Fixing ford half track and test drive!

Well we got the half track going and took it for a test drive in the mud! Hopefully we can keep it going…

Nice tractor. The Chinese carbs are ok if you need to get something going, but the original rebuilt is the way to go.

Some of your problem is the Chinese carb., It's not for the "Jubilee" that you have, but rather for a 2N or 8N. Order a proper carb kit for your old cast iron carb and rebuild it. The exhaust elbow should be the post 58 2-inch to fit properly. Clean and coat your fuel tank, and this will do yeoman work for many more years. I had "Arp's" half tracks on a Massey Ferguson 35, approximately the same size, and power. Unlock your brakes so you can brake individual rear wheels to make skid tight turns. Have fun!

You're half right . The other major problem is that most american companies don't have enough pride in their work to continue to make parts for their old products on a by request basis . About the only exception to this that I can think of is john deere & caterpillar who will reverse engineer a broken part if you send it to them and can afford to pay them for the time & materials to do so .

A most unusual device; never seen a set-up like this in Australia. We mostly don't have snow but do have high rainfall and hilly areas which are farmed so plenty of need in the day. One would think the extra power needed to drive all the tracks would limit the work uses a bit; mowing and raking rather than tillage. Good for rotary hoes though. Really good channel; honest, enthusiastic, shows it as it is! Thanks from Eyre Peninsula, South Australia.

Their is a screen on the inside of the tank. The tank always feeds off of the bottom. That screen often get plugged with rust and crime. AKA the settlement bowel. Fords solution. Get the grime and water at same time. Use your air compressor, on the fuel line and blow out that screen on the bottom of the tank. Make sure the fuel is turned on when you do this.

So we’re usually in snow. Not at lot of sinking. But they don’t like reverse. I noticed yours brace to the rear. Our brace to the front. We run a small maple business south of Ottawa. The farmall pulls a wagon with a tank on it. Works perfect.

Ohhh you aren’t that far from me then. Ya iv noticed it doesn’t like to reverse to far it will try to throw the track lol I wasn’t sure if that’s a adjustment I need to work on or if that’s just what they do lol. But I’m glad to hear they work well anyway! 😊

Love the half track. I grew up across the street from one of them used to clear snow at a dairy. I have a ford 8n. I can tell you from my experience that those plastic in-line fuel filters don’t allow enough fuel to the carb from a gravity flow tank. Try removing it if your next fix doesn’t work.

I always have problems with the screen on the bottom of the tank. I never want to take the tank off and clean it out right. So I blow air back into tank and am good until. The last part of this video. :-)

Sometimes a little impromptu machine work is in order. Neat trick with the file. You could take it off and do a proper repair later. Dress it up with a grinder etc... My brother has two of those China carbs on Farmall and Deere tractors and they seem to work well so far. Make you a flange and a piece of black iron pipe elbow for the muffler mount. I hate working in damp cold weather.

Like your ford half-track would have loved to had something like it at my grandparents ranch in Southern Oregon winters made our ford 9N's slip and slide. as for skidding logs out we used the draw bar and put actual chokers on the back since grandpa was a logger made it way easier to skid logs out to cut.

Just stumbled on the channel, and I definitely enjoy the breath of fresh air with the differences between your channel and others. Only other comment I've got is that while I do think it'd look nice repainted, I do think even just a clear coat would look nice to preserve the patina it's got going on. Sure it's a little rough in spots, but I just think it looks cool with it not being all dolled up like a show tractor, especially with it being a half-track. Either way, it's yours to do what you want to it, and I'm sure it'll look good no matter what you do with it.

I had an old farm all that had the 5' 10" rear tires on the back and the tricycle front tires use to take it 4 miles on this old logging road where four wheel drive trucks wouldn't do good at all.we used to drive the tractor 🚜 all the way to the end and by the way there were trees on both sides at the end was the marsh and we'd go 🦆 duck hunting. Never had a problem she'd dig right through.

the best way to seal that carburator on would have been to remove the studs from the unit itself and drill out the threads and mount the nuts underneath, then offer it back up to the manifold studs in place, and then flood weld the bolts into place on the manifold.

How in the world does a carburetor below the intake manifold work? It must be anti gravity. Lol not 😢

  • @4Dan21

    @4Dan21

    7 ай бұрын

Lol it’s an updraft carburetor. The fuel is drawn into the carburetor by the vacuum created on the downstroke of the piston. When the air accelerates through the Venturi, it makes a low pressure area and the speed of the intake air increases, the speed causes the air and fuel to mix and vaporize 😊
