FITTING MY PINTO ENGINE & TYPE 9 GEARBOX TO MY MK2 ESCORT!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Welcome back all,
If you've been keeping up to date with the Mk2 Escort project, you'll know that one of my last videos in 2023 was me finishing off painting the underside of my Mk2 Escort. Now that job is ticked off the list, it has allowed me to get my Pinto engine and Type 9 gearbox fitted to the classic ford!
In this video I also replace the rear main oil seal and spigot bearing. I also fit a RS clutch fork and new release bearing. Once the engine and gearbox are in the escort I then go on to modify and weld my gearbox mount to fit my application.
I feel the escort progress is now moving along at a steady pace and I hope to be fitting the suspension soon, along with the brake servo and running all the copper brake lines.

Don’t you apologise mate for your welding skills or anything else come to that matter.. you are doing great work and living life and when it’s done you get to drive it out your garage in the summer knowing you did this .. people will always find fault but ignore them.. keep up the great work and hard work you show us .. looking forward to more content and definitely seeing your car and van finished on the road 👍👍 well done 👍👍

Looking good mate For future reference don’t put grease on the release bearing Mitch ! It’s carbon and therefore kind of self lubricating. You don’t ever want any oils or greases spinning around in the bell housing as it can contaminate the clutch

Nice work as always, great to see your progress. Now a little constructive criticism on your welds. You need to turn the heat up when welding thicker steel. it appears you've used the same heat setting as the floor-pan with the wire speed turned up. Therefore the weld hasn't penetrated to a level i would like. But hopefully it'll hold for you. As you say you never know anything before you try it. I like you're not afraid to learn on the job. Nice work.

Well done Mitch, we all learn along the way, I'm 47 and still lean stuff when working on my escort. You have a methodical mind and are doing it all right. Would run the brake lines before you bolt too much on the engine so you have more room. Great video 👏

Love how honest it is and the fact your just working out of a standard garage with normal tools and making this progress I’m on the absolute edge of starting my own channel and just documenting what I get up to on my car and this has filled me with confidence 👌🏼 I’m also a very novice welder and well a novice at all things automotive really but I love learning and just giving stuff a go 👌🏼 (I’m actually a gardener) 😂

Hey Mitch I used to do these conversions back in the nineties bud, get your brakes conneceted to the master cylinder no servo required you just have to push a little harder, a set of twin fourtees will give you plenty of power if you don't want to go and see the harrisses. A lumenition ignition will deal with the spark come on sort it out!

Never lube up thrust bearing it will attract clutch dust and have reverse affects, you should of put some grease on that oil seal where it means the crank, bread method does work as does grease but u need a piece of bar ghe exact same size as ID OF BEARING works a treat and u don't risk damaging crank like u do the way u did it

Good work Mitch the only thing I'd say is that 2mm plate you used I don't think it was strong enough as for your welding turn the wire speed down a some bit and your amps you a bit

I disagree. (Welder) More Voltage and move Wand faster over intended joint. Pigeon shit is due to Stop/Start issue. Either too much distance between Wand and Joint or Earth failure. Symptoms of minimal Spatter and Penetration(Volt) to create large Weld Pool ponding. At the end of the day Welding is a Skill.........Don't get good if You don't try👍

Never heard of using wet bread , dry bread and a solid snug fitting drift works not a socket as it’s got a hole in the middle so no hydraulic pressure will be built up also the clutch arm is steel not Ali lol 😂

Hi Mitch, just wondering if you've checked clutch pedal/foot clearance with the auto tunnel in place? I'm about to cut out mine and weld in the same tunnel. I know it's been done a load of times before, but it looks a BIG tunnel! Thanks Huw

I like pantos but wat a 2.1 costs to do properly and they are also quite a heavy lump much rather go zetec on itb,s or bike carbs but it's all down to personal preference I guess ,Pintos are a lovely engine but you can get more bang 4 yer buck with a zetec enjoying yer build though dude done so many over the years good to c how others go about theres, pigeon shit!!!!!more like bear shit with diohrea!!!!!!
