Hello, thank you for another fun video! Do you find yourself teaching 10-15 words per class to teenage students? The 4-6 words for class works great in younger classes, but I am expected to teach more vocabulary to students each class (even though long term retention of the influx of new words is questionable). Do you have any advice for ways to help students when classes have "denser vocabulary per class" expectations?
@Teacher-Val
2 ай бұрын
Good question! Generally, for primary school, it's recommended to introduce about 4 to 6 new words per lesson. However, in middle school, it's acceptable to increase that to around 10 to 12 new words. Remember, the exact number depends on factors like students' proficiency level, age, attention span, and the complexity of the words being taught. Some students can handle 15 words. Some can barely do 3.
Many thanks ❤

Hi, teacher Val. You said we have to teach less than 7 words for each class. How many times do you teach each class in a week? What is the duration for each meeting? Thanks in advance.
@Teacher-Val
2 ай бұрын
I see my students once a week. Each class is 40 min long. A few years ago, however, I used to teach the same class every day. When I did that, I never taught more than 4 words in each class.
@MiftaAstikaSari

What about now? Do you still teach 4-6 words for each class? It means only 4-6 words a week
@Teacher-Val

@@MiftaAstikaSari The students in my school have English classes every day, but they have my class only once a week. Yes, I try my best to teach 4-6 words/class because, IMHO, it renders the best results.

That's great... Every day. In my case, we only teach English/Arabic once a week for 1 or 1.5 hour. I'm from Indonesia.
Teacher Val, I have one student who is struggling in reading the words .While other students can read the sentences but he can't read .How can I help him in the effective way?
@Teacher-Val

I think this student needs special attention. You need to identify the exact areas where your student struggles such as phonemic awareness, decoding or sight word (most common words in English) recognition. Focusing on phonics, introducing sight words, reading aloud to the student regularly might help.
Helpful video teacher Val. But i think your throat is not good in this video. Stay healthy teacher!

You have a good ear! Thank you! I shot this video after teaching six lessons. Also, I wasn't fully recovered from my cough, but I tried my best to hide it. 🤣🤣🤣
Почему нас не учат этому в университете?
@Teacher-Val

😂😂😂 It depends on the education program and university. Many education programs focus more on theory and research forgetting about the practical teaching skills. Practical teaching skills often require hands-on experience, ongoing mentorship, and opportunities for reflection and feedback, which may be challenging to provide within the framework of a university course.
