Nicely done Andy.👍
Another great episode Andy, Good to see Mrs Mac helping you out and telling how things should be done properly. Personally I would have liked to see some fibreglass insulation in the partition wall between the plaster board sheets. It help reduce sounds and also helps for warmth. Keep up the great work.

This is such a great series, Andy. I've been so inspired since discovering your channel a few months ago. I'm about to move into my first house and I've got a whole bunch of DIY projects I want to work on. I haven't really got any experience but starting to learn things as I go thanks to your channel. What will you work on when you have completed all of your projects in your home? Would you consider going into other people's homes and doing a series on helping other people with their DIY projects?

2:38 Those vents get brittle after a few years. Replace with metal type, or paint it with UV resistant paint for plastic.
It's so satisfying to see that plasterboard going up, a transformation and immediate impact, great support as always from Mrs Mac, she's a trooper ! Sorry if I missed it, but was there a reason why you had the boiler fitted there rather than in the rebuilt garage, just thinking easier to vent ?
@GosforthHandyman
Жыл бұрын
Yeah, unfortunately as the house had no central heating we needed the boiler fitted before the extension started. 👍
Was away on vacation and just catching up. Why did you chose to have drywall butt joints at the bottom and not mount panels sideways eliminating the butt? Always enjoy seeing your work Andy!
Silly question... from my ignorance and for my benefit...is there no need for insulation and vapour barrier, or os that only for wet rooms, showers and external walls?
Love your videos !!!! What kind of plasterboards do you use?
Building code is soooo different. Here we can have both switches and outlets in bathrooms, as long as they are at proper distance from showers and such. However water pipe joints in walls is a big nono. (Unless you have it in a water tight box and a pipe going out into a visible area at the bottom så that you notice when there's a leak.)

We _can_ have outlets in the bathroom in the UK too but the minimum clearance between the outlet position and a bath or shower, etc required by regulations means the room has to be quite large (for a bathroom).

Didn’t fancy a bit of insulation wool in the wall to reduce ‘sound effects’, even though it’s only a utility room next door?
@GosforthHandyman
Жыл бұрын
Really not needed as most sound will escape through the door anyway. 👍
@lotsofspoons

Plus you can play the wall like a drum while singing through the door! 😅
In regards to the hot feed for the basin could you not replace the 90 elbow for a tee then elbow further down the wall ?
@GosforthHandyman
Жыл бұрын
There was no way of backing out that pushfit elbow without cutting the pipe as it was tight to the gas pipe. Bit annoying but we worked around it so all OK.
@LTWCarpentry

@@GosforthHandyman ahh okay, makes sense 👍🏻
Its looking great. One question though, why did you choose to not put insulation in the stud walls? Id be paranoid about noise in a loo!!
@GosforthHandyman
Жыл бұрын
Cheers! The door would be the weak point here for sound, so insulation in the walls would do very little. Plasterboard is actually a very good sound insulator. 👍
On your hot pipe try removing that speedfit elbow next to the gas and replace it with a pulled copper bend and then solder in your tee next to the wall on the right. You'd have to measure it but I think you might just squeeze it in.

@@GosforthHandyman I did realise after commenting what a plonker 🤣 I'm enjoying the show though.
Hi Andy, any regs or concerns about boxing in the gas pipe/putting it behind a false wall? I may have a similar situation, although I have an outside alternative option too. Cheers!
@GosforthHandyman
Жыл бұрын
Not that I know of but best checking with a Gas Safe engineer to see how they prefer to route it. In this scenario it's pretty safe as it's unlikely anything would be attached to the wall (pictures etc.) at that height. 👍
To you, to me.
If I did a stud wall I am contemplating insulation for noise and heat. Just out of curiosity Is this something you have considered and why didn't you? (sure it's an obvious answer, cost/effort over gain). Something rarely seen in commercial work, but as a DIY project the time/cost might make it worth thinking about.
@GosforthHandyman
Жыл бұрын
It's just pointless in this scenario James. Sound would escape via the door and as there's no external walls heat insulation would probably result in the room being colder as it would reduce heat transfer from the utility (which is always warm). 👍
10:45 you've got the "water in" mark, like i asked in the last video (which is now lost in the mists of time and i can't find it again) is that just going to be for the cistern and, if so, how come you didn't run it in previously? thanks

@10:52 I take it that gas supply is propane? If not why use copper pipe for natural gas when black pipe is used. Also, soldering a gas pipe connection is a big no-no. That's against code here and will instantly fail any inspection. Wow!
@GosforthHandyman
Жыл бұрын
I'm not a gas engineer, but pretty sure soldered copper is the *only* option that meets regs over here. Never seen anything else (other than plastic supply in the street to the property). 👍
