The combined choirs of the Salt Lake Choral Artists (Young Choral Artists, Women's Choir, Concert Choir, Chamber Choir and Vocal Artists) along with local High School choirs perform Five Hebrew Love Songs by Eric Whitacre live in concert on February 19, 2011 in Libby Gardner concert hall, under the direction of Dr. Brady Allred
Violin:
Leslie Henrie
Piano:
Laurel Enke
Text:
I. Temuna (A Picture)
A picture is engraved in my heart;
Moving between light and darkness:
A sort of silence envelopes your body,
And your hair falls upon your face just so.
II. Kala Kalla (Light Bride)
Light bride
She is all mine,
And lightly
She will kiss me!
III. Larov (Mostly)
"Mostly," said the roof to the sky,
"the distance between you and I is endlessness;
But a while ago two came up here,
And only one centimeter was left between us."
IV. Eyze Shelleg! (What Snow!)
What snow!
Like little dreams
Falling from the sky.
V. Rakut (Tenderness)
He was full of tenderness;
She was very hard.
And as much as she tried to stay thus,
Simply, and with no good reason,
He took her into himself,
And set her down
In the softest, softest place.
Hila Plitmann

    The choir is phenomenal, and let's TALK about that violinist! She has perfectly captured the authenticity of spirit of my people (the Jews). Lovely, lovely, lovely performance.

    Good Lord, I want to sing this beautiful piece in choir so badly. One of my most favourite Whitacre compositions!

    Sang this in my high school choir and still one of my favorite pieces I've ever performed. I want to recommend this to my college professor.

    I sang this with my high school choir recently. I'm a bass, and Kala Kalla was definitely the most touching to sing

    I just sang this with my Honors All-State Choir, and, as an Alto II, all I could think about was how much I wanted to be a Soprano for Larov. This blend is phenomenal, I wish we could have matched it.

    I was part of the 2012 KMEA Allstate SATB Choir. We performed this piece, and I must say, at first I hated it because I was unfamiliar with Hebrew. But once I actually learned the piece, it quickly became one of my favorites. It's beautiful and you can really feel the love between Eric and Hila since they wrote the piece together.

    I'm thinking of performing this with my HS choir next year. It's so compelling and beautiful. It's either this, Water Night, or Seal Lullaby. I just can't seem to decide!! This is a gorgeous performance by the way.

    I'm glad that this choir sang at this tempo. I've heard others sing too fast that the part that goes "la lalalalalalalala lalalalalalalala..." sounds really messed up. This choir, pianist, violinist, and the conductor are really, REALLY good.

    Qué buena la violinista! Sonido impecable y fraseo perfecto.
