    Is it fine if you go with a racing bike? Or triathlon bike?

    I would not recommend a tri bike. I used a racing bike since that's all I have and most participants are on racing bikes. I say, use what is comfortable for you. Good luck!

    Derian Caba Use what ever bike you’re accustomed to riding. Just make sure everything is working properly so you have a smooth ride through out the tour.

    Sorry to post late, any bikes are welcome. It's a tour of the city not a race. Go at your own pace.

    This is a pretty easy ride including the bridges. Im 63 and never had to push yet (last 4 years). I wish they would let us ride on the top deck of the VNB. The big hack is making all the riders flow to the bike show to register. I never buy anything there as BNY is forcing us to go there to get more money. Since I am out of town I have to rent a place to stay overnight which more than doubles the cost of the ride. Just my 2c..

    Apologies that this is after the fact. I'm sure you found out that they only check for your credentials at the packet pickup. Everything else is spot-checking for the required numbers and covers. I hope you had a wonderful time even though it was wet.

    Are fixed gear bikes allowed? What happens if you are volunteering? They allowed me to ride 22 miles

  • @sixgears1

    @sixgears1

    Yes fixed gear is allowed. If you're volunteering, I would guess it depends on what and where you're volunteering for. Many volunteers stop at key locations such as main intersections or bridges to help direct traffic or pull out those who are not authorized to ride.

    Bike NY welcome anyone wants to volunteer. Just sign up on their site & attend a class in person or online. They have a long list of areas for you to choose to volunteer. Stationary or riding marshal, "stationary" is for rest stops, no riding. Any bikes are fine & also distance of ride is no issue, just hoop off. Volunteers get breakfast before the tour & t shirt at finish. Sign up opens 1/8/20

    Lol. So some rented then left their citibike sitting in the street? Wow, that’s $1200 (the cost of a pretty decent brand new name brand bicycle) down the drain. Bunch of goobs I tell ya.

    I rode the year it rained. They held up the start until they did ALL of their advertising from the stage and named all of their company personnel and named ALL of their advertisers while 30 thousand of us sat in the pouring rain waiting to start. I really resented that and I then closed my TD account and I continue to boycott any of the advertisers that I was able to remember hearing as I sat in the rain. Ha...I know..but I hate these corp aholes.

    I was in that ride as well! All my riding buddies bailed but I was determined to not waste the $ I paid. I ended up buying a rear fender in Brooklyn because I couldn't take the splashing anymore.

    You don't think it's hypocritical for you to keep telling people that they should do the tour right (hold your line, etc.) then tell them they can start north of the start line? That's completely rude. If tens of thousands of riders can wait in their assigned waves, what makes you so special that you can cut the line?
