    The way to prevent cross-threading is to turn the lens counter-clockwise (loosening) with a small amount of pressure until you feel the threads drop together. Then turn clockwise to tighten. Tightening without first finding the thread start causes thread strip.

    You are making a miracle for making a cloudy lens clear. As I was told that lenses should be cleaned by optical cleaning fluid, the additive of non optical cleaning fluid may caused fatal damage to glasses. As Windex is quite corrosive. Separation of cement glasses usually causing the cloudy lenses , it is quite doubtful that simply lenses cleaning can fix the problem.

    Again I have to say thank you! I had a Rolleicord from my uncle, and there was oil on the shutter blades. Your videos made me confident I could make it - and it really was not that hard! As an adjustible spanner wrench I used a pair of compasses, which worked great - and I have a perfectly working camera now. Thanks alot for your helpful tutorials!

    You are very welcome and a clever repurpose of a compass. As long as there is not a lot of torque needed they work well for a substitute spanner wrench.

    Yes, if you are very attentive to positioning that will usually work. Check your focus on bulb and ground glass. If ground glass is not available, a suitable substitute can be made with magic tape on glass or plexiglass. Just bought a baby grey rolleiflex with case, yellow fillter and lens cap for £68.99 in the UK on ebay . They are selling for typically around £200. It was spelt as rollieflex and didn't come up in a search for rolleiflex at all since there were a lot of words in the original descrip that threw any search off.. Its a thing to watch out for anyone if you're into buying cameras fixing them up and selling on. You need to find one that doesn't come up in a search with the right spelling. It seemed in good condition, the original price was £49.99 so other people had spotted it, but not too many. If it doesn't work I'm knackered but thats the risk you take. I 'm going to see whats good or not and then re sell it much more expensively with the correct spelling in the listing.

  • @FixOldCameras

    Fix Old Cameras has no experience with lighter fluid as a cleaner of optics so can not make a recommendation. However hydrogen peroxide will work as a fungus neutralizer but will not evaporate as readily as alcohol so extra care needs to be taken as to containing it to the desired application.

    All of the Rollei twin lens reflex cameras will have a front lens group and a back lens group with the shutter sandwiched between. However not all the lens groups will have spanner slots. Some Rolleicords will have spanner holes on the back group but no slots on the front group. The Rollei Magic has none on the front group or the back group. The diaphragm levers linkage plate, then will lift out. However, please note that this plate does require some timing steps to reinstall properly.The procedure would be suitable for a Fix Old Camera video

    Hi there, hope you can give me a hint, after a desperate inspection from a technician he discover where the light bleed in my rolleyflex 2.8 c did come from, when I pull the focus there is a wasted fabric between the lens and the camera corp that leave a gap (here is a pic www.videorebels.net/rolley-fabric-ruined.jpg ), I have no idea how is it attached to the lens, neither the name of that part (if somebody know please let me know). I cannot say if is possible to replace or not, if is glued or if just disassembling the lens should be possible to switch it with another fabric ..I doubt of this last option as the technician told me that seems impossible to fix it without an original piece. I respect his experience, but I wonder if maybe is impossible to do a perfect fix, but should be possible to do DIY that could hold decently, maybe something he wouldn't try cause is easy to fail ..of course I don't mind to pay if there is somebody able to fix it. I cannot find anything on internet, is strange because is a fabric and I suppose it should be common that get deteriorated after many years ..for the rest the rolleyflex work very well ..Now that I know the issue I guess it work better on infinite focus and terrible on portrait (bad news). Any tip of any kind for fixing it will be very appreciated, I'll try to collect as many info as possible before to do a desaster or a "miracle" my self :) but will still worth a try

    +Videorebels To repair properly the camera can be disassembled to access the light baffle tube and material sleeve. The front cover plate, the shutter assemble, the reflex lens assemble, the mount plate and the mount plate cover and various linkages will have to be removed to do this repair. If you want to avoid the disassembly procedure you can create an opaque flexible material sleeve the proper size and very very carefully glue it into place with two narrow beads of black 100% percent silicone sealer. A possible suggestion for a source for lightweight opaque flexible material is the black nylon that some lab and beautician smocks are made.

    Thanks a lot, your solution make lot of sense, I was thinking about something similar but I was lost about materials. I don't know how long will take me to find the stuff and fix it (too busy). If I find a technician that will do it for me I'll definitely go for opening the camera, but if I'll have to do by my self I'll do it without opening it to mess as less as possible with the pieces. I'll do my best to remember to come back here and tell you the result as should help others. the camara when worked toke great pictures :)

    Fix Old Cameras My caliper is constructed from strong steel and is great for removing the dial things on top of shutters, winders ec with the 2 small holes where the lens spanner cant' fit together closely enough. You seem to be a bit anti inventive or alternative ideas. I can understand that in a way because inferior tools DO lead to disaster but my caliper is great. Just get it to the right diameter, lock the nut and off you go. Put in the holes and turn it around. They're on ebay for around £9.00 It has two jaws a small and a big one on either side and goes down to past zero diameter. If it works perfectly well then its good for me. PS I have got a proper lens spanner but it does't close small enough for certain things and that's when the caliper is used.

    Fix Old Cameras I use them for those 2 hole things on top of timers and film advance levers where a lens spanner doesn't fit closely together enough for the small diameter. A caliper goes down to minus zero diameter if you get the right type and a lens spanner doesn't. Get it to the right diameter. lock it in place and away you go! The apparently unmoveable timer or film advance lever is solved! PS the olympus 35 RC timer lever winds off clockwise, just to confuse everyone,you can usually tell that from the amount of them on ebay with it snapped off. You should do an olympus trip 35 video.

Images that have been taken on that camera still come out great, so should I even worry about it? I think the stain may be the result of the camera's previous owner killing the fungus and leaving the 'corpse' behind because it looks more like a really faint stain than anything else. I also have a little bit of spider-web fungus on the edge of my 90mm Contax g2 lens; Should I just kill that fungus and just learn to live with the stain once it's dead? Lastly, I have two Minolta lenses that have haze in the middle glass element, and I'm wondering how to access that part of the lenses to clean them. I worry that the mixture you recommended we use will strip away the coating on my lenses; Is that something I should worry about? Thanks!

    @@Yulfi If you are satisfied with the performance of a lens and you believe the fungus growth destroyed, probably would be alright to leave it as it is. The "spidie" fungus usually will leave a scar, but you do not want it to spread to the center of the lens, so the elements need to be cleaned. If gently applied an isopropyl alcohol based lens cleaner will not damage the coating.

  • @marklimbrick
    @marklimbrick Жыл бұрын

    Please don't follow this lens fog method. Firstly the gritty dirt needs to be removed with distilled water or alcohol mix, inverted so no solvent goes on the edge of lens. Do not rotate or wipe across lens. Just flood and then dab with lens safe tissue. Only then can alcohol and water mix be used, one wipe only and then fold over and after wipe throw away. There is an anti reflection coating which will be fragile on an old lens.
