Thanks for watching. This Ryobi trimmer was in storage for a few years and now it will not start. We had to fix a lot of stuff and replace of stuff that was missing. The best part about this trimmer is that it has push button start. Unfortunately it didn't come with a battery so we won't be using this time.

Good job explaining everything about the engine running rough. I moved about 5 years ago into retirement. I stashed my Ryobi weed wacker away in my wood shop and recently saw it sitting in a corner looking very good. I had not run it for the last 5 years. It started on the first pull for 2 years about 7 years ago, and now I am replacing the same parts as you did on yours. Before I moved it ran like a fine oiled machine hopefully I can get it to run like that again. I will let you know after I finish replacing little stuff on it. It is heavier than I remember. Talk to y0u soon brother. Thanks for the video, you gave me inspiration to fix it again.

Fantastic video! Great step by step explanation of a carburetor repair for a Ryobi string trimmer. I'm currently fixing 2 Ryobis, a 30 and a 25 and both carbs are pretty similar to your video but the 25 doesn't have hi/lo screws for carb adjustment. Love the spark plug analysis and compression test, first time I seen those on youtube.

Great video : ) I bought my Ryobi "Extend" trimmer 6 years ago. It's been a very reliable tool for edge trimming, weed trimming, Blowing off the sidewalk, and roto-tilling. I finally had to rebuild the Carb and replace the fuel lines as they rotted apart just this year (2021). Still works AWESOME... I would highly recommend Ryobi products.

Thanks for this video. I've had a 4 cycle C430 Ryobi for about 12 years and up until recently it's worked like a champ & taken a few beatings along the way. It was starting but then dying while running. I replaced the fuel lines because the filter came off, then I had to replace the oil pan because it cracked, then it would start but die in idle. I was about to throw in the towel and just buy a new trimmer but I'll try the carburetor first.

Yes I would swap a new carb in first. If the fuel filter came off then some debris may be clogged in the inlet screen inside the carb. Thanks for the comment

Superb video! I couldn't find my mixture screw(s) for nothing until I saw this video. I didn't have a Pac Man screwdriver so I used an amphenol (electronics wire harness) screwdriver instead. It's a hollow type screwdriver if you're not familiar with it. Now it runs as crappy as it always did - but at least it runs! This is my second Ryobi weed whacker. There's just one problem. My first one was 4 cycle. After 1 or 2 seasons I thought I'd change the oil in the new Ryobi. That's when I figured out the new one was a 2 cycle. Now you know why it runs like it's got a "miss" in the engine. To its credit , it still runs after many years of use. I guess I'd buy another one if needed. I've only had to replace the string hub once as well as one or two bump knobs but that's natural wear & tear.

I picked a 4 stroke 30cc trimmer up next to a trash dumpster a month ago. Apparantly the original owner couldnt put up with the temperment. I stripped it all down and am in the process of making a gas powered longboard. I'll reuse the cyntrifical clutch, pull starter but will rig a direct drive belt to the skateboard wheel and make a supertrap style layered exhaust pipe. I'll use a thermos for the fuel tank. A hand heald cable throttle. With correct gearing i should do about 25mph!

After my second power head in as many years, I bought an echo. I kept both power heads. After watching this I feel brave enough to attempt a cannibalization effort, maybe salvage one of them. Honestly I've used the heck out of them. Pole Saw, Edger, Weed Wacker and Bush Trimmer/Hedge Trimmer. I've worn each of them out in literally one year. They are probably fine, just needing regular maintenance that I've neglected. (but in just one year?)

I appreciate your video and thanks for your thoughts. I don't think I would push for a ryobi but I thought I could get mine to work. It originally would crank but not run for more than 10 secs. I noticed my fuel lines were bad and need replacing so I just did the whole kit exchange-new fuel lines, filter, carburetor and now it won't start at all. I have a 2 cycle gas trimmer/edger. I was told with new carburetor shouldn't need adjusting, not sure if true or not but either way it wont start with new parts. resistance on chord but will not begin to crank. just curious what next steps you would consider?

after repeated failed attempts to start a trimmer , it will typically flood. let the engine dry out and then try to start it again. No, sometimes the carb needs to be adjusted , because the carb is new, but the engine is not.

BUT the high frequency noise of the 1200W electric Line Trimmer made my neigbour yell at me to stop using it. Good luck finding the battery for them. The good news is its a simple positive negative system. I have the leaf blower that looks like new. I intend to use a Lithium battery on it using a simple conversion wiring with a fuse to prevent burnout. As its a 12 volt system and 1500 MAH any RC plane battery should do it. I had no idea they sold a weed eater too. My son in law gave me the blower, it's like brand new.

I have been able to get most older Ryobi's running again, regardless of age. Sadly, the battery start system was a gimmic and didn't last long. Lithium took over shortly as did 4 stroke engines. Well, interesting vid, I have 3 plus one spares 26cc and 3 30cc, i just buy any going on the market for 20-30 quid. then all the parts you need for the good runners are there. carb, piston, spark, starter coil, starter pulley the lot! takes about an hour or so if you know where you are going with it. I love messing about with mine, although I don't like to hear the chicken chaser setup (extreme high revs) if you see what happens inside then what come from inside to the outside, play it safe and get them running sweet. I usually take 2 of these bad boys on jobs with me. 1 to strim and the other to cut bushes or do pruning. if 1 fails I have the other as a backup. I did have a case just the other day where 1 died (vexed me) and then the second one decided to snap the starter cord..... Left me in the SH**, but managed to tell the client and return the next day for finishes. YUP I lost monies a little, but those machine cost me about 60 to buy, and have made a hell of a lot more. and I love fixing them ( it vexes the wife, so I am happy) Peace out dudes.

I would recommend Ryobi - but only if you know how to do repairs. They are abundant on curbs and recycling centres as no shop will fix them - not financially viable. By the way, I had the same problem with a Ryobi with the same carb and engine (not electric start though) - take the high speed screw out completely and blast a shot of aerostart, degreaser or the like with a small pipe nozzle. In my case, that cleared the blocked hi speed nozzle. Goes well now

The most common issues with weed trimmers that sit up,"or sit in the elements that are really not mentioned,'As we may know that is more mentioned',low compression, and the carburator gumming up..even replacing the carburator and trying to adjust it sometimes will still get some bogging at open throttle, stalling or surging, they are other factors that contribute to that is the Coil"even if it sparks! The ignition can still be weak, when the spark plug is inside the engine under compression is when the spark becomes weak if the coil is bad..get specs, and check the ohms,if the resistants is too high above specs the engine will be hard to start, and flood very easy, also crank shaft seals dry rot,and want hold back pressure to allow the spark plug to ignite the fuel 90% it will not start if thats the case..also carbon build up in exhaust or muffler aswell.

I bought a new carb and replaced fuel filter and tubes. Also new sparkplug. Still won't start.

Try starting with no choke and full throttle. If it doesn't start then put some fuel into the carbs throat and try starting it.. if it still won't start Check the compression

While you did get it running in the end, not sure if i agree with your trouble shooting and repair process. Seeing as you had the tool i would have done a compression test first, easier to do than taking off the carb and would tell you if its even worth putting any parts or time into it, seeing as you ended up checking it anyway. Nice video anyway

Thanks. Most people don't have a compression tester so I don't do it first.

@@HomeGaragechannel you know how you would say that if something lost compression you would have to get a topping kit like a rebuild kit for an engine

oh I see, the cost for the kit could be anywhere from $50 to $100, most people wouldn't bother, I you want want to look it up, have the model and serial number ready and go to Ereplacmentparts dot com

@@HomeGaragechannel So what do u suggest to me? At idle state it works until I speed it up. It's bogging down and goes off. The engineer turned the two bolts a couple off times, I used it for 5 minutes each time, and it went off again. Shall I add more fuel at idle, or adjust the throttle by turning the H anticlockwise (to the left)? Thanks for the valued information u give to us!

@@geolous4966 yes turn the H screw out a little bit more and again if you have to. However if you keep turning it and it still does it again you might need to open the carburetor and take another look at the metering diaphragm. It might be flexible not it might be just still enough that it runs out of gas after a few minutes
