Gotta love the old CP3 harmonic knock on the common rail cummins. Also, rough ride is definitely because of the wheel tire combo, not enough sidewall to dampen the road out.
After all the hard work you put into the Fummins, and since it's paid for, I'd keep it & upgrade it. Thoroughly enjoyed the Fummins build series by the way.
maybe a shock upgrade and different wheel tire combo it will ride better. the wheels look good but most of the time less rubber means less ride comfort. loud exhaust and big tires are cool until you do a 20hr road trip

Bilstein dampers and a higher profile tyre will make the truck much more liveable on a long drive. Add in some air springs, and fix the brakes with the transmission tune up will make it a much more pleasent drive. Good thing with the cummins is that parts are readily avaliable and there's plenty of aftermarket support to eliminate the issues and add more refinement to it with a new turbo and exhaust system that's not quite so loud.

I love the Cummins. You are the expert here. I appreciate your narration. Very interesting best!
5r110s are pretty solid. I’ve worked on ford diesels for years. Some of the state trucks have had 2 or 3 engines and have never even touched the trans.
I think you overlooked another option. You can make the Fummins much quieter by stripping out the interior (and possibly the dash) and installing some kind of sound deadening (Maybe more than one kind). You like to tinker and it would make a good video!
@MrMaxEffort
Жыл бұрын
That was my tought also, it's make a huge diffrent to the ride.. And probably a little quieter exhaust system..🙂
I would keep the Fummins but put more stock-ish wheels/ tires and quieter exhaust since it’s a long haul rig.
I'm happy to see the Fummins back in action. I had watched a couple of your videos here and there, but the Fummins build is what really got me into your channel. And I'm not gonna lie, I kinda fell off watching your videos recently, and now that the Fummins is back so am I. I'm invested in your content again. I don't really know why, I like drifting and fast cars more than trucks, content-wise and in real life, but there's just something about this Fummins build that keeps me coming back for more. Edit: I guess a manual trans dodge build would be cool. I know they also have a lot more issues with front end parts, tie rod ends, ball joints, that sorta thing. I worked with a dude a few years ago who had just bought a nice dodge, like a 2016, which at the time was only a year old and still under warranty. And he said every time he took it in for service it cost him a thousand dollars every time. So there's that. But I think that if I were in your shoes I would just continue building the Fummins. Yeah, there might be some challenges, but you have already put so much time and effort into that truck. And it's such a cool, custom build. There's a million manual transmission dodge's, there aren't too many Fummins. And the Fummins is going to give you more content in the long run because with the dodge you're just going to build the engine and slap some wheels on it. You can do whatever you want with the Fummins. And while it is more fun to drive a manual transmission, if you were ever to build the engine to over 1000 horsepower a built automatic transmission would hold up better than a manual. And if the 2020 is still under warranty I would keep it. Continue using that to tow your trailer while you build the Fummins into the ultimate long distance tow pig, and sell it when the Fummins is a complete, polished build that doesn't need any more upgrades or bugs worked out.
While the semi wheels add a unique and eye-catching touch to the Fummins, I can understand why some might think it would ride better without them. It's always interesting to see different opinions on vehicle modifications and their impact on performance. I'm curious to see how the Fummins performs after its restoration. Keep up the great work! 👍🔧🚚

Me personally, I think keeping the fummins would be super cool. Giving it the love it needs I think would help with a lot of the things that are positives of the newer Cummins! It's super unique and like you said you can fix it if need be. Maybe switching to a different transmission and going full standalone would help? Idk the answer but my vote is fummins!
I agree with everyone on the wheels. They look amazing, but to make the truck feel way more comfortable and useable, put some factory 17” wheels on it with factory size tires and it’ll tow and drive significantly better. Also, a large muffler and resonator for the exhaust would make it significantly more comfortable in the cab.
Man I haven't watch a video of yours since the last video of this truck, till now. Glad the ole beast is still around.
Ditch the wheel tire combo for taller sidewall and a much softer ride and tinker with the other nuances until sorted is my vote. Give the interior a refresh for really comfortable seats and a modern sound system. But if you go with something else I totally dig the manual trans idea. Drivers drive, its what we do.
After the whole incident that happened with the previous truck, I’m so excited to see the Fummins back in action
I became a fan of you because of this build. please keep it, it would be really cool to see how well this thing does if you put some more time and money into it

I'm excited for you. I literally just bought a 2016 Pearl White Laramie 2500 Megacab. I love it! I just don't do as much towing as you, so it suits me just fine.
Another option is to also sound deaden the interior, it’s a fairly inexpensive mod but makes a huge difference to noise and heat within the cab
@Taylordrifts

@macattack1392

@Taylor Ray he's right, Will definitely help. Just like the piping, u seen results instantly. Sound deadening will help ALOT! Maybe a sponsor will help out. Covering the Transmission tunnel, pillars, inside doors, etc. I've noticed a difference on my car when I did the underbody rubberized spray & cavity wax inside its sub-frames being full frame, spraying it would help- Plus it's protectant. I see a bunch of content coming on the fummins! Cant wait.
You should keep the fummins and 6 speeds swap it. You would have a damn good set up and most of all a really reliable set up
Keep the fummins. It'll be something you can be proud of making unique, and spend your time on the things in the trailer 😊
You want better ride, change the wheel/tire combo. Those tires are made for a much higher weight rating so they’re not going to “give” as much which will make for a rougher ride. But a light duty truck tire/wheel combo on it and a good set of shocks and that will help a ton!

What that truck came with really is ideal. I see a lot of hotshot guys switch to 19.5's like I run on my 550 and they are very good for mileage and durability but hard as stone. Those 22.5's he has are just such a bad idea.
old beats new any day of the week. You know the vehicle ins and outs. Its quirks and its habits. Keep the Fummins alive!
Best upgrade I did to my 2500 Ram was soft ride coils up front. Night and day difference. Rides great and tows exactly the same. Also best way to fix the auto trans issues would be a G56 swap. Would be cool to see you keep that truck and manual swap it.
Please, keep the Fummins. It is your work of art and you made it big with that truck.
Agree with most, super excited to see the fummins back! The ride would dramatically increase with smaller wheels and better, less aggressive tires, but its hard to beat the semi wheels :(
What I haven’t seen mentioned yet is if you have a more common street truck tire, if you have an issue on the road you have a better chance of finding a replacement at a tire shop instead of those low profile ones. Not to mention the acceleration and brake performance you would gain by getting rid of those heavy rims and adapters that is just extra rotating mass.
@matt.p8060

It is a street truck tire. They’re not semi wheel size. The 24”. I also have a full size spare.
@shawnm696
Жыл бұрын
@@Taylordrifts smart to have a full size spare on hand. That’s about the only way to go since the 24” is going to be very rare for a tire shop to have on hand. The handful of shops I worked at never had anything close to that tire ever. Too bad you didn’t make it to Texas. I just moved 20 mins north of the track. Oddly enough the Fummins build is why I found and subscribed to your channel. You’ll have to make it out here for another event.
Keep the new F350. All trucks break doesn’t matter what they are. Chances of this happening are slim and you do have a warranty. I could understand if they gave you trouble on the warranty. It could easily been a problem on the Fummins or a A different Ram that wasn’t able to be fixed on the side of the road and you been in the same position. It’s no cut on you and I mean no offense but I think you were expecting too much from a warranty/emergency situation if something had happened. You got the reality once something did.
Your truck is my dream truck. That same body style dually on semi wheels is just perfect
I really do like the drift car builds, but I LOVE the Fummins! It’s my favorite series you’ve done. You got so much accomplished in that tiny shop. I can’t wait to see what you can do with it now! Hope you can get out of the ‘20 Ford and come out on top.
I love this build but one thing a lot of people are saying is replace the semi wheels with a meatier tire and smaller rim combo more meant for heavy duty hauling. It'll lessen the strain on the the diffs, the engine itself, the transmission, and allow for a better overall towing experience. The big wheels look flashy, but are impractical for the application you are needing. Your build obviously, but that's just my experience from years of farm hauling. Love the video!

I like the Fummins but I do think a cummins truck would be a good move. Get something slightly newer with the engine you want and upgrade from there with some money you recoup from selling the Fummins. Regardless what you decide we will be here to watch along the way! Keep up the great content.
I think you guys should run through the upgrades on the Fummins. Build it up clean it up and upgrade it to what you want and give it try. Do some sound deadening, maybe look into suspension upgrades, and see if you can make it what you want. If it doesn’t work out then look into a 6 speed Cummins dodge truck
Man it would be really sad to see the Fummins go but you know we’ll be on board for whatever decision you make!
I think you should keep the fummins and address the issues you have. I would think the novelty of driving a stick would wear off pretty quick. Also check out Greg A he’s a Cummins guy.
I’m so glad your trending and growing I love this channel
Rock the Fummins Man, you did such an fantastic Build on it, one of a kind and parts you can get everywhere. If you breakdown im sure it´ll be up running with shoestring and gum and your mechanic expertise in no time. Can´t do it with an new truck of any make.
Definitely the Fummins. Its paid off, you know it inside and out and the gripes that you have with it are easily fixed. Regarding the shifting issue; I would personally go the HP Tuners route and see if it improves. Based on that, we can then have another conversation of how to move forward.
The fummins is why I started watching your channel, happy to see it back!
Nice truck, I'd definitely try a transmission tuner, the cummins has a different powerband than the PS. I'd also bag it, do the sound deadening and pull the belt off & spin the waterpump & tensioner pulleys, mine the waterpump had a tight spot you could feel when turning it by hand.
Love the Fummins! Add Sulastic springs to smooth out the ride.
Those 5.9 make great towing power with super low EGTs with a compound turbo setup. Worth looking into it if the Fummins is going to stick around.
Definitely keep the fummins. The truck itself has so much character compared to the new one. I mean it’s got a Cummins stuffed in an F350! Plus it would be cool to see content on this truck to see some upgrades and reliability upgrades :)
I used DCS to try and tune my 5r100 but didn’t like it at all, went with the Blessed tune 6.0 mildly raised trans shift points and love it! I’ve got a 24 valve ppump conversion swap with a custom 1600 low stall converter.
Hey man, I have the exact same setup as you (08 F350 with 03 Common Rail) I got a low stall converter and had my SCT tuned by Randy Gillam and it is night and day. Had the same 2-3-2 weird shift through 10+ tunes with DCS. Randy fixed it in one! The Ram trucks are great to drive but I’ve never had anything but bad luck with the front end, trans issues and the interiors have never held up. I think you’d be better off tuning this one, dropping to a smaller wheel to help with the ride and maybe some compounds or an upgraded billet turbo. Love watching your stuff. It’ll be awesome no matter what you choose.
My personal thoughts, manual trucks are cool as a novalty but when your running it as your main tow vehicle it soon becomes old. Also a bigger turbo with maybe some "less cool" wheels would make the fummins more comfortable. While it's nice to have a truck that hits all the spots, it's main job is to get you where you need to go comfortably and reliably.
love that this truck is coming back into duty possibly. i say don’t spend money on a new vehicle, rock the fummins and wrap the trailer black to match. it’s such a great build.
Love this truck! Keep the build going! 💪🏻🙌🏻
I’ve got the same truck, a 2008 F350 Dually with a common rail cummins. Mine has intermittent shifting issues and a flickering battery light which I have narrowed down to the Tach Adapter developing some corrosion inside (the tach adapter converts the Cummins signal to what the ford dash and pcm need for the tach to function properly). If it isn’t giving the PCM a proper tach signal it will cause it to shift poorly. I have the new one on order and am hopeful that fixes the shifting issue because when it is working it shifts great. I tuned it with HP Tuners and a tune from DCS. I was disappointed when you bought a new truck and parked this one, so am happy to see it back in the limelight. Gorgeous rig and awesome build. I believe the IATs will be lower with compounds🤔
Keep the fummins. It doesn't matter what truck you get there will always be something you don't like or something that could be improved. You have already put so much work into the fummins and it's almost there. Just fix the few things that need to be fixed and you will have a damn good tow rig!
One note on the which truck debate. The downside with upgrading the fummins is I need it to tow with. So I can’t have it down for a long period of time and do everything I want. So it makes it a bit trickier to do what I want to do. Would have to do it in short stages. And get over the worry of an issue every time.

work on it, easy to work on, parts are common. Plus a nice ride. Them tires do not help.
4th Gen cummins 3500 six speed is the move. More power, more comfort, not a swapped truck so parts are readily available, massive aftermarket support, and they’re tried and proven super reliable trucks, and when they do need work, they’re still easy to work on, and if it’s a job you can’t do while out on the road, it’s a relatively stock truck so you can just take it to a shop and trust them to get it sorted out because there’s not much custom work done to it.
We ALL want the fummins back. Plus it seems like its the best route.
I also want to add when I had my 5r110 tuned by dcs it did the exact same shift thing you're talking about! After randy Gilliam tuned it, it went away.
Going thru the fummins top to bottom and making her 100% would be awesome to see. Get everything sorted and maybe somewhere down the road get a manual 4th gen dually.
Keep and upgrade the fummins. Power, comfort and quality of life features. After upgrading the trailer to tailor to the features of the new truck, it would be a shame for that hard work to go to waste. Figure out a way to incorporate those features into the fummins, if possible. Also, the trailer with a black wrap would be baller!
Fummins builddddddd. Turbo, suspension upgrades, sound deadening and additional door seals for noise.
Love my 2018 2500 Cummins with the 68RFE (knock on wood) I tow 18k lbs with it. Ram Kelderman rear air ride (replaced coil springs) and it is as stable as my 07 F350 Dually was. I believe 19 and up Rams have the same injection pump as your 2020 F350 so I would stay 4th gen Ram if you go that route. Love the channel, keep it up!
Taylor, keep the Fummins man. Its a great back up unit and quite frankly its one of the coolest builds on this channel. You can even throw air suspension on it and get away with keeping the current wheel set up on it (which I think looks amazing) while maintaining good ride quality. KEEP THE FUMMINS. Plus lets be real..this truck would not have broken down how your 6.7 did...
go back to a 18” wheel and normal size tires, better fuel economy. some aftermarket coils and bags for better ride alongside the tires. . get some 40% overs and a set of towing compounds. you’ll be very happy with that fummins.
I knew you would come back to the old girl!!! All the new trucks are JUNK SIR
May have already been suggested but check the belt tensioner on the truck for the squeak. I worked on school busses with Cummins engines and they always made a racket before they went out!
I really like the manual G56 behind my Cummins. Not much shifting once you're at highway speed.
Another way to improve the ride is go to a smaller rim so you have more side wall
I'd keep and modify the fummins tbh. As a big truck guy that truck is also way cooler. But on a practical note, you built it and know the truck better than anything. I would do the manual nv4500 swap, and it would be bulletproof. Loosing the center console kind of sucks, but see if you can find someone to build you a custom center console to keep your cup holders etc instead of going back to the old style.
I have 2018 ram 6.7 g56 3500 big horn CRW LB DRW. If your looking for a truck you can’t have mine but as far as maintenance goes it has been great. If you looking for a manual ram the last year they made the manual ram was 2018 to help your search results. Mine is tuned on dsp5 switch by duramax tuner. With emissions still intact, And she gets down. Before I had this truck I had a 3/4 ton 2500 with helper bags and spring and the now 1ton truck rides nice in tow (very confident/ comfortable) and is not bad to drive daily as I do (my 3/4 ton was way rougher of a ride). I’ve done a twin disc clutch, tune, intake, and a few other odds and ends but over all it has been great!
I like the idea of building up the fummins! You’ll always have the option to buy a Cummins truck. Also, you’d have a lot of content on the upgrades for the fummins. The customization for the fummins is unlimited.
I think I would rather get the newer dodge with the stick shift, more power and comfortable for long trips
Any truck you get can break down regardless, don’t give up on the ford just for one set back. In the long run you’ll be way more comfortable in a new truck, plus once the warranty is over you free to do whatever you want with the ford.
@thepeeve
Жыл бұрын
Not really. The CP4 is absolute junk and cannot be trusted. And you can’t put a cp3 on it since it would void the warranty. I wouldn’t touch a cp4 truck with a 10 foot pole if I want to keep a warranty
I own a 2013 Ram 2500 Cummins, I absolutely love it. It's an automatic, the 68RFE is a joke as you know. I was a Ford guy my whole life, but time and experience have changed my mind, I'm a pretty big fan of the Ram. I plan to either swap in the manual transmission or an Allison, there are some really good swap kits out there. I think the driveability of the 24v vs the 12v would be significant enough for you to consider the Ram. I love your Fummins build, but I really think you'd enjoy the experience of a Ram. Also there would be tons of upgrades and modifications that you'd want to do on the Ram, tons of fresh content there!
Just an observation but it looked like the old filter seal was left in the pump. Also if you still fight the trans tuning, you can always keep thr 5r but run a PCS controler as a standalone TCM. I would recommend a clutch refresh and upgrading at least the direct drum to hold 6 clutches vs 4 as thats a common failure point in the 5r.

I noticed the same thing about the trans filter seal, dunno if the old one had a black one vs orange on the new, or maybe Taylor didn't film it, but it looked to me like the old one didn't come out with the filter (4:42).

I've used the PCS transmission controllers before and they worked well on the 4L70e.
Taylor there has been major improvements in trans tuning for these trucks over the last year. I can’t remember who did your trans tuning but there is 2 guys that have it figured out. My 2010 with a 5.9 has never been as good as it is now

I also did a 2010 and 06 24 valve, who else tunes these swaps? My trans shifting absolutely sucks..

@@Ace-nd6kk I'd also like the contact info. 2010 F-450 6.7 Cummins and the tuning blows

Do you have their contact info. I have a 2010 F-450 with a 6.7 Cummins that shifts terrible

I went with a tune for the 6.0 powerstroke from Blessed Performance on my 24 valve 2006 f250 Cummins swap. Shifts like a stock truck.

@ryanweaver3615 did that get rid of the flare shifting? Did you ask for 3rd gear lockup or can they offer that? I wish I installed a lower stall converter when I put the engine in. I have not been happy with this tuning since I built it something like 10 flashes still sucks., pisses a guy off after paying 7 plus grand for the conversion kit from dcs.. im trying a second round of trans tuning with them, and maybe they can ask blessed what they are doing..
I really like the idea of selling the new truck, selling the Fummins, and getting another Cummins that you can work on. Probably something like the F80 that had a small issue that needed to be fixed. Make a build series out of it to have it start making you money, and BOOM a noice 6 speed with an engine brake dually Cummins with everything you wanted and more because you don't have to worry about warranty crap

ok
This truck is so much want. So much goals.
Love the Fummins!! Please keep it and upgrade it!!! I built my 7.3 dually at the same time you built the Fummins so I love watching you work on it which makes me want to work/upgrade my dually.
IMO the tow rig is the one you want to get as close to ideal in stock form as possible. I'd say the dodge with a Cummins you can fix/ maintain yourself is the best option especially from a comfort perspective. Could even choose to do a cool video on sound damping, audio enhancements, trailer mods, etc to make it the best long haul rig possible.

But it is stock, just different stock. A dodge with a cummins and the fummins is essentially the same thing, well the fummins don't have dodge electronics or craptastic transmissions or blown out dashes! But there is no difference in going into the store and if engine related saying 08 dodge, if the rest 08 Ford. We won't mention how "stock" has many downfalls and a lot left to be desired, Upgrades and updates are a must (and deletes!) Or get a F650 and it has a cummins from the factory! 🤯 Also where he is located he honestly probably has a better chance getting a upgraded part from a shop if anything happens than anthing "stock"
Cool device, I really like this model, revive and update.
Keep the fummins and make it better! Fummins is soooo sick!!
Id keep the fummins since you know it inside and out, upgrade it performance, ride, heck even trans then you got it sorted it hasnt let you down yet and you built it for towing reasons, and if it does break you can fix it in a parking lot
Think about how excited you were to drive the truck for the first time again man, idk if it’s just me but I always regret selling vehicles that excite me like that
Glad you are bring the Fummins back
Maybe go back to a nice set of stock tires for the long trips and throw in some feature comforts i.e. jake brake, air ride 🤔 but if you must replace the fummins make it a good one 👍
My advice is maybe stay automatic. Just imagine a long day of driving, you’re sunburnt and exhausted. Sometimes you just want to kick on the a/c and have your automatic truck to drive back.
go all in on the fummins!! I am a chevy truck guy and ford car guy. But I enjoyed the build and you know what you have, also the new trucks are just too expensive unless you buy a work truck. Even then many of the covid chevy trucks were dealer upgraded W/T customs.
I LOVE this truck so glad it’s back
Oh, how long I have waited for this video ! Also… the 5.9 Cummins engine bays look soooo good when why are cleaned up painted and wire tucked.
The kicking in and out of gear sounds like a tps and the squeaking may be a cooling fan bracket. Grab the fan and see if it has any up and down play. Great video man!
