FIVE LOCHS CHALLENGE, Scotland's best one day gravel loop?

Спорт

Scottish gravel riding is some of the best in the world (unlike its weather). Don't believe us? - Have a look at the amazing scenery, smooth gravel, and remote locations on this 140km loop through the Highlands of Scotland.
The route can be started at a number of points, but we chose to start at the gatehouse to Ardverikie Estate on Loch Laggan. It is a committing route through remote areas with little phone coverage and only a few pit-stop opportunities. But it is well worth the effort for a truly Scottish adventure.
The route takes in the shores of five big lochs (and many smaller ones!) hence its name.
These are:
Loch Laggan
Loch Ossain
Loch Rannoch
Loch Garry (which I forgot in my narrative on the film!)
Loch Erict
75% of the route is off-road. There are two sections that are not really ridable especially when wet. One is at the head of Loch Garry (about 1 mile long) and the other is next to Loch Pattack heading back down into Ardverikie (about 1km). These are boggy single-track sections but essential to connect this loop up.
Gravel ranges from fast and smooth in Corrour and Ardverikie Estates to lumpy and bumpy over some of Rannoch Moor (long bumpy descent) and later along the shores of Loch Garry. In general, this is not a technical route and the gravel riding is exceptional.
Stop off at Corrour Station (Trainspotting reference!) and make the most of the amazing cafe there. We did not want to leave.
There is also a new cafe in Dalwhinnie at the time of writing (Aipary Cafe) which is worth a visit. Otherwise, options are limited for refuelling so carry what you need.
Please respect these great wildernesses of Scotland and leave no trace.
If you try the route let us know what you think

Rode from Loch Rannoch to Dalwhinnie in June during the drought and it was beautiful, and brutal at the same time! Turning into the farm field was just soul breaking, soul enlightening when you hit the open moors, and then the hike a bike to Loch Garry was hilariously dumb - AND THEN you have to ride trails better suited for a FS MTB. Loved it though in a masochistic way. The tarmac path to Dalwhinnie feels like the best path in the world after that. Loved the video, and am saving this route for when I have 50mm tyres! That Loch Garry section still makes me laugh with how brutal it was. 😅
