Works like a charm, like you said, once you fix it, you dont wanna touch the mobile version anymore cause it would mess up the tablet version. So folks should generally do this as the last step, meaning if your web is good, mobile is good, then do this finally and dont change. One thing I realise too is that you should not be scaling anything, and just moving things to reduce the gaps, making images larger would not work and mess things up. Making text box smaller is fine tho. Regardless, I would like to thank you for the free app, youre an absolute legend!

Bravo! This is extremely helpful. My website was such an eye sore when viewed on tablets. This cleaned it up a lot. One issue ive ran into is when switching images from "fill" to "fit" in tablet mode and then resizing to fit the layout brings crazy spacing issues to the mobile view. For now I've just switched it back to fill and need to figure out how to address the image zoomed in view on mobile.

Wow 🎉🎉🎉 well done chris. Way to see an opportunity to help us all and rise to the occasion. I though sqsp had said they’d fixed this though? Seems like now if they see what you’ve done and add the tablet view back into 7.1 (it was there in 7.0) and remove the issue of ruining the mobile spacing issues after we edit the tablet view. That my hope that they now grab the ball. BUT still think this is amazing and I’ll have to go look at the fluid engine sites I’ve updated. ❤😊

Yeah they implemented a change but it is still really bad. They have since said they are working on further improvements. Hopefully they will fix this and the extension won't be needed in the future!

To be honest I'm not sure. I think it also may depend on what type of fix they put in place. Using this extension definitely won't make anything worse when they implement a fix though. This just allows us to properly map the blocks to the grid so I'm leaning towards thinking that whatever Squarespace does in the future shouldn't have that much of an effect.

Nice work, just installed it! A couple of questions (not directly related to your extension, but seems relevant to ask :D) 1) Curious what are the most common devices that would fall between the 600px - 767px range? Looks like iPads are 787px + 2) Are you familiar with Responsively App? I don't have access to tablets to test, but how accurate is the simulation to real device behaviour? (I actually noticed from the list of devices in the app that none of the tablets are less than 787px, hence my first question).

Loving this tool. However, the one piece of feedback that I would like to share with you is that it works on tablet sizes that have a max. width of 765px. Other than that, I was able to fix the large space gaps. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for this very useful tool! This extension is a great help in correcting Squarespace web pages for Mobile view, and the ability to preview the Smartphone view is also very useful to compare how the corrections for Tablet affect the Smartphone view, which by the way is also relevant for checking the display of images. What I also learned while using the extension: If, after editing a page using the extension, you then correct it again with the extension turned off for Mobile, then not all edits made with the help of the extension are lost, but only those you edited recently. So this is not a general taboo. In fact, switching between the extension switched on and switched off can be very helpful for smartphone and tablet view optimization. At least, that's my personal experience so far. For me it's completely incomprehensible why Squarespace does not natively offer optimization for Mobile at 767 pixels width, since the breakpoint for Mobile is at 768 pixels after all. Correcting the rendering for Mobile at 430 pixels, as Squarespace currently provides, does inevitably lead to unsightly rendering in the 430 to 768 pixel range.

I totally agree!

OMG, I spent so many weeks working on my website. I went on Mobile, things didn't look right, I moved a new thing oh boy!!! smh lol Now I have to start over again...maybe 70% over. Thank you. I also noticed on the mobile view the space looks different. Is there a way to keep the space "aesthetic" the same but allow the designer to view the whole board? In the example you showed us the Google and Apple icons moved in and out.

When I try and update sizing of photos, text, etc, on the tablet view, my mobile view goes crazy, but these items have to be changed because they don't appear properly on the tablet view. Hi Lydia, the tablet view IS the mobile view, just a larger version of it. So the way you arrange the blocks using the extension is the way they will appear on mobile. It should just help with the odd spacing on those in-between screen sizes

I’m so glad I found this fix so thank you. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be working perfectly for me. While it works in the landscape view on my iPad, in portrait it reverts to a rubbish version of the desktop view with photos cut off. Any idea what’s going on?

Hi on my end enabled button is not working.how i can enable this app?

Great extension. In my case when it's on the Site Style's icon disappears, so I have to turn it off to be able to change Site Styles.

Yes, it was easier just to hide the site styles button when in edit mode due to potential conflicts. You can still access site styles with the extension enabled by going to design > site styles.

It's not perfect, but it does the job. Thank you for this extension!

Try waiting 5 seconds and then clicking enable. I hade to make sure the editor loaded before the plugin so I had to put a delay in. Let me know if that works or not. Also, unfortunately right now the only indication that it is working is the extra button appearing next to the desktop and mobile icon so keep an eye out for it appearing after you wait 5 seconds

Hi Chris. Thank you for the Chrome plug-in. I have tried to use it today and found it buggy so offering this feedback in the hope it helps. In particular, what I found was 1) Could not make a text box wider than the grid i.e. full-screen size. 2) Could not change the font size on some text boxes. The edit box appeared but when trying to select the font drop-down selector, the edit box disappeared. 3) Changing the number of grid rows could only be done by selecting Edit Section. The blue box with horizontal lines and up/down arrows appears but when you try and select it, it disappeared. This is what I found on my first try. Hope this helps and thank you for making this easier for all of us.

@@SEWebDesign Hi Chris. The updated plug-in works a treat! I do have another question with regard to a spacing problem I have come across that maybe the plug-in could help with? From time to time I need to update pages on my laptop which has a screen resolution of 1440px. The page update looks fine on the screen and when I use the plug-in looks great on smaller screens. However, when I look at the page on a larger screen - 1920px, the is now a lot of extra white space that makes the page look horrible! This means you can't update pages on laptops only desktop screens!! I can't find a way of removing this extra white space and have to wait till I get back to my desktop to fix it. Have you come across this issue?

@@robertcoleman8820 oh that is interesting! I haven't run into that before because I only edit sites on a big 4k monitor or my smaller one which is still 1920x1080. You might want to report that issue to support. The more people that complain about the spacing, hopefully the faster they will address it more fully.

@@SEWebDesign Just an FYI. Here is the Squarespace response. "As my colleague mentioned, the reason there is a gap displayed on larger desktop screens is due to both Squarespace's responsive design and the page width you have selected. A potential workaround is to adjust the page's width so that it's at an acceptable size for you in for both laptops and desktops."

@@SEWebDesign I'm using standard template blocks, fonts, styles (no custom CSS) and all of sudden (today) the majority of paragraph text jumped from "normal line spacing" to compressed. The lines of text are not overlapping, but just about touching the row above. This is impacting legibility and also creating additional spacing issues. Happy to send screenshots via email(?) Thanks for your thoughts! UPDATE: it looks like the spacing issue is only with "Paragraph 1" text. Other headings/styles seem unaffected.

Wondering if I am missing something because when I make my tablet edits, it screws up everything on mobile. Should the order in which I design be Desktop > Mobile > Tablet? I'm finding FE frustrating because I can't seem to get all three views looking good. Not to mention really large desktops. How the heck do you get a site looking good on every possible device size 😫. Not to just complain lol I really appreciate you doing this I think I could just use some pointers

This just makes the mobile view bigger which theoretically should help fix the vertical spacing issues. This doesn't provide an extra breakpoint for you to do different layouts. Squarespace only has two layouts: desktop and mobile. So this extension just replaces how you do the mobile view. Generally I find myself doing the pattern you describe though: desktop then mobile then turn on the extension and fix any vertical gaps on the wider screen size the extension provides.

I share your frustration with Fluid Engine, seems impossible to make things look nice on all 3 layouts, especially the tablet view. It's like you have to create a mediocre design that works decently on all 3 rather than creating the layout you want for each of the 3. Hopefully Squarespace will fix this in the future. Currently this is one of the big reasons making me want to ditch Squarespace.

It only works on Chrome browsers and also on Squarespace 7.1 sites. Once you install it you should be able to just click the extension to get it to work.

Not sure if I'm missing something but this extension is only letting me adjust the spacing of the mobile view layout, as it is. If I move any blocks around in the extension's new mobile layout those changes also show up in the "MP". Is that intentional?

Yes, this doesn't allow for additional block layouts, it simply fixes the spacing issues

Hi Chris - Brilliant again thanks for all your hard work - not sure if this is a slight bug - sometimes I cannot access the blue icon to make the section smaller - it shows up but when I move the mouse closer it disappears - so unable to make section smaller - not sure if this is happening with anybody else?

I tried adding this, but keep getting an error when I download the extension. This is what it says "Package is invalid. Details: 'Could not load icon 'images/FE-Icon-16.png' specified in 'icons'.' Is there any chance you can tell me what to change so I can use the extension?

I am not familiar with that error. After a quick google, I'm wondering if the file name needs to be changed. I'm not sure why this would only affect you and not others, but I have submitted an update to the extension for review on the chrome web store. So hopefully the new version gets approved soon and you can try again.

I downloaded the app and think it works great. Frustrating that SS doesn't feel the need for a tablet view. Tablet view is so basic.

Your iPad is probably larger than this breakpoint area. You probably need to change your buttons to fit instead of fill. Fill buttons always look bad on smaller screen sizes
