A haunting, magical ballad. Utterly spellbinding. Deserved to be in winning contention. One hell of a "farewell" for Italy until their well-deserved return in 2011.

fun fact (not really "fun"): I don't know why, but italian record companies never loved the band. Jalisse's "Fiumi di parole" is iconic, but they didn't do any other famous songs. When Alessandra was pregnant, his husband and bandmate Fabio started working as a delivery man, because they needed to make money for the baby. That's insane, they should be more famous. Nowadays they have been excluded for years from the Festival of Sanremo. It's like if producers didn't want them to be famous, even if they're stunning and people love them.

@@edoardomiserocchi6220 Because when they won Sanremo they were under an independent discographic studio and bigger ones got mad about the outcome and made sure to never let them work again at high level. Italian studios hold huge power in the market, still today they say yes or no to many Sanremo entrants and winners, especially through journalists.

@Edoardo Miserocchi Also, RAI didn’t want to participate in ESC anymore (due to expenses and low ESC TV rating in Italy) and in 1997 applied “by accident” (not sure how that happened), they wanted to withdrawn, but Jalisse apparently and allegedly took the matter to the court and legally won their right to go to Eurovision. And also there were plagiarism accusations, the song does resemble “Listen to Your Heart” by Swedish Roxette, but allegedly accusations were overthrown in the court. All of these claims were never proven, but if there is half the truth in them, then RAI-Jalisse relationship was tense from the start, to say at least and therefore RAI and Italian record companies probably began to marginalize Jalisse in the Italian music scene
Love from Grecia❤ Love fiumi di parole!!! Una faccia una razza

Apparently, back then there weren't given allocated times when they could do an advert break. By 1993, it was too expensive for RAI (the Italian broadcaster) to host 3 hours or so of TV without an advert break. By 2011, there have been breaks in the show where the broadcasters who do advert breaks can have a few minutes of adverts, hence Italy came back. Some people were glad however, as Italy wasn't able to host if not participating (given the horror show we had in 1991...)

still an amazing song x

@@lillolollo1217, immediately after the victory a slimy smear campaign began here in Italy against the song which was accused of being copied from Roxette's "Listen to your heart". False and defamatory accusation. At the same time, a falsely intellectual campaign began which claimed that the song was ugly and banal, that no one knew the Jalisse, and bla bla bla. All this cut off from the media point of view the Jalisse who were even forced to self-produce the song in the person of the vocalist because all the record companies refused to produce it. The failure to win the Euro Song Contest was also very strange because the European audience was enthusiastic about the song. I assure you that for those who remember these events it was really a disgusting and cowardly thing that was done against the Jalisse and their song.

It was the press and the critics (which is like saying the press) who panned them wildly for months, not Italy or Italians. All the more so as they'd surprisingly won Sanremo thanks to televoting. Wouldn't be a bad idea to make all due distinctions.
@massimodepalma6557
