Two Hundred and Fifty Five mass shootings in the US since this year and that doesn’t include regular every day murders. I moved back after 46 years abroad and every day I give thanks for making that decision. Some people don’t have the resources to come back so they use “crime” as an excuse.

I know a few Jamaicans who have returned, who are living in my future community. They have not regretted the move at all. There are some Jamaicans who move to UK US or Canada and they left nothing behind. A friend of mine shared with me that she stopped over from Canada and needed somewhere to stay and her sister has a friend residing in Bronx who agreed to put her up for the week she was going to be on the US side. She said, the gentleman told her that him living condition is good and when she got there she was in disbelief., just utter shock! It was a basement space and she said it was awful she couldn't even take a shower because that amenity was not there! She left the following day!! That left me to wonder, 🤔 why did he think his living arrangements were so great? How was he living prior to going to America?? Smh and I deduce that some Jamaicans were living in some dire straits before going away so they willingly settle for subpar conditions. It's beyond me. Se even said the area was such a run down area and it would appear like gunshot could ring out any minute an yu affi duck 😂😂😅

@AnnaYAH5315 Some believe that Jamaica is so bad that no matter how bad where they are happens to be it is better than Jamaica and so they are able to settle. Some also hear such good things spoken about America that they cannot transform what they had heard and believed with what they are seeing or living. There are a mixture of areas in Jamaica and every other country. 💯😎

There are equally people on here with degrees who have not been able to get jobs in their field if they were not shortage careers such as teaching and nursing. The fact is that in 'developed' countries there are conveniences that 'developing' countries don't have to those levels or don't offer and that can be rather attractive until you get there and see the cost one has to pay for those conveniences and sometimes cannot find the time to even benefit or enjoy them because they are too busy working, running errands and sleeping to do anything else. Because those bills aren't going to pay themselves and if ignored only going to cost them more because they won't go away or be left unchallenged. 🤔🧐

My sister has 2 masters (one from a US college) and is currently a PhD student and is unemployed.. She has been looking since last August without success. If she had done a CNA course she would have been employed. The Corporate world is not kind to immigrants.

There are still development done that are geared towards Jamaican and young people that are affordable 2 beds 1 or 2 bathrooms if they wanted those. There is definitely more development happening rapidly across the Island. The return require forward planning. 💎

You said life in us uk and Canada is more expensive then jamaica, but isnt it also that overseas the salary range is a lot higher. Thanks for the information. My thoughts: #1 Crime- Black lives don’t matter to Black people not just in Jamaica but globally. Mindset reset needed collectively. #2: Cost of living- importation is going to make things expensive globally. Ground provisions are healthier and the way to go. #3. Employment- Have a funds available which may be needed to supplement income earned on the island. Remote work may also be an option. #4. Healthcare is free, but be ready to wait hours at any public facility. #5. Infrastructure- Roads, trash collection, water, electricity etc. I understand things take “time”. But would like to know how much time. Is that 10 months or 10 years? At the end of the day…….. There is no place like home. 🇯🇲

Some great points. Development require money to get them done and as such it will take time; we can see that development is happening, trash collection is available and people still choose to burn trash for example. There is the PATH programme for funds; however consider Jamaica's GDP and tax revenue in order to do everything needed and additional funds than they already offer on top of reasonable access to free healthcare and reasonable access to free education. There are some remote working happening. In North America and Europe there are so many NGO and NPO that support with services and grants or other social services that support the people. Maybe there need to be more of those. 🤔🧐

To all the people who keep mentioning free healthcare in Canada and UK. It's not free, your taxes pay for the health care.

There are challenges and a variety of experiences. However, together we can find ways to survive. Government corruption is in every country and it would be great if that could be averted. Repatriates who are accessing the current healthcare system are satisfied and the occasions we have encountered the police we have nothing to report negatively. However, we are aware that people of all different levels of integrity are in society and will be reflected in the police, government and every organisation. Hopefully you've decided to return or see ways you can contribute to making a change from wherever you are watching. 💎💯

That's the same in Jamaica; low income and elderly! Many people choose to use private health care petty much as they probably do in Canada and increasing numbers are doing in the UK. My relatives in Canada have medical insurance and increasingly more people in the UK are getting medical insurance to avoid waiting lists. 💎

After living in Canada for almost 60 years, I have yet to pay for healthcare. We have universal healthcare

Some groups of people get their prescriptions filled at no cost but most people pay for theirs. There is also the private healthcare options that are available for those people who want to use that instead just like many people in Canada are opting for.

@@LifewiddiJamFams A friend of my mother's moved back to Jamaica after living in the UK for over 55 years, having moved there as a young child and it was always her dream to retire back to Jamaica. She's been back there for over 10 years and said it's the best decision she ever made! She said she gets her regular medication and that free healthcare is good. Many people don’t take the time to check the facts but just go by the negativity and what the biased media say about Jamaica. A year ago we travelled from Ocho Rios to a rural part of St Catherine and all the kids born in the UK were so amazed to see how good the roads were for the entire journey! They just loved all of it!

When you refer to those statistics, you also need to compare the size of those countries in comparison to Jamaica, as well as the population of those countries, which would make Jamaicas statistics much higher than the statistics of the countries you refer to is much higher than jamaica. The size of the country and the population only gives the population density of the country which doesn't directly correlate to crime. Monaco and Macau are the most densely populated countries and they are equally very wealthy. Their crime rates are low. Crime has many factors and population density, which so many people feel should be high on the list, really isn't that high on the list of factors. 💯💎🧐

I think the size of Canada and Jamaica is a big difference, therefore I wouldn’t consider them the same . I live here🇨🇦 and I can’t walked anywhere at night as a single woman. I was in Jamaica for three months last year and the women don’t go anywhere at night alone. When I went walking in the morning everyone was sitting on sticks and needles until I returned, they didn’t encouraged walked at night either. I love ❤️ Jamaica 🇯🇲 but there’s issues there just like likes everywhere else. I’m will going be 76 in few weeks, my foods is a big issues because I don’t eat box meals out I makes my own. This allows me to stay away from medication of any type. I only eat what on the farms and not import from other countries when I’m there that way I know what I’m getting.

People have preconditioned fears some of which has not real basis because it is passed on or enforced by others fears. As you send in your follow up, it's about practising safety in where you are walking which you would do in any country. 💎✨💯

To compare crime in the little island of JA against the USA , CAN and the UK is like comparing pears with apples..just look at the population of those countries and look at the 3 million in Jamaica.. If you really want to know if crime is bad in Jamaica, just look at how many houses now have burglar bars and how many people are living in gated communities!! Say no more !

Mister, burglar bars are something that was a show of wealth from I was a child and then it became a trend. There are many houses in the newer developments that don't have any. Additionally, there really isn't that many gated communities in Jamaica and the majority of Jamaicans don't live in gated communities. They live is subdivision developments or traditional suburbs and rural communities where they are outside the urban areas. 💯😎

However, it is definitely not that astonishing when we are looking at actual statistics, understanding the sensationalism of media sources and factors that lead to crime of which population is very low down on the list of things to consider. Countries with large population hide the height of crime in their country behind their population and Jamaica definitely do not have that option. What statistics were you basing your statement from? How could that be reduced or addressed from your perspective? 🤔🧐

@LifewiddiJamFams I'm not going by statistics,I'm going by my own personal experiences... when you have been a victim of crime that has left you traumatised ,you cease to think or care about making comparisons about where we are on the global list when it comes to crime...crime is crime and impacts our lives wherever in the world we reside. I'm not interested in the politics of which country has the worst crime,I'm interested in jamaica resolving their's. Until the social and economic issues are resolved,things shall get worse. Also, the mentality and moral fibre of the people need to change from top to bottom inside out. Jamaica has become a place of lawlessness and slackness,people don't seem to have any empathy, compassion, or sympathy for one another... many lack any form of REAL love for GOD,its just an outer appearance and just words. No one looks out for their neighbour anymore...its all selfishness,greed, and materialism. The whole world,not just jamaica,has gone mad.

Jamaica is being run by self interested,self absorbed,greedy narcissists who care zero about the people. Jamaica, the land we love is fast becoming the land we shall lose. The citizens are becoming 2nd and 3rd class citizens in their own country. They are being returned back to a slave like position, and its plain to see. The people's rights are being eroded and removed. People can not afford to eat or enjoy the basic necessities...people can not afford to feed their families..what are people supposed to do. What do people who's backs are against the wall do..they sometimes do the unthinkable...poverty and desperation leads to crime,which distabalises any country..and the sad thing is,I feel its being done by design

Some of the things you mention here are struggles that people in the UK are talking about daily because cost of living is soaring and the job markets are down turning due to companies going into administration or down sizing and closing down offices. Areas in the Urban communities increased populations and areas further a field are showing signs of underdevelopment etc. Jamaicans both in Jamaica and in the diaspora will need to be the change they want to see, and be the agents of those change. Otherwise, others will see and make use of the opportunities here and the class divide will simply continue to expand. It's a far cry from what we experienced as children nevertheless, we need to put our shoulders to the wheels to make it better for the children who are here and those who are coming... 💯👍🏾🤩

Do you live in Jamaica? Jamaica is 76th on the 2023 Global Peace Index scoring 1.986. USA is at 129th scoring 2.448. For context Iceland is at number 1 with a score of 1.124. There could be a lot more transparency and less bureaucracy in the way Jamaican organisations operate. However, what you are preconditioned to refer to as corruption in Jamaica is called lobbying in USA. The social services are present and people utilising it. Considering the country's population and revenue. Roads are being repaired and we've only experienced two power outage since coming to Jamaica and it was brief. One of those was because they were working on cable lines on our street. Water is definitely something that needs to be address and funds are earmarked to tackle that. How can you contribute to redressing any of these factors you raised? 🤔🧐

All parts of Jamaica needs improvement and they just improved downtown Kingston and gentrify that so much of Kingston. There are new developments and road works, harbour and so much happening in Kingston and you haven't noticed! There is a children's hospital being built in Montego Bay the largest of it's kind in the Caribbean. Doctor's visit at a private practice is paid for by the patient just as in Canada. However, all public healthcare facilities offers universal care to all Jamaican citizen and resident since 2008. 💯🎉

That has seem to be the trend from the people who commented. However, it should be well noted that population and country size are low on the scale of crime. That simply gives us population density. Macau, Monoaco are both in number 1 positions for population density and are some of the wealthiest countries in the world; and they tend to have lower levels of crime! 🤔🧐💯

Several British and Americans who have moved to West Africa have cited their experience to be the same thing you've mentioned here about the treatment of foreigners. There are many repatriates to Jamaica who have commented on our videos who report that they are enjoying Jamaica and it is the best thing they have done. 1,393 was the total numbers and not a rate. It also reflects a reduction from the year before after much intervention. At the same time what you failed to show is that people shot in the US that same year was 117,345 and 42,654 of those were fatal. That's only gun related. Every country has crime and Jamaica's population or size doesn't lower that reality. What programmes can you set up to actively change the statistics or paint the picture you want to see? 🤔🧐

@FrankHarris-xg9bd When crime happens in a community it affects everyone. Look at the wall street problem of 2008 and the impact it had throughout the world. There is never any denial of crime in Jamaica. Just an attempt to demonstrate that crime is happening in other places too, especially where it's believed that the socio-economical demographics are much better than Jamaica. Understanding the root causes of the crime and developing NGO programmes to support what the government is doing will have much greater impact than demanding the crime gets addressed in the way people are calling for it, because measures are being implemented already and there are reported decline. However, it's like taking some medications, they masks the symptoms but doesn't address the root cause of the problems. What NGO could you set up or organise to assist in practically addressing the root cause! 💎💯🌟

Moving back is a must, but your first reason you gave is flawed reasoning because you didn’t give the per capital, USA have over 300, million people in comparison to Jamaica having maybe 3 million in Jamaica. Free healthcare ?where? People are dying on hospital floors I need not say more.

The roads are being improved and where we are they are doing a great job at repairing them. The people who have used the healthcare facilities have commented that they found it rather good. These are people who can make comparisons with the healthcare here and that in countries they are returning from. Is there any initiative you can start to support in bringing it to a better standard? 🤔🧐✨

There's no jobs in Jamaica. You can't compare Jamaica to Uk Canada and United States. Jamaica only pay $15000 for a 40 hr minimum for week. No jobs

The comparison is made constantly and that's part of why people decide which of the countries to live in. Although the minimum wage cited reflects an increase, granted the minimum wage in Jamaica is low; especially when comparing the same 40 hrs in T&T (JM$18,800), Barbados (JM$39,000), Bahamas (JM$40,000), USA (JM$45,000), Cayman (JM$65,000) and Canada (JM$78,500). However, there are no comparisons made in your comments about the cost of living which has a direct correlation with income and affordability. How could you add to the increase in jobs availability on the Island? 🤔🧐

Stop your lies. The health care system sucks. No jobs and high crime. For a country with 2.6 million people crime too high. Pipr dream to move back to what. I left Jamaica since 1975 and the roads are still very bad. There are no improvements in my neighborhood.

Those countries are bigger than Jamaica that’s not how 😊statistics work. You have to think in regard to population, how big the country is, the number of crimes that are come daily, monthly and yearly then you will the real figure? Your use of stats is very simplistic.
