Bad limit switches are often a symptom of an overheating furnace. Basically it fails from constant and frequent cycling. It's good practice to check the temperature rise while changing a limit to spot any abnormal operating conditions.

@UltraGamma25 well he is making videos of himself not doing a proper job. Probably carpet growing on the coil.

If the furnace and/or A/C was ran without a filter then the blower wheel and/or evaporator coil is likely clogged with dirt/dust causing low air flow causing the furnace to over heat repeatedly causing that high limit to go bad. I would definitely check both of those along with temp rise but for a quick fix not a bad repair 👍

I was just gonna say that. And then the heat exchanger needs to be checked.

Defo check the upstream side of the A-coil. If it's OK and Delta is within spec you got away easy. A bad heat exchanger would likely trip the roll out switch.

Nice job 👍🏼. The fact that you guys cleaned the unit a bit after the simple fix gets a follow from me.

My dude, you missed a lot. With no filter the coil is likely clogged, causing the limit to trip. Pull the blower for cleaning, then look up thru the heat exchanger to view the coil and look for cracks. Good chance of cracks, then sell them a new furnace.

I guarantee there are cracks in that heat exchanger and its in the snap rings right behind that "faulty" limit switch

I would recommend investing in a borescope if you don’t already have one. Very handy to be able to inspect a heat exchanger to verify it’s not compromised especially at an older age as that unit. Bad limits are usually a sign you’ve got a crack or hole.

Ran with out a filter and the the limit switch is bad...I would be checking the evap coil to make sure that isn't clogged.

The company I work with offers a yearly plan, comes with 2 cleanings a year 1 heating and 1 Ac. Those cleanings save a lot of people money from these kinds of mistakes (no filter) 🤦🏿‍♂️just last week three of my customers have been running there units with no filter all the units were in the attic I convinced them to convert to a "permanent" filter and signed them up for the yearly plan. All three clean ups took me every bit of 1&1/2 hrs but this will save them time money and a headache in the future

Wondering if the evaporator is caked in dirt from not using a filter and the limit is tripping because it’s so restricted. Was this the fix or did it trip off again?

I hope to have even some of this knowledge as I keep getting older. Also congrats about your nephew! So exciting when a new family member joins the ranks.

Could you start showing more of your furnace service calls? Also, is there anyway that you could leave the problem out of your title - don't tell us what the problem was until the very end of the video? Long story short, I'm in school right now for HVACR. I love watching KZread videos of other service techs diagnosing heat pumps and gas furnaces, but I'm discouraged by the fact that I already know what the problem is before I get to the end of the video, because it's in the title or description. I love a challenge. Heat pumps and gas furnaces give me the opportunity to be presented with various problems (that are associated with these units), and to find the solution. Keep up the great work. 😏
