Fixing my broken casters -- surprisingly easy (WnW #29)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I recently posted a quick video showing how my nice double-locking casters on my fliptop planer stand were falling apart.
Here is a quick and simple follow-up to that video. Thanks to a viewer suggestion I realized that changing the wheels on casters was really very simple. This saved me a lot of time and some money to just buy cheaper fixed casters and swap the wheels. If I'd known where to quickly buy just wheels then I could have done that also.

denis daurer I should have just emailed and asked instead of guessing on the video... Up here in Canada we are always sensitive to the existence of Quebec, and the different pronunciations therein. thanks again!

+wordsnwood "Sensitive to the existence of Quebec." I don't know if you meant for this to be funny but I had a chuckle. It's a great way of putting it.

Good thinking, admittedly I probably would have replaced the whole caster and not just the wheel. Nice easy/quick fix and GREAT cart by the way. I will be making one very close to yours.

I know this is a totally unrelated question to the topic of this video, and I know that you are in Canada, but I was wondering if you could tell m e where you buy reasonable quality MDF sheets? I am having trouble finding any and want to build a disc sander like in one of your other videos.

Travis Fontaine I'm not really the right guy for this, as I personally don't like MDF and avoid it where possible. The MDF disk I used on my disk sander was just a piece of MDF shelving that I got at the local big box home center. I see lots of 4x8 sheets of MDF at Home Depot and the like all the time.

Steel casters best for heavy items that sit around in your shop.

don't throw those rigid caster rigs away. you can make a couple of wood wheels and use the casters for some light duty project (like a patio cart)
