He will get it eventually, he's one of the most deserving personality in terms of making a generational change i would say greater than Sachin could ever do because there were great many stalwarts before him but Anand stood alone and walked as a torch bearer for chess in India. What a great champion!!!

Aruna Anand is sweet, down-to-earth but capable. Anand, even as a child was very (intelligent, charismatic, mature) with amazing general knowledge and excellent English. He was so Don Bosco-ish. He got a 200/200 in 12th Maths hardly having time to attend school. Was very good academically. Most important of all, I remember him as being very nice, and yes, humble. He was universally liked by all players from diverse backgrounds in Tamil Nadu. Great social skills even at that age. So great emotional intelligence too.

I "knew" Anand from mid 1980s through one degree of separation. In other words, I knew people who knew Anand and had met him. His father Mr K Vishwanathan was a Railway Mechanical Engineer from the same Alma Mater (there was one dedicated Institute for Railway Mechanical Engineers) that I had joined. There were Chennai based people also there. I asked them about Anand. One of them said-"This youngster Anand goes to the Railway Officers club. People would be playing chess. He goes to the table and tells the players that their moves are bad and they should play some other moves. What does this kid think of himself ? Does he think he is some world champion or something ? " I tried to tell my colleagues that Anand was already the best chess player India had ever produced, but my colleagues would not listen to me. :) By the way, a couple of these colleagues are right now posted in Chennai in senior positions. I am sure they must have revised their opinion about this person whom they had watched in Railway Officer's club correcting the moves of chess players there nearly 35 years ago.
