Heard back from AWE on the integrated tips issues today - they explained it as the clamps potentially being welded at the wrong location on a batch of the tips and are sending replacements of the same type (none of the previous external clamps / old design available). I'm hoping not to have the same issue, but I'm also not holding my breath - at least I'll have 8 to hopefully get 4 working. Got an STI two weeks ago and have really enjoyed watching your channel the last few months and helping to make the decision. Already have boxes stacked up and the first item was the catback exhaust. Keep up the great videos!

Glad to hear they are jumping on the issue. It really is a great sounding exhaust and wish I had a different experience, but too many nuisances to deal with on this piece to keep it on the car. I am happy to hear my videos have help you in your journey! Enjoy the new STI in good health.

Man.. sorry to hear about the tough time with them. I waited a long time to get my touring edition in with the black tips. Fitment on my ‘17 WRX was literally perfect from the start. I think they stick out a little farther than yours do though. The gap is so close on the tips to bumper but shake it around and it never touches. Second guessing the clamps though since I may order the track edition swap in the spring and saw that the ones it came with broke for you.

Unfortunate since I wanted to like it. It sounds great, but with all the nuisances I’ve dealt with, it just doesn’t make the cut for me. Definitely recommend picking up some stronger clamps as the ones that it comes with will break fairly easily if you intend on swapping.

2:45 I can confirm that they bent on mine. The last tip literally stripped. It's on and hasn't fallen off but I've got to adjust that side after putting in the GS adapter for my exhaust leak and I'm scared to death that if I touch it It's over. I love my AWE touring, but I'm with you. Why didn't they stick with the clamps?

  • @TheSwampDonkey
    @TheSwampDonkey2 жыл бұрын

Agreed, AWE needs a better system on the clamping aspect of the tips. I am sure you have reached out. I would be inclined to ask for replacements on the old style if they still have them. Aside from that, the height looked good. Hope you can get AWE to sort it out.

This is unfortunately strike 4 for the awe exhaust for me. Exhaust leaks, poor fitment, poor hardware, and now left with my hands in the air on the replacement tips. I love the sound of this thing, but it keeps finding ways to make me want to remove it off the car.

@@Scoobyfreak86 I hear ya and totally understand. I suppose if it was me, I would ask myself if I loved the sound that much after fixing the exhaust leak, and all of the other issues you have experienced, what would fix the tip issue and if AWE provided a solid, easy, permanent solution, would I keep the exhaust. After seeing all of the different exhausts you have went though, I would give it one last shot because finding that sweet sound can be a challenge.

@@ekssray Fujitsubo, the brand that STI Japan uses for their motorsports racing. They are probably the best exhaust maker in Japan and it shows by the reputation they built. It is surprising that brands like Invidia and Tomei, which outsource all of their steel/titanium manufacuring in China, is a more popular option in the US.

These are the kinds of stories that kept me from buying the AWE...I kept hearing too many quality issues. I had heard about the black finish on the tips coming off, multiple stories of exhaust leak issues, and now this. Really sucks because it sounds amazing and no drone...I ended up going Tomei Ti because I heard nothing but good things about the quality, plus it's cheap, super light, and it sounds incredible. I was really hoping you would allay my fears of AWE's quality issues with your videos, but sadly I think I'm going to look elsewhere when I replace the Tomei.

Longer exhaust hangers should fix this issue. Edit: just saw that the longer ones you’re using appear to be really soft. You’re going to see more rubbing with those with that small of gap. Any bumps in the road will make those tips contact the bumper. Look into the Grimmspeed longer exhaust hangers. They are stiff which won’t allow much movement.

Agree with you. It really shouldn’t be that difficult. I got my AWE touring a couple weeks ago and wondered why my tips looked different then others (Turns out I got the new redesigned tips). 3 of the tips I was able to tighten really well, however like you, only one tip needed to be super tight in order for it to stay on securely.

Seems to be the common issue with these. The driver side fits excellent, but passenger side is just not angled right. The bend need a few more degrees and the hanger needs to be angled up a tad. AWE does make good sounding exhaust, but they have terrible fitment imho.

After my experience, this is accurate. Wish they would r&d the fitment a bit more to get it 100%.

@@Scoobyfreak86 Yes, its been an on going issue with their exhaust not just only on our platform, but on some euro cars as well. A good alternative to this exhaust is the ETS Extreme.

The solution is to don’t buy Awe period. If you weld the tips, then you can’t swap track to touring. That’s one of awe selling points. From experience, the muffler didn’t fit the y piece and the clamps were the wrong size. Now after watching your video it’s a huge mistake awe decided to weld clamps onto tips. Stay away from awe, way to many issues. 🤮

Super disappointing. Just like my scenario I commented about in your last video. You would definitely think that this system would have a better method to put these tips on considering it costs $1300. Get them all welded on they’ll never come off then haha

For sure. That would be the solution, but I asked myself how many modifications do I need to make to get it to work the way it should from the start? Just seems excessive when something of this caliber should come with a+ fitment off the bat.

So dont buy AWE. Got it. These quality control issues are not inspiring. My Invidia R400 went on like a dream, had to re set it once but my GS Downpipe didnt cause any issues. The tips were single walled but it still looked like a work of art. Sorry ur experience isn’t awesome man

If you can get passed the fitment and q/c issues, it’s a worthy buy. It sounds great through.

In my useless opinion, don’t get a Tomei. Your car is too clean for one rice cannon and then and empty space on the other side.

Honestly starting to hate my awe track edition because the passenger side keeps falling out of the oring. It was completely snug with install and now it falls out everyday when I put it back in and snug the oring down.
