Fitting Fiat Ducato Reversing Sensors on our Elddis Campervan

Installing a genuine Fiat approved aftermarket reversing sensor part number 0071803466-001 to our Fiat Ducato based Elddis CV20 Campervan to make it easier when reversing.
You can get the sensor kit from Fiat dealers and if you search for the part number 71803466 you can sometimes find them heavily discounted on-line.
We thought this would really help by keeping an 'eye' out at the rear of the van when reversing and it's in addition to a reversing camera for that extra security.
When working with electrics, please ensure you're confident in what you're doing and switch the power off before making any changes, make sure connections are secure and appropriate size fuses or breakers are used to protect your van and equipment. If in doubt, get a competent electrician or auto electrician to assist.
If you decide to do this yourself, this video is just a guide on how I have gone about it to suit my specific purposes and may not be the best way of going about it. Any mods you undertake you need to personally assess the risk before going ahead and whether it's needed or right for you.

    Hi David, your video has proved helpful, I've just about finished fitting the kit you used to our 2021 Pilote Ducato van conversion. The part number was on the box but there is no reference to it specifically being produced by Fiat. It had a comprehensive set of parts like yours so assume it's ok. As you identified, the reversing light connection wire is a green/grey wire and not as stated in the instructions. Because of the rear bed layout and the cabinetry in the Pilote I found it easier to remove the driver’s side rear lamp assembly to access the wiring via the plug. There are two fixings like a threaded box spanner to remove. They can be undone by hand if the lamp assembly gently pushed against the body compressing foam rubber seals. If not, a 17mm socket will be required. All that remains to be done is to fine tune the sensitivity/offset and find a location for the buzzer towards the front and get the wire to it. Did you use the 5 or 10 degree sloping angle rings for the sensors or just fit them flat ?

    Thanks for the comment, it was the recommended aftermarket one by Fiat at the time so I got that to avoid any warranty issues with it being connected into the Fiat electrics. I used the 5 degree angle if I remember right after doing some testing but then reading somewhere that was the right one (the smaller angle). Seems to work pretty well. Hope that makes sense, all the best, David 👍

    David, great video. Where did you mount the buzzer? Did you use the extension lead? Thanks.

    Hi Roland - I’ve stuck it to the side of the battery temporarily to see what the sound level was like and it’s ok - I did that without the extension but may move it as still working out of positioned best (it’s under the bench essentially but pointing forward) - all the best, David 👍

    Hi David, great video it prompted me to buy the kit that you describe which I received the kit a couple of days ago. The kit includes 3 sizes of offset shims. which size did you use?

  • @LeisureBit

    @LeisureBit

    Thank you - do you mean the offset washer type things (assume so) - I think it said in the booklet which one to use as I had the same wonder on which to use - I can’t remember for sure which one it was but think it was the middle one - I’m pretty sure there was a table somewhere which had Ducato and which one for that (as it’s universal for cars as well and had the models on) - sorry that’s not much help!

    Great video….I am just completely astounded that these vans do not come with this feature as standard! Very poor from fiat! Even tiny cars get this as standard these days!

    Hi David been watching all your content and two questions can you swap out reg original leisure battery for a lithium with no issues or do you need to replace stuff like you did and secondly did you do any more insulation or just the back doors cheers Steve

  • @LeisureBit

    @LeisureBit

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Steve, ref Lithium - it depends, if your setup has compatible charger etc then you can normally just reconfigure it and use that - if it’s not then it’s best to swap out for the right things - do you have the same type of van or a different one? On the second one - I have more work to do on the insulation which I will be doing in early autumn (if not before) as didn’t get around to the side door but also want to do the rear pillars and improve it where I can. Hope that helps All the best, David 👍

    Hi David. Just watched your video again fitting rear parking sensors. I can't seem to find anywhere that sells them at the bargain price that you got them for. Whereabouts did you get yours? Thanks, Mel.

    Hi Mel, I picked them up on eBay - they appear periodically at a good price - there are similar non-Fiat approved ones available if you get stuck. Will have a look and see if I can spot any but I noticed they seem to be a few weeks between the sensibly priced ones and he full price ones. All the best, David 👍
