In this video I will show how I was able to fix my Ryobi cordless nail gun that stopped shooting nails for no apparent reason. I check all over to find what I could do to fix the no shoot issue in the manual and many internet posts. I finally found a forum where someone explained that by allying some lubricating oil to the push pin and the housing where it rests.
If you are frustrated by the fact that you purchased the Ryobi cordless nail gun and had not done much with it only to find out it stopped functioning properly. Or declined an in store warranty, or the in store and manufactures warrantys have both expired an feel you are stuck with a useless tool that check out this video before you throw in the towel. For about $3.00 at your local hardware store to purchase lubricating oil you can fix the Ryobi no shoot issue yourself.
I was unable to find any videos online that addressed this issue only unboxing and how to use Ryobi cordless nail gun. So that is why I wanted to share how you could fix this without needing to have the product remanufactured.

Exactly what happened to mine today. I haven't even finished the nails that were included in the box. Thank you for this video
You just SAVED me $100!!! I bought a replacement because mine stopped working. THANK YOU SIR!!!!
My nailer wouldn't fire, and no amount of cleaning or lubrication helped. Then I found an addendum to the manual on Ryobi's site, that said: "Under some conditions, the unit may not deliver a nail when the air pressure dial is turned to the MAXIMUM pressure setting. The user may need to decrease the pressure setting..." My pressure wasn't turned up quite to maximum, but it was close. And sure enough, when I dialed it back a bit, the nailer worked fine. (The air pressure setting is the large dial on the back of the nailer.)

Same as Venessa H, tried the oil fix, didn't work right away, dialed back the pressure and it started working. don't know which fixed it, maybe both?

Mine is brand new, but was not firing and had that sluggish sound. I had not used it when I bought it and it has just sat for a good while. I backed off the pressure, and it works! Thanks much.
I let mine sit for awhile , so I thought it was the Battery or just Junk that died on me. This fixed it. You are a Genius Sir
Wow! Worked amazingly! I already bought a Milwaukee FUEL 18ga Brad nailer to replace the Ryobi i thought was dead. I think I'll keep it anyway. 😂🤠

Well that's a really nice upgrade! Hopefully if you want to get that Ryobi back up and running this helps. Thanks for watching!
I followed the simple instructions in this video and resurrected my one year old Ryobi cordless nail-gun.
EXCELLENT THANKS FOR THE BEST ADVICE AND I NOW KEEP MINE IN A COOL BAG TO KEEP MINE CLEAN EVERYTHING IS GOOD FINGERS CROSSED
Thank you thank you! I was so frustrated that my brand new gun wasn't firing, and this solved the problem :)
Thanks Dave. I borrowed the same gun today from my brother in law. Could not get it to even feed a nail, let alone drive one. Watched your upload and realized that the "hammer/striker" was stuck in the forward position. A little lube and its working. Thanks so much for the post.

Pro tip! Use a much larger battery. Makes a huge difference with this situation as well. Had the full line up of Ryobi guns and heard that raptor noise many times. Slap a 4ah minimum battery and it will fire away.

Thanks very much KB! I can't believe I took it apart five times trying to figure it out and add oil like crazy and all I had to do was go from the 1.5Ah battery to the 4.0Ah battery. God bless.

@@guyrobinson7857 😂😂 yep!! It's crazy how a battery change can make it work so much better. It took me forever to figure it out also. It happens. I feel they should mention stuff like this on the box.

I have both the 16 gauge nailer and 15 gauge angled nailer. I've found that they both really like at least a 4 ah battery in order to work more reliably.
I was frustrated beyond belief! Thanks for saving the day!!!
And it's working perfectly!! Thanks for the video. Note to self: clean and lube it regularly.

I picked up this from eBay and thought it was a dud or sluggish because of the 1.5ah battery. Istumbled across your video looking for explanation for the beep. Afew drops of 3-IN-ONE oil in the spaces yoiu pointed out the gun sprang to life and driving 2.5 like it was nothing. Thamk you so much this valuable info. I'm certain many guns are being returned to Home Depot because of the factory lube drying up and being misdiagnosed as defective......good for me though. The gun as like new refurb was only $83.01. I'm a happy man now.

Thought my gun was broken thanks to you got it up and running
Just tried your suggestion...it worked!!! Thought it was done!
Thanks for the tip - I would say for those watching - if you are using this nail gun on a piece to be finished, make sure to avoid a silicon-based lubricant, as the nail gun will blast this onto the wood and may cause the finish in that area to fail.
Thanks Dave, It worked great. I'm a contractor and these Ryobi tools are awesome. Thanks for the easy fix!
I find oiling the striker once every two weeks keeps it work fine. Spray with WD40 to clean out debris and good oil to lube and it should keep working well.
Buddda Bing...my nailer now can sing...gunning like a boss...thanks!!
I wish I’d known this before I bought a new one. Luckily I still have my old one and thanks to you I just fixed it! 👍🏽
Thanks for posting this video. 1 less trip to the repair shop! Worked perfectly.
U saved me a trip to home depot thank u
*love you mate thanks for the video you save the day and stress come with it* ❤❤❤
TIM from Canada watching this video, it is much easier the way you do it by putting the oil on different spots other videos have it where you have to take that whole thing apart the way you do it is much easier, but this should’ve been cleaned out first damp ragand then a little air compressor
OMG!! Thank you so much!! I was able to fix it with your instructions! GOD BLESS YOU!!!!!

always clean and lube your nails gun after each no matter what kind it is.
Thanks. I has been using 15 g gun for couple of weeks and was thinking performing maintenance to prevent misfires. Whoever owns the firearms knows most guns have breakdown period. I would add my comment that before applying oil very good idea to blow air with a compressor or if you don't have one air duster can all dust, metal debris from the mechanism and run few nails continue blowing air. The other option is no oil but blow graphite powder in the mechanism like locksmith do with the locks, since it will prevent future dust sticking to the oil and making buildup.

Yeah, I had this issue with the narrow crown stapler, I used a dry oil (PTFE) to help prevent buildup. A wet lube is going to cause it to gunk up pretty quick.
Thank you so much man my Ryobi nailer is doing the exact same thing and you're fix works perfectly !!!
Thanks. I just bought one and will remember this for down the road.
Thank you for sharing this! I was able to finish my work on my baseboards and knotty pine beadboards, today because of your video! I should mention this was the first big job that my airstrike nailer had done since receiving it as gift at Christmas 2020!
I have one of these 18 gauge ryobi's ordered this is a tip I will remember thanks for posting.
This worked for me! Lubed the slides and all is well. Thanks!
Ditto! Thank you very much. My nailer is now a great tool again.
Thanks yes for this tip I’m having similar problems with mines nails not shooting nails haft way like the one you did thanks I’m going to now do this thanks
Thank you, this worked perfectly. I have a different model, but the same idea of lubing the track did the trick. I used 3 in 1 oil.
The new Ryobi Airstrike Pin Nailer has this in the troubleshooting instructions. They must have found it out. Having your youtube video about it is great. Luckily I found out on a forum and so when my brad nailer stopped working, I knew about it. But that's just hit or miss, whereas a youtube video is more targeted. It's really a maintenance issue, but because these are so different, many people didn't make that connection. I know I didn't.

This was brilliant! I was just about to buy me new ones. I salute you!!!

Thank you! That is so straightforward and to the point and completely resolved my issues with the ryobi cordless gun
Thanks you sir! I thought about moving the nailer but I wasn't sure that it was possible. thank you very much man!!

Thanks so much! You just save me $100. Works like new.
Have owned mine for over a year without issue. Glued something up and went to shoot the gun. Was able to get off 4 very weak shots before it stopped shooting. Was 22f here last night so thinking the cold and lack of oil might be the problem. Letting the gun warm up then will clean/oil it. Thanks for the video!

Do It With Dave It worked like a charm!
perfect! I bought both a P360 narrow crown stapler and a P325 16 gauge straight nailer used, from a local guy on craigslist - both were misfiring...until I oiled them just as you did. I already happened to have high quality sewing machine oil (for a JUKE 441) in my shop, with the long tube for precision droplets. Thanks for posting this video!
worked, thanks!
My Ryobi Air Strike stopped driving nails and thought I had to do this fix, but it seems that the nailer does not use the entire clip of nails. There will be a couple left over and then it will stop working. Insert a new full clip of nails and then you are good to go.
So this is very common apparently. Brad nailer did the same and I never abused it or used it much
You're welcome Dave. It was very helpful.Thank you again.
I got a brand new 18ga one and used it for about 12 2" and put it away after christmas. Took it out this weekend and would not fire, just a weak strike sound and no movement of the plunger/striker. Oiled after seeing these videos and nothing........Finally backed off the large pressure dial and it fired. I guess it locks up when all the way towards +. I used it with success through oak boards maxed out but it would not fire when picked up to use again. If you use a lot of oil down the channel it will collect more debris, try a little dab of gun grease smeared down it with q-tip.
Thank you I have a nail gun just like yours incase my stop working then I know what to do 😊
Thank you - mine doing same thing. Will oil it now.

Ty for your video My nails are stuck inside. Lube is needed
My push rod doesn't retract almost every time I use it. Have you had this happen? Any fixes?
It works! Thank you very much!
That worked great! Thanks for posting this.
I have not yet used a full box of nails and my gun will not shoot the nail fully into the wood. I have cleaned it and oiled it, it will work for a few nails then start giving me trouble again.
Thank you Dave. Perfect advice. Much appreciated

I agree, I'm thinking it's not because this is supposed to be an "oill-less" system. Thanks for watching!
Ryobi still has this problem on their Brad nailer seven years later they haven’t fixed a thing
Mine came straight out of the box not firing a nail, it leaves a small hole in the wall but no nail so the pin is not siezed
Man, that was it! So simple.
this was just what i was looking for!! thank you!!
Excellent breakdown. Thanks
You da' man!!... thanks for your video!!
Can I use WD-40 to lubricate?
Thanks a lot for the tip!
I'd probably opt for some graphite lubricant.
with the action open, mine will cycle the push rod just fine, but if the cover latch is locked closed the push rod will not retract. It has been well lubed with silicone spray, which did seem to loosen up the push rod. It will often shoot 1 brad if I manually set the push rod back and reassemble. what is wrong with it?
I lubricated, it shot once then stopped again. Swapped battery and now it’s working just fine. Old battery was the issue for me I think

I am a homeowner with a day job who does not do anything construction related for a living. That being said I am working on framing out my basement and Bought this kzread.infoUgkxHQsUrwNr5GQrnx9V4xDdUr56qxwuiBHt gun. I have done a few walls already, have probably shot a couple hundred nails through this thing and have yet to have a misfire. It works awesome, good depth on every nail if you have your compressor set right. My literal only complaint is that it is a bit heavy and my arm can get a little tired especially whrn I am nailing at odd angles. That being said I am super happy with it and would buy it again. Hoping the old girl allows me to get my whole basement finished out!
this guidance worked perfectly! Thanks

Would oil not just allow the sawdust to build up and eventually jam it? Would dry graphite now be a better idea?

To be honest I never owned a nail gun before purchasing this Ryobi. I wanted something portable with no need to run electric or hoses, and this was the only battery powered option at the time. I see other manufactures following in the footsteps and may have an overall better product but I'll hold what I got. The only thing that got me was the release of the same spec nailer but with an angle for better maneuverability a while after this one came out. Probably would have gotten that model if it was a option at the time. Thank you for watching and for your comment!
I wish i found this video before I returned this nailer. It can be frustrating when a tool doesn't perform as expected. The one I purchased stopped firing nails within the first hour of use, brand new out of the box, and I found that unacceptable performance for a $130 tool.

@@chanoaguilar61 I honestly don't know. If you do a Google search you may be able to find it. More than likely sometime the manufacturer doesn't want someone to buy. Planned obsolescence
Thank you very much is good to know this.
Just wondering if anyone else has a problem with this nailer constantly misfiring and jamming when using 3/4" nails? Does anyone have a reason / solution for this problem??
