It's a shame that companies are making today's equipment to be thrown away after a few seasons. Plastic carbs, No Oil changes, plastic engine parts. These pieces of equipment will not last 15-20 years like the mowers made in years past. Great video and I love how detailed you are in your explanation of what you're doing. Thanks!

Gotta love the Jello-y stuff! I think these plastic carbs clog worse than any carb out there. Maybe it's just that there are so darn many of them out there. Great video Stella, I love your calm easy to understand explanations.

They also warp if they are tank mounted carbs and the lawnmower will surge and lose a considerable amount of power trying to get through thick tall grass but the most pain in the butt problem is it will not prime I had to keep taking the air filter off and putting a finger on a port that is above the auto choke plate to prime the carb and engine, plastic on an aluminum alloy surface will eventually warp, I believe I was putting my finger over the breather port.

What makes her videos so good are the explanations in clear demonstrations with the camera. She's efficient and doesn't waste energy or conversation on non essential items. She's a real pro!!!👍👍👍

You can do it!

You are a life saver! We have only had the mower about two, maybe three mowing seasons. When things break everyone looks to me to FIX it what ever IT may be. The grass is growing, I can hear it in my sleep. The it rains for two days making the grass grow even more. Well, I did the preliminary stuff like draining the tank, air filter, but had no clue how to tackle the carburetor. I found a couple ants in the gas thinking that might be the issue. The gas cap somehow lost a gasket on the bottom and won’t close tightly I’m sure part of the problem. Anyway, after my efforts it still would not stay running with fresh gas. Getting ready to tackle the carburetor. Wish me luck.

Take your time, it's pretty straight forward. Avoid carb spray on those little O-rings on that jet cartridge in the carb. They will swell up and not be usable. Thanks for watching!

@@ayvogt Yes! Success! Sorry you all. Mower is back to normal, functioning with one pull start as designed. Took video of part of the disassembly to not confuse the two metal arms; throttle and ??. I bit tricky hooking those back in. Video with this video where life savers. Also; making sure the air/exhaust that just kind of slides onto the back of the carburetor is truly in place, a bit tricky. ORIGINALLY Ran into a non starting mower, because I didn’t know the gasket had fallen off under the gas cap letting in debris and ANTS. Cleaned the plastic fuel jet part in clean gas and blowing it out with compressed air. Success!

Thank you so much! This video gave me the confidence to dig into my carbourater. Like you, there was nothing obvious, but taking it apart and cleaning it seemed to do the trick! Thank you!

I have the identical mower, my wife purchased it for me 5 yrs ago. Almost immediately it began stalling intermittently and running rough. I could never correct the issue until watching your video. Disassembled the carb as shown and found nothing glaring, put it back together and it works perfect. Similar to your unit you were working on. Thank you so much !!!!

Thank you for the great video! I was just about to toss my lawnmower in the trash until I did this. This was a Father's Day gift from my boys. Ran out of gas, put in clean gas, and then it died. The only thing I would be careful with is the float metal rod, it falls off easily if you remove it. Thanks again!

Thank you! You saved me time and money with your instructions. I didn't even need to remove the carb, just cleaning it and all the linkages with Gumout did the trick for me. I found green jello-like crud on the linkage hinges.

Great details in your video! I bought one of these used, ran great till the end of the first mow then started lopeing. Tried to start today and it started then immediately stopped. I used your video to disassemble and clean carb. Never saw any gunk or debris at all! Blew everything out. Lo and behold it fired right up! Thanks for posting!

Hi, I've just found your channel and I think you are absolutely great, I'm a gardener and I do all my own repairs on my equipment and other peoples equipment, I use aspen 2 in all my two stroke equipment all the time and aspen 4 in both my Honda mowers near the end of the season so I don't have a problem with ethanol. I don't like the "never change the oil, just top up" rubbish too and I'm not that keen on the plastic carbs. Wishing you a lovely new year and keep up the great work and the great videos.

Super helpful thanks so much ! Wanted to confirm that E-zero gas is important for this mower - look for it at Maverik stations. I recommend using neoprene work gloves when exposing your hands to gasoline and solvents.

Yep. I always urge folks to use non-ethanol if it’s available in their area. It’s pretty harsh on rubber bits, and when the alcohol evaporates, you have water left over. Thanks for watching.

@@TheLawnmowerLady You helped a lot! I ended up replacing the entire carburetor... the fact they are like $18 and the Float Needle Valve is like $16, I guess it was easier for me to do that. 😆 Thank you so much for the video!

Great video! If I might make a suggestion on these Briggs plastic carbs concerning the auto choke. I like to take the plastic piece coming from the choke linkage off with a small screwdriver so you don't have to fiddle with the Z bend. You just snap it back in place on the stud on reassembly. Give it a try. Thanks, again.

Thank you very much I was able to fix my Toro, my neighbor's daughter put water instead of gas I am retired and my cheque is not that much I decided to try it and it worked, maybe I become the the old lady from my neighborhood that fix lawn mower, just kidding I have problems with my lower ack and my knees but I feel great I was able to fix it thanks to you; I forgot to tell you I am close to 73. I always use non ethanol gas in all my small engines and recommend my customers use it also if they want to avoid the moister problems from ethanol gasoline. I always enjoy watching your videos. I'm hoping more will watch.

Thanks for sharing Mr Steven! I've been telling my clients the same thing. I'm pretty sure this owner uses ethanol free. She didn't say how often she loans out her mower, but she did tell me she didn't give them ethanol free. After watching some other videos, I'm thinking some of that jello is residue of detergents they put in all grades of fuel, (at least here in the US) I really appreciate you watching. Cheers!

I wish cheap non ethanol fuel was readily available where I live. But unfortunately it's not, so there isn't much choice in the matter, unless you wanna pay $20 a gallon for tru-fuel, but I'm not wealthy enough to afford it.

Thanks for your help love you no nonsense approach to your trouble shooting and I hear you mention the gas cap can cause a problem, Toro is giving me trouble I clean the carburetor and still having problems getting it started and notice there’s and ring around the cap that has come dislocated could that be causing the problem Thanks for the help Mat

If it's hard starting, but runs OK after it gets going, it's either the choke butterfly (if equipped- should be completely closed when cold) or the primer bulb (if equipped is not getting enough fuel to prime it for easy starting. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

I only had one of these newer style Toros with the 163cc engine and it had roughly 3x more oil in it than it should have. So I had to dump out 2/3's of it and than start it and let it burn off all the excess smoke for about 10 minutes. After that it was fine. I love when people add too much oil thinking it's a good thing.

The follow up texts are gold! About a month ago I serviced a snowblower for a co worker and he used after a huge storm and called me cursing and swearing that the machine just died like it wasn't getting fuel. I tossed one of my blowers on the trailer just in case he hadn't finished his driveway and went over to have a look. He had run it dry of fuel 🤦

Thanks! I use an inordinately pricey tachometer purchased for a different purpose. There are several less expensive ones out there. Generally speaking, increasing the spring tension on the governor return arm will increase the RPM on any of these small engines. I have a toro with the plastic carb. Mowing and stopped to change the cut height. Would not restart. pulled the air cleaner off and was full of gas. So got it up on the bench and pulled the carb. and this thing has a plastic needle in it... and not sure how but it would not seat. cleaned everything and put it back together. Will check rpm seems to be running a little slow. 22 in and I could not figure out how to adjust the rpm, you helped me with that too...THANKS....did see the carbs for sale on ebay for less than $20. Seems high for $2 worth of plastic LOL

Thanks, very helpful. On my plastic carburetor a small nozzle was clogged over the winter, now it runs again. Where is this supposed to lead, my carburetor is 97% plastic including the choke flap. Even the float needle is made of 100% plastic. So grandma's lawn mower from the 1970s was not design award-winning, but had much better quality.

The mechanics are simple, but combined with cheap technology and poor quality from China, the snow blowers are the last crap. Unfortunately, a good snow blower is very expensive and still vulnerable.

Awesome video! I have the same annoying mower and have cleaned out the carb about 5+ times now, and it runs for a while sometimes getting the whole yard, sometimes not and then just stops running. Maybe the jet pack needs to be replaced, or the float and pin, which all looks pretty good, maybe the whole carburetor, any ideas? It looks pretty clean every time I clean it out too, I’m ready to trash this lawn mower, and it’s only a couple seasons old….like I want to blow it up with major amounts of C4…

Thanks for watching. There still might be some crud in those tiny holes. You can get a new fuel stack for about $12 or so. Does it restart OK? If not maybe an ignition coil breaking down?

@@TheLawnmowerLady yep, it starts and then dies…. And after cleaning it runs for a while then dies. I checked the fuel tank flow too seems good, thought it might be a clogged cap. Guess I’ll try a new stack next. Guaranteed to start, but not keep running, grrr…

My toro recycler is only a year old. One mowing season. It was running rough then stopped and won't even try to start. I use ethanol free gas and it has new oil in it. Checked the air filter and it was really clogged up, so I cleaned that. I've never had a mower quit after 1 year. It's under warranty but the mower dealer I bought it from closed up. I guess I could check the carb...just doesn't seem it would do this after one season? Thanks for your video.

Sorry to hear that. Definitely drain out all the fuel from the tank and the carb bowl. Set the mower in the sunlight to dry out completely. Even using ethanol-free fuel can develop condensation over the winter if the tank is not topped off. I appreciate you watching. Cheers!

I think that will be complicated, as it requires a different flywheel. It has to mesh with a starter gear, and house a battery somehow.
