XR350 has always been one of my favorites! Since it's been sitting for so long, check the wheel bearings, swing arm bushings and suspension linkage bushings, check the valve clearance, etc. Don't forget to put a piece of rubber breather hose on that fuel tank cap, otherwise you will get water in the tank. Other than that, you've got an original gem! Great video!

Thank you! I appreciate the tips!
As a 14 year old boy in 1985 this was my dream bike (I wasn't tall enough or experienced enough to ride a CR500). Honda's have always been my favorite brand of motorcycle. Glad to see one of my dream bikes coming back to life!

I wish they still made great bikes like these. They are hard to find in good condition anymore!
I had the 83' 350, was blasting down a road whilst is was unregistered, cop pulled me over and fined me like a hundred bucks. I never paid that fine, that was like in 1991 hope there is a statu.......(just looked this up>>> Each Australian territory has a statute of limitations. The set time limitations for most of the summary offenses within the Australian jurisdictions range from 6 months to 12 years......................WOOHOO!

That’s a crazy story! Glad you didn’t have to pay that fine!
Wait a damn Minute! I just realized this is your third video! Great job, very well put together. Would love to see more of the work you did. Like for example when you cleaned the carb all we saw that you took i apart but not how you did it. But all in all very nice!

I will definitely add that going forward so you can see exactly how I clean the carb and adjust it. Thanks for the feedback!
be careful with the purple cleaners on raw aluminum - don't let it sit for more than 5 minutes or it will start to oxidize the metal - makes swingarms look like crap

I didn’t know that. Thanks for the tip! I’ll be sure to wash it off quickly in the future👍🏼

Yeah, Superclean is very corrosive on aluminum. Once it eats into the metal, it’s very hard to get the finish back.
These are the BEST mid size XR

Chaulky plastic will come right back with a heat gun be careful though not to melt it.

I have used a heat gun many times in the past and it does the trick. A torch is a bit quicker if you have one
You should put some oil down the cylinder before you kick it over, especially when it’s been sitting for years
Great bikes my mate had a couple of these we used to hit trails on em in the late 80s /90s in the uk i remember the lil bag thing behind the seat quite reliable bikes if i remember too .

@Pickup_Projects it's crazy the amount of stuff I used to pick up back then I had bout 15 bikes in my front garden all ready to go id get my fuel can and go camping out places in the 80s my fave old bike was my yammaha 175 trial bike and my trusty trail cub both modded up long before it was fashionable lol I had a cr 125 too but it allways broke down and was a proper beater of a bike .
I had an 82 XL250 that just wouldn't die. I always lusted after the RFVC bikes!

Great bikes these (my avatar is me sitting on mine) - well worth restoring or at least bringing up to a decent condition. My one was 1981 and was a twin carb set up and was a bit of PITA - lucky to have a single carb I say! Anyway, good luck with it. Wish I still had mine.......

Good jop gringo ✌🏼👌
I cant remember what year's of the rfvc engine were recalled, but they had a major problem with starving the valvetrain for oil. Many heads were destroyed due to this. Honda fixed the issue at the time by running an oil flow tube to the top via cranckcase. You might want to look into that. Should be info on thumpertalk. Good luck

Have you ever ran across any 1980 yamaha 425 bikes? I have one but you hardly ever see one on you tube..

If you are referring to the Yamaha IT model, I have seen them but never owned one. There are hard to come by. They are sweet 2 strokes!

The gas tank will need to be wet sand but the rest should come out nicely👍🏼
You need a Real pressure washer . 11 hp is the way to go . Lots of pressure not too heavy . Mine took most of that white oxidation off the tank on my 84 xr250

I wouldn’t mind a bigger one. The one I use now, I got for free on marketplace and wasn’t running when I got it lol.
Did you check the oil? That should be first in the list
@Pickup_Projects
24 күн бұрын
I checked oil off camera but you have to let it warm up first anyways to get a good reading because the oil is in the frame on these models.

I forgot to mention in the video but the float needed to be adjusted
12:21 honda valdez you got there.......if that gas slick gets bigger, our govt might invade, carb needle not seating? smoking too, might need a valve adjust......great bike tho, hard to kill them
@Pickup_Projects
26 күн бұрын
The float needle was not closing all the way due to the float not set correctly. It wouldn’t hurt to check the valves as well if the smoking continues.
It's a honda put fresh gas in it ,ride it ,they are bullet proof.

Shouldn't be kicking that motor over after sitting that long. Your cam, rockers and rings are bone dry.
