I've been living in Thailand since September, and Jomtien since Christmas week. I love the safety and cost of living and lack of cold climate. I'm thinking I will move to Hua Hin when my lease expires, as it's less touristy and less bar focused there. A funky, Pismo Beach vibe

Absolutely, spot on... Leave your baggage at home... You don't get a vote... You don't (really) have any rights... Their country, their rules... and the most sage advice I was given... Don't put anything into the country, you aren't willing to walk away from... YOU are a guest, act like one...

You tell that to the expats and the rest of the mongers there anywhere in Thailand. They think that they owned that country and do whatever they want to do illegally like working without permit, assaulting a traffic officer and having sex in the dark alley around.
@RetiringToAsia
5 ай бұрын
@apoloestrada2908 please remember, those in the news are a limited few people behaving badly. Not all expats are like that. We have to be careful to guard against generalizations.
Some people move to Thailand without working on themselves doing their homework. They think overseas will magically fix all their problems with no effort from them. Every country has its compromises being your responsibility to adjust to their culture. Remember you are always on Thai time having a plan B if you need a change your schedule. Keep expectations realistic and within your budget. Make the right choices overseas enjoying life for less money. Having the right mindset you can create an amazing life. Never allow poor choices to ruin the happiness you deserve.

Absolutely and never allow the poor choices of others to ruin your happiness either.
Some sound points here. While housing is cheaper , smaller and more affordable it is impossible to see an increase in value and also difficult to sell on. Yes the drivers online test is not easier - some super weird questions - I manage to pass with 49/50! Love to eat spicy food and enjoy the heat. Respecting and embracing the culture is so important.

Good video. I recommend that your viewers look into getting the new long-term visa. The process is fairly easy and straightforward and you automatically get a multiple entry visa with it and you only have to report residency once a year. It’s good for 10 years but you need to check in with the BOI in five years to get the additional five years. The beauty of it is you don’t have to go to the normal immigration office you go to BOI office instead and you can start the whole process online first.

I love it here
The heat and humidity is bad, particularly during the middle of the day in the city where the heat reflects off of all the buildings making the street level an oven. I also have mixed feelings about the apartments and condos. I really do not care for the modern high rises, I prefer the older buildings where the layout is a rectangle that you can do whatever with. As far as food, I wound up eating variations on a "Full English Breakfast" quite often. Probably more expensive than Thai food, but at $5 still very affordable.

@@marksoler7338 Ao Nang at the moment. It's pretty touristy, but the food is insanely good. Heading to Krabi town tomorrow for the day and then onto Koh Lanta. Another area I absolutely love is Khao Lak, which is just north of Phuket. It's got about 35km of almost continuous beach, if that's your thing (it's mine). I just came from 10 days there. If I had to choose a place to live now, I would choose Khao Lak, but still a few places to explore. Hua Hin is supposedly the best place in the world to retire (according to Forbes) but it did nothing for me. Beach sucks.

Hassel number 6 take your passport with you even if you think "why would it be needed" ! It generally relates into 2 days instead of one IF you don't have it.
Thai weather alternates between 3 days hot and 3 days rainy cool except in the winter that the weather is quite stable for many months. Immigrant document problems can easily be overcome by hiring an agent. I don't eat spicy food and I never had a problem here for decades. Only few foods are spicy and I can always tell the vendors for customization.

One good reason is all I needed ! -- The govt. only wants the wealthy there long term ?!? -- Siem Reap will profit from my choice - a full time frugal place as a "home base" - for me. -- Visa runs are BS & Thailand can shove them where the sun doesn't shine !!! - yea - (Same with their "financial requirements" - same place as the visa runs.) -- I may visit - may not ? -- Kuala Lumpur may get my $ on a visit & Bali too. Maybe.........
