Looks good Nobby. A few lessons learned - that's the way it goes. Each time improves you for the next thing you make. I like the clamp design, very smart. Not sure what features your mill has but if you have any kind of readout on the quill, whether dials, scale or DRO you cen use those to return to a height position for touching off each side of a part. You can also set the probe down on a block and use that to set the height of the probe each side of the part - should you happen to be working on something long that you can't go around. Good parts in the end though. I like that countersink trick too.

when finding center of Y axis in vise, put your edge finder between the vise jaws find each side of jaws and then use 1/2 function to find center of y

Unfortunately I couldn't do that as the ball on my edge finder was the same diameter as the part. Thanks for watching. ATB Cheers Nobby

can you edge find on the inside of vise jaws instead of on a round shaft? what is the advantage of this clamp vs adjustable one?

You can edge find from inside the vice jaws, provided there is room for the edge finders probe. One advantage of this clamp is that it only needs one threaded stud to lock it in place. Cheers Nobby
