Fishing using Zerek Fry and Shimano Calcutta Conquest DC 201HG at Seri Bayu Batangsi Fishing Pond

Today - a good size barramundi on a small lure 🤙
.
Fishing situation - Not much feeding frenzy this morning maybe due to colder water temperature so decided to go with a sinking minnow with white colour, no sound and slow jerk and retrieve method to trigger the fish to come and investigate and take the lure without much chasing effort needed 🤓
.
Rod: 8-16lb / 7-21gm / Action - Regular Fast / Power - Medium
Reel: 6.2:1
PE Line: 15lb
Leader: 30lb
Lure: Sinking minnow / 5gm / 0.5-1.5m
Hook: BKK Size12 4x

Great catch! Interesting to see that the 200DC size can cast down to 5g? What casting distance do you reckon you achieved? And what size braid did you use.

Newbie question , What would be a good reel and rod for big pike. I really like this reel, but i dont have any experience with reels yet. Just dead bait fishing with baitrunner reels.

In my personal opinion, if I’d had to compare, I guess in Malaysia, the equivalent freshwater fish type would be Toman Fish as its aggressiveness would somewhat be similar style with the pike fish. I’d suggest getting a medium action & moderate power rod if you’re fishing at a location with less structures and a fast action & moderate to hard rod if you’re fishing at a location with a lot of structures as you will need this type of rod to pull the fish from embedding themselves in the broken branches or hidden underwater structures, as for reels, getting a reel with a max drag capability of 5-7kg would be more than sufficient at this point in time (do experiment this yourself), hope this helps buddy 🙂

What a bad angler you are! You don’t need a plainer to hold a vis and you also don’t have to damage the vis that much to gad the hooks out. Really really bad man. Just do al of that with you’re hands.
