FIX! | Clicking Noise in 05-09 Mustang | Changing Actuator | AC Defrost Broken

This is how to make that annoying clicking noise go away when you turn your AC on to anything other than the defrost. The fix does not take that much time. MAKE SURE when you go to the parts store for a new one, that they order the one with the tan wheel. Appreciate ya'll watching and leave some feedback down below for the future viewers that see this.

Ok I think I got it done. It wasn't that easy though. It took me several tries and some experimentation. The access to the actuator access is blocked by some steel. You have to have the right tools, having small hands helps too. Thanks for the video. I couldn't have done it without you.

There are 2 on the left one on the right. It’s a pain in the butt to get to. It’s $20 on Amazon. There are 3 out of the 4 that this part actually fits. If it’s the one on the drivers side burn the car. You have to take the whole dash apart. I did It in about 30 minutes but it wasn’t fun. Motorcraft YH-1870 Door Actuator Like I said. Taking it off was not that bad, but getting it back together is a serious pain in the ass. Stand on your head, try to get some light in there and contort your hands to reach those two screws. My advice is to get the easy screw started first and then make sure the lever is in the right spot. Tighten that first screw to hold it on the lever and then get the second screw installed. A 1/4 inch rachet with a swivel and extension worked best for me to tighten it.

Hey guys a quick update from 2023 😂 after you pull out the actuators DONT force the “lever” you can actually open up the actuator with no tools by lifting 6 clips. Most likely one of the gears broke and the pieces jammed it. Could be an easy fix or maybe even 3D print the piece lol. Also there’s a lever where the actuator was which opens and closes the vent to your defrosters, I left it half open so I at least have a defroster but also means my defroster will be on when I turn on the ac

I don't know how anyone could do this job just by removing the glove box. Save yourself a LOT of angst and remove the passenger airbag for better access. There's at least one video on KZread that shows how to remove the airbag, and it's really simple. Even after doing this, the upper actuator is a fairly difficult job. One problem is being sure the new actuator stays in the slotted vent arm while moving the module into final position. It took me several attempts to do that while also fitting the X-shaped opening of the module onto the molded mounting protrusion. Also, I wasn't able to start the upper screw during reassembly. A family member (youngster) with skinny arms and hands had to do it, working through the airbag cavity. For reference, the driver side actuator behind the instrument cluster is the Main Panel-Floor actuator. The upper module on the passenger side (the bad one in this video) is the Main Defrost actuator. The lower module on the passenger side is the Temperature Blend actuator, and the horizontal module all the way on the right is the Air Inlet actuator. In my 2008 V6 base, the part number stamped on the original 2007-dated Defrost actuator was 6R33-19E616-BA. The new MotorCraft part is 6R3Z19E616-B. The package also says YH-1870. This is the same module that's used on the driver side for Panel-Floor. I bought mine today from a Ford dealer because of all the bad reviews on aftermarket units. Cost was about $40. It's installed now, and the clicking is gone. I opened up the old module, and two teeth were broken off one of the gears. One last thing, you can identify which module is clicking by placing your hand on it while someone else operates the ignition key and controls (to make it click). You don't need to remove the electrical plug as suggested in several videos. Hope this helps!

Our '08 does this, but the noise is clearly coming form the left side of the dash behind the instrument cluster.

Mine is not making any noise but it barely blows through the defroster vents on top of the dash. But the rest of the vents everything works good. Instead the air that has to go to the defroster vent comes out from the floor vents. HEEEEELP

So when this breaks the air won’t blow at all right? Because mine was doing the clicking for a while and now my air won’t blow at all. I came across your video and have now removed the actuator. Should this fix my problem by installing new one?

Hey man can anyone help? I replaced my actuator, (it was actually the first one making the noise not the second one) and once I turn on the air and I try to put it on heat it won’t work, it only gives out cold air and even when I put it all the way on heat nothing comes out, any help?

@@BrockLeonard doubt you're gonna see this but my actuator finally crapped out and I went to replace it. I don't know what I messed up but the replacement clicked just like the broken original. Is there some kinda calibration thing I need to do for the new actuator? Maybe I installed it wrong? When I stuck it in there I made sure the arm went into that lever with the long oval hole in it but it still clicked.
