I started this job 3 years ago with your videos. I'm currently working on television series and motion pictures. I owe you a lot of things I've learned. I follow you sometimes, and from what I've seen, you've come to a much better position. I wish the best for you. Thank you for everything.

I studied sound for visual media in 2021 learning and using pro tools, it was a year long course, these videos and tutorials have added so much to my arsenal, this has just inspired me to try new things. I am yet to get my dream job off the ground (Manchester UK based sound guy here!), but I'm enjoying working on passion projects and short films here, so if anyone is looking for someone in the UK that's pretty reliable and is a fast worker (the video DOES advise on networking hahaha), hit me up! Thank you once again Mr Boykin, I really appreciate the content.

I got fired from my 15 years old job as sound editor and mixer. I feel a little like just starting over I have to get used to freelance work, which I did but not all the time. Thanks for this video!

Freelance is tough, and has been my path since 2014. Pros: make your own schedule, set your own rates, work on projects you like. Cons: inconsistent cash flow, taxes, and sometimes you have to take work you don't like to pay the bills.

Hey Thomas! Just wanted to say that since your first couple of videos, you have guided me through some tough and hard jobs and without your help it would've been a lot harded and, above all, not sound as good! Looking forward for more! Thank you!

Great video!! Something that helped me a lot in the beginning (and I still do it) is referencing other film mixes and sound designs constantly while working on a project. It can give you a starting point when thinking about levels, dialogue eqs, reverb, etc.

That's some great info. Networking for me was key, but I did it in school. I think even now the majority of the work I do is connected somehow to the network i built in school. Some people who didn't go to school for film have asked me how to get involved and I'm honestly at a loss because that's how I did it and i can't imagine cold networking.

Thank you very much Tom, now i know how to network. Maybe I'm overthinking it somehow, and rely on my skills alone too much. I reached a point where I feel stuck with this kind of career, but knowing the reality out there for other sound-post guys/gals, I have a feeling that this could work. Need to go to one of my local film festival!

I started 4 years ago. After 10 years of working with artists, I was once an artist myself. But it’s not just that I’m tired of it, but the songs have become meager in content. With a knowledge base, I moved into cinema. 2 student films without a budget, and now I’m working with major brands and already have 2 feature films. He also mastered the skills of a foley artist. It seems to me that in the field of cinema you must have the knowledge, and sometimes even the skills, of other sound specialists, such as a sound designer, boom operator, foley artist and a little bit of a composer.

It’s been a couple years since I looked there. But I think I made about 15-20k one year just on that platform. Took a while to build everything up and you have to be monitoring it regularly since the jobs go fast. But my experience may be out of date
