Five Guitar Licks in Five Shapes - Master your pentatonic shapes on the fretboard!

Музыка

We need to be able to play up and down the guitar fretboard with ease. One way to get good at that is to memorize all five of the pentatonic shapes. But that's enough. We want to have cool things to play in each shape when we get up there on the guitar fretboard. So having some classic licks in each shape is essential to mastering the guitar fretboard for rock, blues, and country guitar. In this video you'll learn one lick for each of the five pentatonic shapes.
On our Patreon group we will have more licks for each shape in tabs, plus the jam track. Join our Patreon group at / guitarlessonsvancouver
Books by Blue Morris are available on Amazon, details at www.bluemorris.com/shop
Thanks to our Patreon Rockstar sponsors for helping to make these videos possible!

Hi Blue Morris, Just a few words to thank you for your great contribution and generosity to guitar teaching community. I am an old 62 chap already and after a long pause too busy with Work and duties, fortunately I am still standing and now i am back to playing guitar and hungry for learning to do it a little bit better, if possible… and i must say that you have helped me a lot. Each of us has different ways and your teaching way fits me very well. I find your methods fantastic, short videos with various and very applicable useful subjects, going straight into the horse mouth with a clear explanation in an understandable tone, aiming to have fun and successfully making complex things easy. I am constantly diving in this universe of never-ending list of things to learn to improve my guitar playing and as said, your lessons are among the very Best. I can tell I will never be a Pro but your teaching and your Book Guitar Soloing like a Pro are surely contributing to my guitar playing sounding much better and having lots of Fun on the Journey… Practicing and Persistence are winning over Frustration Days when you can’t play as you wish… Greetings from Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands, many thanks again and congratulations for your great teaching, and I plan to carry on learning and having fun until the game is over… Fabio Nieves.

Man , your teaching is the most useful stuff I have found anywhere. It is so practical and useful. Others teach stuff that sounds great but without how and where to use it, it is pretty much useless. I play on a praise team and the music is constantly changing from week to week & your instruction is helping me break out of usual playing . Thanks so Much.

Well, after playing for one year now, I have seen a lot of videocontent for guitarlessons on YT, but I have to say that for me you are the only teacher where I can hold my focus on the complete lesson. Therefore I make a lot of progress. I have bought your Book 1 on Amazon a few months ago. Happy to hear your second book is out. I will buy it as my Christmas present 🙂

Your shape 2 starts on the major root on the 6th string, so call that shape 1. Your shape 1 starts on the minor root so call that shape 6. When you consistently name the shapes after the major scale degree they start on, you then have both E strings as your guide posts for every key. Let your shape numbers truly mirror music theory and it pays off in keeping you from losing your place. You can even stay in one place without chasing roots even as the key changes. Try it sometime.

Thank You! Very practical yet powerful videos as per the usual. I used to practice the pentatonic positions and worked on becoming familiar with root/blue notes and the nice bending/tension points by improvising along with Roy Buchanan (e.g., Soul Dressing, Five String Blues, Sweet Dreams, etc.). Then I did the same to practice/experiment with navigating between and through the positions. Likewise for practicing dropping in the additional notes that belong to the natural scale.
