My girlfriends manual 05 rav4 has the same problem except it Only limits at 3000rpm whilst in gear and driving with the engine light on, but the engine light turns on and off randomly multiple times a day, the car also won’t start or will stall straight after starting most times when the engine light is on but will start and drive with no problem at all if the engine light isn’t there, was thinking it may be something to do with a bad catalytic converter but hoping this might be the simple answer instead.

Just do the basics and check the fuses, pull out the ecu and efi fuses and visually inspect them just incase they half burnt. Check the relays as well . Looks like there’s a bad connection somewhere causing the issue. it be good if you can scan it and pull out a fault code this way it direct you in a right area. Your cat won’t be causing this issue

Please, kindly help out, I have a RAV4 2002 model which jerks @3000rpm and is sluggish to start accelerating wen AC is on but moves well after been driven for like 10Sec or there about. But when I apply break and want accelerate again it's becomes sluggish and the picks normal again

Hi, it sounds like either your throttle body has carbon built up around the flat or idle control valve sticking, open the throttle wide open and clean the carbons built up on the flap and the throttle body housing. Spray fair bit of carby cleaner inside the idle Control valve as well. Then start the car up and give it few revs. Make sure you are not experiencing any miss fire which can cause similar symptoms

@PWRmotive Hey mate thinking I have the same problem, were you hitting 3,000 rpm while in drive as well? Mines similar but it's capping out at 2,500 ish

Hey mate , yeah while you driving and free revin won’t go over 3k and hits the limiter. I have had similar issue with a diesel Triton won’t go past 2500rpm only when driving and turned out to be blocked fuel filter

Excellent video. Do you have ideas on the cause of very high RPM at low MPH on same car? That is, revving at 4000 RPM to get 60 MPH instead of 2500RPM? Any leads?

@@juliustay2541 if engine revs up fine but doesn’t pickup speed it’s most likely to be transmission issue and not the engine it self.

Transmission doesn’t have rpm sensor, do you mean the crank angle sensor? That’s where you get signal for RPM. usually if that’s faulty you either get a fault code or engine doesn’t start.

Have you checked all the fuses? try disconnecting the battery and try again

Hi, my rav4 2003 missing on number 2 and 3 cylinder, i was driving only to discover that it lost power, i checked the spark it's fine and up changing those two injectors. Check the compression it's fine but still missing, what can be the problem brother?

Have you tried swapping the coils and spark plugs to different cylinders to see if the misfire move ? Coil packs are very common on those engines

@@stanleyndana2246 have you done head gasket check to see if head blown? Could be leaking in between the cylinders

I have a 2001 rav4 doing almost the same thing wont rev over 3k rpm and its sputtering at idle

Engine light on? Check for codes Have you pulled the fuse out and checked it? Sometimes they burnout halfway and won’t give enough power. If fuse ok check for fuel pressure and go from there.

@@3rminator just fixed it, looks to be like its the fuse box or maybe a relay I tapped the box on the sides and top ande heard something click and its started working again ,, no more sputtering and revs are back to normal.. cleared check engine and hasn't popped up again just drove it for about 40 miles everything seems ok

Check the fuse if it’s blown then replace it with, there should be spare fuses in fuse box also
