In my 40’s and 50’s I was losing bone density. I started working out (at first with a trainer). He showed me proper form, various machines and lifting weights. Stopped my bone loss in its tracks! Yes! I’m a big believer in working out. I’m glad you found a more affordable option. My monthly fee is $25. And you are right, it’s more important than ever to stay fit as we get older.

Good idea to promote fitness & a healthy lifestyle. I’ve always been very active, working out, rode bicycles, I take supplements & make my own energy drinks. I stopped caffeine a few years ago , maybe once a week I’ll have a small decaf coffee.. but I’m stopping that as well. I sleep great with no coffee intake, even decaf keeps me awake. I rarely eat processed foods, & only drink water. I will have the very occas glass of wine. I retired 1 week ago and I feel great!

My Medicare Advantage Plan that I picked up Feb. 1 offers a free gym membership, so I’m enjoying the Genesis Club at Brownwood. I like the resistance training machines there, and I go three times a week. I also ride my bike pretty much every day for my cardio workout. I had planned to transfer my membership from up north to a Planet Fitness here, but the closest one is in Leesburg. I really liked Planet Fitness because they had everything, and you never had to wait for the equipment since they had multiple pieces. And the price was right - $10.00 per month per person. I currently do 30 minutes on a recumbent indoor bike, 30 on the elliptical, and walk a mile on an indoor track. during the cold months. (Indiana) I also do weight machines 3 days a week. When it is warmer here I do 10-20miles on a local bike trail, walk 3 miles a day, and weights at my club 3 days a week. By the way, l my Dad died at 96 and every day until about two days before he died he worked out for 2 hours on a multi station home gym.@@TheVillagesChief

Going to be here a long while & looking at Genesis vs Colony. I have to rule out Colony because I cannot do 2 basic things: -- Squats and bench press. I realize they have a Smith machine for Squats and somewhat comparable alternatives for flat bench, but really want free weights. Do you know if any of the other facilities have a squat rack and barbell bench press? Kind of silly, they have benches in the facility but don't have a barbell rack. What I do like -- The pricing alternatives permit someone like me to pay for what I'm going to use (extended length stays).

@mikescaruana

Dang, I got that completely wrong. While PF might offer a few slight advantages over the rec centers here, their corporate policy is no squat racks & Olympic bar bells / flat bench rack / etc... I'm also not impressed with a gym (from what I've read) serving pizza and tootsie rolls. Genesis it is (at least for me). They have a good mix of what I desire without having to go to a place with all gym rats. Used the one in Brownwood today & signed up. For most others, it seems the rec centers here will suffice, and a great deal with flexibility in pricing for usage as well.

We don’t have HOA’s here in the villages, we have an amenity fee that covers golfing at the executive golf courses, and swimming pools, and archery, stuff like that outdoor gyms are free but the fit club is a membership so even though we don’t have an HOA, we have a CDD and an amenity fee so in that regard yes you are correct but the villages fitclub gym is pretty cheap in my opinion. Honestly for the amenity fee that I pay of $193 a month I think I get a lot for that so I really don’t mind paying that plus the FitClub membership, there are some HOA’s in Florida that are way more than that and you get far less. Aren't there any Planet Fitness, Anytime Fitness, Workout Anytime, or other 24/7 super affordable gyms nearby?

Yeah, I think I saw a 24 hour fitness out in town

Do the centers have machines or free weights or both?
@TheVillagesChief
Жыл бұрын
Both, but the free weights are mainly dumbbells. I use the smith machine there a lot for bench pressing.
The whole thing about people thinking they're going to save by moving to one of these tax friendly states, most don't consider all the expenses involved in the move. Immediately for me, I belong to L.A. finesse for $36 a year(member since 1989) and Jersey strong for $22 a month. Then, the bond issues, monthly maintenance, additional electricity for a.c., the cost of fixing up your old home for the sale, the new home when you move in. I don't see much savings at all? Anyway, glad yo have. V.a. center close by and thx for your service.

Yeah I agree, it’s a little more pricey in some aspects for sure. Thanks for watching!

I made a short a while back kzread.infoG7EOhkIUJhU?si=t9Xi9Tc67Y7mbBA9 because I didn’t want to do a full one inside the gym while people were working out just for privacy reasons but hopefully this short helps a little bit.

Would you mind giving a range of HOA fees?
@TheVillagesChief
Жыл бұрын
We don't have an HOA here in The Villages (except for a very limited old neighborhoods from what I understand) but we do have an amenity fee of approx $200 a month depending when you purchased your home which is mainly for access to the recreational stuff, pools, activities, etc. Some homes come with a "Bond", mostly the newer homes, which can be 20K plus or minus, but its typically treated like a mortgage paid off over many years, or you can pay it off lump sum, but most people pay it off over years, or transfer the bond balance to the new owner if you sell. There is also a CDD fee which varies by area but you pay that like a/ tax bill every year and varies by location. So I think I have this right, The Bond pays for the infrastructure, the CDD pays for the maintenance and upkeep of common areas. The only monthly fee is your amenity fee (and of course your utilities and stuff like that). I plan on doing a budget video to discuss this stuff in layman's terms, cause it's all pretty confusing to be honest.

@@TheVillagesChief thank you! We live in Melbourne and we have HOA fees of $390 yearly. We checked into the Villages a few times, starting back when the Grandpa started it. We got CD’s back then and it really was just a small development! We often wonder if we wouldn’t be better suited to that area. Looking forward to your videos!

@@TheVillagesChief I have so many of similar types of supplements. This was a gentle reminder, words of wisdom, to be more regimented about taking them. 😊
You know supplements are BS right? The best thing you can do out of that scene is lose the doughnut. You're a Navy Vet right? What do you need a gym for? You know how to PT.
